In 2004, Henry Cavill was cast by McG ("Charlie's Angels") to play Superman/Clark Kent in his unproduced Superman film,
Superman: Flyby. A film that was written by J.J. Abrams ("Star Trek Into Darkness") and would've also starred Robert Downey Jr. as Lex Luthor. This took place two years before Bryan Singer's
Superman Returns. What killed McG's
Superman: Flyby? McG would later reveal that his fear of flying grounded the production. Warner Bros. wanted the film to shoot in Australia for cost-savings, while McG wanted it to be shot entirely in North America. Which of course would've kept him traveling on a plane. Don't feel too bad for Cavill, it only took him a decade but he finally suited up as Superman for Zack Snyder's
Man of Steel, and will reprise the role for
Batman Vs. Superman.
