After Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) proclaims that he is Batman, he is put into a SWAT vehicle. Then a fiery obstruction forces Dent's truck to make an unexpected detour into a tunnel (the lower 5th). There, they encounter a garbage truck that quickly rams the SWAT truck's police escort. Joker (Heath Ledger) soon appears in a semi-truck, with a rocket launcher. When all seems to be lost, Batman (Christian Bale) arrives in his Tumbler. To help out he chooses to take out the garbage truck by ramming it. That fantastic effect was made possible by the miniatures created by
New Deal Studios. They designed, fabricated, and photographed a 1:3 scale model of Lower Wacker Drive, the Batmobile, and the garbage truck.
They also worked on Nolan's last Batman film,
The Dark Knight Rises. As you can see in the first set of images below, they created the miniature planes from Bane's (Tom Hardy) prologue, and after Bane breaks Batman's back, Bane sets off an explosion revealing that his lair sits below Fox's applied sciences division, where he keeps the other Tumblers. That was done with the help of miniatures.
The Dark Knight Rises was directed by Christopher Nolan, from a screenplay written by Christopher and Jonathan Nolan. The cast included: Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John "Robin" Blake and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate/Talia al Ghul. The film is now available on DVD and Blu-ray!
