It's Always Sunny in... GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY? Glenn Howerton Auditioned For Star-Lord

Glenn Howerton, who plays narcissistic Dennis Reynolds, on FXX's It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, revealed that he auditioned for the lead in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy.

Zap2It is reporting, that comedic actor, Glenn Howerton, who is best known as Dennis Reynolds, auditioned for Superman Returns, and more recently, Guardians of the Galaxy. You know him as a co-owner of Paddy's Pub, who suffers from an exaggerated sense of self-worth, but you almost came to know him as Peter Quill, Star-Lord!

"I think ten years ago I auditioned for the Superman reboot," Glenn says of 2006's "Superman Returns." "I did audition recently for 'Guardians of the Galaxy', to play the role Chris Pratt is playing. And I know the director of that movie is supposedly a big 'Sunny' fan, which is cool."

How far along was he in the process? Don't know. We do know Marvel was certainly looking at actors from other comedy television series, like Chris Pratt from Parks and Recreation, the actor that actually landed the role. I'm not gonna focus on the Superman Returns part of the info, as we don't know which role he was up for. Glenn did mention another comic book role he'd like in the future if it were to become available, "I think playing something like The Riddler would definitely feel like it was in my wheelhouse."

Marvel Studios presents Guardians of the Galaxy — A big space epic featuring an unlikely cast of Marvel characters, including Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Groot and Rocket Raccoon, who must team up in order to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions. Starring Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana and directed by James Gunn from a screenplay by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy is based on the Marvel comic book series Guardians of the Galaxy, first published in 1969 and relaunched in 2008. Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures will distribute Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1, 2014.

Okay, Glenn would have been AWESOME.
He's handsome and very funny.

Still I'm not upset at who they chose.

Pratt is incredible...but Glenn needs to crossover into film real soon.

What a shame. Chris is a solid choice, but Glenn would have been perfect. Been a Sunny fan since the very first episode aired, and I'd love to see him get more work -- especially in the MCU.

I think he's too common looking. But maybe could have pulled it off if he added more weight.

Damn I can't wait for this movie. And wish they would make a console game for GotG

"I AM A GOLDEN GOD!!" Lol
Fricking love Sunny, and I don't think he'd make a bad Riddler at all, he definitely pulls off the narcissist part. But it's not gonna happen though...

"...you know, because of the implication"

He would've been great, I think. And Margaret McPoyle for Gamora:

It's really cool to hear about how diverse a pool Marvel is choosing from. Much like artists/art on their books, they can do some really out-of-left-field picks, which is awesome.

Hopefully some of the people you've heard about are rotated back in.

Back during all the casting speculations, I actually posted that he should be cast as Star-Lord...amazing that he actually auditioned! He locked into place in my mind while I was shouting for Devito to voice Rocket (I wonder if Danny auditioned, too?).

And I quote (myself):

"I said this before in another thread after a drunken viewing of Always Sunny reruns, and I stand by it moderately sober: Danny Devito for Rocket's voice. Hell, I also stand by a more left-field Sunny cast member for Star-Lord: Glenn Howerton. He might need to hit the gym a bit, but I think he's ready for a lead role and this one feels right.

Now, back to drinking to see if I can squeeze Rafi from The League into this movie somewhere..."

So close. And I still want to see Rafi show up.
