Newcomer Maisie Richardson-Sellers Up For STAR WARS VII Role?

In the past, there's been talk of J.J. Abrams looking to fill his Star Wars: Episode VII cast with newcomers, and it looks like he might have found his first one, Maisie Richardson-Sellers.

Sources for The Hollywood Reporter have a juicy new Star Wars VII casting rumor to whet your whistle:
"Speculation is swirling like the mists of Dagobah around newcomer Maisie Richardson-Sellers. Several sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that she is in line to nab an undisclosed and possibly major role in the high-profile Disney/Lucasfilm production, which is in the middle of an extended casting search in London in advance of a May production start date." - Hollywood Reporter

Little is known about Maisie Richarsdon-Sellers. She's an Oxford-educated actress with no movie credits. The British actress has performed in several plays, For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide, Mephisto and There Will Be Red. She' was in the short film Music Wherever She Goes, which you can check out in the video below.

While this info is exciting The Hollywood Reporter cautioned, "two sources say Richardson-Sellers has not been offered a role." And which role is she possibly up for? Well, there's been talk of "a young black or mixed-race woman who may be a descendent of Jedi Knight Ben Kenobi." Deadline chimed in, "We hear it’s not a lead, but the producers have their eye on Maisie Richardson-Sellers."

Damn. They were serious about the "unknowns" in this movie.

@RexDartEskimoSpy Now that's not true at all....she could be Mace Windu's descendant too...

I guess this is cool but don't know who she is?

Seems cool. I'd love to have someone like her in the film.

I do think that the whole "descendant of Obi-Wan" angle sounds like a horrible, unimaginative idea, exactly the sort of thing that I hope Episode VII avoids. Sure, it's theoretically plausible, but really? Come on, give us something better than that.

Please stop eroding the mystique of established characters.

She's good looking. Hey, many filmss have made unknowns VERY known so I'm all for it

The only time her name is spelled right is in the quote, took me a whole 3 minutes to figure out why I couldn't pull her up on IMDB. Come on, now!
DrBrooklyn
DrBrooklyn - 4/9/2014, 10:19 PM
Then IMDB has her name wrong as well. They have "Richardson-Sellers" not "Richarsdon-Sellers"

I wouldn't care much about the race of Obi-Wan's descendant, but Obi-Wan's descendant should not exist. Dude was true to the Jedi Way of his time.

Come on guys, it was rumored months ago that a part they were casting was for Obi-Wan's gran-daughter which called for a Black or "Ethnic Woman". I'm going to laugh my ass off if that turns out to be true. From the looks of it the force is strong with that rumor materializing.

Movies need some new faces instead of the same recycled actors for everything

Just think Channing Tatum as a Jedi... I just threw up in my mouth a little

hope she's got great acting chops. but look wise, she should be the NEW Storm if they EVER reboot the x-men franchise.

So Obi had 'Galaxy Fever'?
Spiderfan2226
Spiderfan2226 - 4/10/2014, 7:02 AM
ugh I really hope Obi-won doesn't have a daughter. That's against the Jedi Code and he was the quintessential Jedi, and a stickler for the code. It just seems so out of character for him. I know he's still a man, so that sort of thing can happen (ala Eddard Stark), but if you have to give Kenobi offspring I at least hope that it being a struggle for him and being against his code is a plot line involved (again, ala Stark). That's my biggest fear in this whole series: the expanded universe's New Republic (from the point episode 6 ends) really sucks. they Illogically bring people back from the dead just because they were awesome (Boba Fett, Darth Maul) and contradict beloved character's personalities (Luke turning to the dark side temperarily.)
CaptainPresley
CaptainPresley - 4/10/2014, 8:24 AM
I don't think Mark, Harrison and Carrie had much acting work behind them before "Star Wars". They were all considered "unknowns".
ndwwrestler2
ndwwrestler2 - 4/10/2014, 8:33 AM
@CaptainPresley Mark Hamill had a lot of TV work done before Star Wars. Carrie Fisher was in one short, and two movies that I don't think anyone has ever heard of. Ford had a good bit of TV work and starred in Lucas's first hit "American Graffiti".

But you're right, they were all considered unknowns. But *this* chick is more "unknown" than they were. Her only credit (if IMDB is to be believed), is the 5 minute video above.

@MrBlackJack Yep. That was after the first Star Wars movie.
