Watch the original teaser trailer for The Empire Strikes Back, which is notable for featuring solely concept art by Ralph McQuarrie but no film footage. Among the McQuarrie paintings seen are the Rebel hangar on Hoth, Luke on a tauntaun, Darth Vader aboard a Star Destroyer, Cloud City, an Imperial probe droid, and Luke's final duel with Darth Vader.

Return of the Jedi trailer next, then Episode VII. Mark Hamill already filmed it supposedly.

Revenge of Sith was good IMO. But it just couldn't make up for the two other movies that shall not be named.

Looks well dated! - hate that awful blinds-shuttering fx that pervaded the whole of the trailer.
Hope Ralph McQuarrie got royalties for the full extent of that trailer seeing as though the whole thing was just slide-showing his concept art!.

@Nomis As a kid I HATED Empire Strikes Back. Now it's my favorite Star Wars movie. I agree that over time Revenge of the Sith will be better received among fans. Can't speak for the other two movies though.

I think I have got it, they'll release the original trailer for Return of The Jedi then a final trailer announcement of the original versions of the films on Blu-ray.

To me, it seems the most likely thing to come out of the postings of the original trailers as they were originally released.

If they were going to do a countdown for a teaser trailer for episode 7, they would have started (sadly) with TPM I would have thought.

@Nomis I wouldn't say I almost cried, but it was hard to watch. I didn't feel bad for Anakin, but I felt bad for Obi Wan.

"That kind of collected shocked/excitement over a movie "twist" could NEVER happen today."

I think that's why Disney is so close chested about the Episode 7 movie now. I think when things are revealed, they don't want the audiences reaction to be "I read that online" or "I already guessed that".

When a twist is revealed and the audience is genuinely shocked about it, the movie is goes up another level.

@Gusto,Nomis,Spidey

I also saw Rocky in a theater in 76 but I was only 9. I also saw Empire in 1980 but I don't remember the audience being divided at the end.Maybe it had something to do with the Minneapolis crowd I saw it with.People just don't get so upset about things up there.

I do remember Empire getting best Star Wars movie status when it was rereleased in November 1982 as a lead in to Jedi the next year.I think back in 80 a lot of folks were expecting a Star Wars film with the same upbeat tone and happy ending as the original. By 82 people could just accept the film on its own merit.

They re-released the trailer for the original Star Wars exactly one week ago, and The Empire Strikes Back today, so logic would dictate that the trailer for Return of the Jedi should come next Wednesday. Interestingly enough, exactly two weeks from today is the one-year anniversary of the announcement of Star Wars: Episode VII as well as the sale of Lucasfilm to Disney. J. J. Abrams has a history of shooting teaser trailers for his films before he begins principle production in earnest; the same occurred with Cloverfield and Super 8. I'd say there's actually a very good possibility that we'll get the first teaser for Episode VII in two weeks time, potentially with a subtitle or release date.

Just re-release the original cuts cleaned up for blu-ray no George Lucas mucking around with his fat [frick]ing fingers. It's time to face facts, Lucas gets too much credit for Star Wars.

Best movie of the series. Sorry @Nomis, I like Sith, but it doesn't beat the original Star Wars. However an argument could be made that it's better than Jedi...

I am a middle period fan; first saw Star Wars on a rented VHS tape in about 1994. Empire made me feel a bit depressed the first time, while Jedi gave me a giddy high. But now I definitely consider Empire the best SW film.

Revenge of the Sith is very effective. I got a heck of a thrill out of it, no denying that. The ominous suspense is super intense.

It will be great to get a teaser for VII soon here, if that does indeed happen. It makes perfect sense to have started at VI, for obvious reasons. But still, I remember the first teaser for TPM, with what we now know is a Gungan riding out of the mists...it seemed promising at that point, LOL.
