In 2004, Henry Cavill was cast by McG ("Charlie's Angels") to play Superman/Clark Kent in his unproduced Superman film, Superman: Flyby. A film that was written by J.J. Abrams ("Star Trek Into Darkness") and would've also starred Robert Downey Jr. as Lex Luthor. This took place two years before Bryan Singer's Superman Returns. What killed McG's Superman: Flyby? McG would later reveal that his fear of flying grounded the production. Warner Bros. wanted the film to shoot in Australia for cost-savings, while McG wanted it to be shot entirely in North America. Which of course would've kept him traveling on a plane. Don't feel too bad for Cavill, it only took him a decade but he finally suited up as Superman for Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, and will reprise the role for Batman Vs. Superman.
STORY: Young PRINCE KAL-EL is rocketed to Earth in an effort for Jor-El to allow Kal-El to fufill the prophecy of being the chosen Kryptonian to end a century old Civil War.

On Earth Kal-El is found by the KENTS a kindly couple who's hopes were to be parents. After surviving the years Kal-El now Clark Kent's life is shown through a series of scenes showcasing his life before Superman which leads right up to the moment he meets Lois Lane at a Metropolis College. All the while the young TY-ZOR Cousin to Clark Kent goes from Planet to Planet in search of his Cousin in hopes of killing him and crushing the war. When he arrives to Earth he discovers his Cousin has become SUPERMAN Earth's greatest protector and the two engage in a battle for the Earth it self. - CBM's Robert Garlen

It looks like they kept some things for Superman Returns. Superman: The Movie still remains my favorite Superman film. Hopefully DC can tighty up with the new movies.

And people complain about Man of Steel. This shit would probably have killed both MCU (RDJ as Luthor) and Superman.

I read the script... It was actually pretty good. Although it totally re-imagined Superman's mythos, I was ok with that.

You know as a concept...it doesn't sound all that bad.

I don't like McG as a director, he's a bit derivative and pedestrian when it comes to the art/craft, but the story and concept is sort of interesting and of course reminiscent of what later became Man of Steel.

Is the first concept art pic supposed to have the reversed House of El crest on his outfit?

This would have meant no Iron Man...

Superman: Flyby, kinda ironic seeing as McG is a p**** who's scared to fly. Seriously? Not trying to be too harsh but dude they woulda paid you well for this movie. Take some sleeping pills before the flight and grow up...

I love seeing stuff from this project. I think that with some reworking, that 1st JJ Abrams draft could have been the ultimate crowd-pleasing Superman flick. Sigh.

Singer filmed some of the best action scenes in Superman Returns.
The plane rescue
The bullet to the eye
Saving Metropolis and
The boat rescue

Too bad the rest of the film couldn't live up to it.

Man this sounds just bad. No other word then bad really says how bad it sounds. Also in the last picture is the city on a mountain or just the view that makes it look like that?

That concept art is gorgeous. I love the Daily Planet and those Krypton designs.

Maybe one day we'll get a perfect Superman movie.
