Another New Still From THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES

The last image from Peter Jackson's final installment in his The Hobbit trilogy featured Bard "the Bowman" (Luke Evans) and Gandalf (Ian McKellen), and this new one once again spotlights the Grey Pilgrim; this time in conversation with Thranduil (Lee Pace).

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town. Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.

There are also some quotes from screenwriter/producer Philippa Boyens at the link below. Starring Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving and Orlando Bloom, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is set to be released on December 17th.

I'm really bitter about these movies. They made so many efforts to tie these films in with the LOTR film trilogy but they didn't commit to making them film cohesive as far as styles go. The LOTR trilogy was magnificent but the Hobbit movies are just so cartoony and bloated.

Is Gandalf surrounded by elves or women? I can't tell the difference.

I 100% see where you're coming from. My y biggest beef with these films is that the prequels look more modern ala Stars Wars. However, that's where it ends. If you've read the books you would know that The Hobbit is more colorful in tone than LOTR.

I'm just grateful that they made the effort to tie the filmstogether AND we got three more films from an incredible franchise that, honestly, I'm still not ready to see end.

I'm glad there are 3 films, I loved the adventure and the wait for each film back when the first 3 came out, 1 hobbit film wouldn't of been enough for me, two I could of been happy with and three I'll just accept just because..

Who else wishes they would make another game in the style of War in the North. That game was so killer but it was so short!

Lord of the Rings trilogy = great. Hobbit trilogy = not so great.

Three ca 400 pages books into three movies. One 300 pages book (for children) into three movies. =|

Although, I will still see the last film, ever, of the beautiful Middle-earth. :)

And looking forward to the two Tolkien movies in the making.

Every time a Hobbit article comes out, people complain about how it's 3 movies. Honestly, that's not even close to being the worst part of this trilogy (though it doesn't help). I'll never be able to get past the fact that these movies are titled "The Hobbit", and yet Bilbo isn't even treated like the main character. The story isn't even about him anymore. He's just in the background, watching all these BIG and EPIC things occur so it can come full circle with the LotR movies. It's not just a difference from the books, it's just really terrible filmmaking. But whatever, these movies rake in the money so obviously people don't let things like that bother them.

Unfortunately, GotG won't beat Transformers (at the box office at least). I would like for it to, but Bay has a mindless following who will spend their money on anything with his name attached. Example: TMNT

I'll have my wife and 3 kids at GotG on opening night. The Bay-flock can have their giant robot porn and bastardized young-adult turtles.

lord of the rings is the best out of the two trilogies but saying that at least the hobbit movies are getting better with each movie.

I'm still going to buy the extended editions for this trilogy on blu ray. Saying that these films are "terrible" really is a stretch. The film does do some things right from the book and the appendices. Films do change a lot from the books they are based on. Game of Thrones the tv show is beginning to change and stray away from the books its based on.

The only problems i have with The Hobbit is, i'm not a fan of the love triangle between Tauriel, Legolas and Thorin's nephew. Way too much cgi and not enough practical effects. Some parts in the film drag for too long but i'm cool with it.

So.. I'm guessing Gandalf escapes that fortress somehow. My theory: Legolas rescues him while chasing that orc dude

In my opinion, there was no way this trilogy would've topped the LOTR trilogy or come close anyway. It was way too epic. I didn't care for the first one too much, and the only part I liked about the 2nd one was Smaug. AND THAT WAS AT THE END!!!! Hopefully this one is really good though.

@HAILHYRDA
i also agree. just look at the scene in the first Hobbit where they all get crushed by the bridge in the goblins cave, in the LOTR if something like that happened someone would have died
