Beetlejuice 2, is finally looking like a reality as the long-gestating project has started to gain some traction. Tim Burton is said to be in talks to direct, and Michael Keaton is also expected to return as the Ghost with the Most. After that, most want to know if any of the original cast will return for the sequel. Seeing what happened to Lydia Deetz, the teenaged-goth played by Winona Ryder in the 1988 classic, seems like a shrewd angle, but there has been no word on that yet. And if Lydia is included in the sequel, would Winona Ryder be asked back? Ryder is no longer a household name, but has tried to make a recent comeback with roles in J.J. Abrams'
Star Trek (Spock's mom) and
The Private Lives of Pippa Lee. If Burton wants to go in a different direction with Lydia, pop-sensation, Katy Perry, is interrested.
Ahead of her Hollywood Bowl show in Los Angeles last night (Oct. 23), the "Roar" singer hosted a Q&A session and acoustic mini-concert. One fan asked what movies she'd like to star in, Perry replied that -- should it happen -- she'd love to join up with Tim Burton for a "Beetlejuice" sequel in the role of Lydia. As reported this week, Burton is juggling the idea of returning to his Michael Keaton-starring comedy.
