UPDATE: Charlie Hunnam In Final Negotiations To Play Guy Ritchie's KING ARTHUR
According to Deadline, Guy Ritchie and Warner Bros. want Pacific Rim star Charlie Hunnam for the lead in Knights Of The Roundtable: King Arthur. Plus, Elizabeth Olsen is also said to be in line for the female lead.
Deadline report that the Son of Anarchy himself, Charlie Hunnam, has been lined up to star as the good King Arthur Pendragon in Guy Ritchie's take on the legendary tale, which is now officially titled Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur. Apparently Hunnam is now in final negotiations, and a deal looks like a sure thing. The project also has CBM fave and Hunnam's Pacific Rim costar Idris Elba on board, and although the Thor: The Dark World actor was originally said to be playing a character called Bedivere, Deadline reckon it'll actually be Merlin the Wizard! The site also confirm that WB are planning a six film saga. There have been various movies, comics and tv shows based around Arthurian legend over the years, including the underrated Camelot and the mediocre Disney produced flick with Clive Owen in the title role. The most successful take was arguably John Boorman's Excalibur back in 1981. Akiva Goldsman and Tory Tunnell will produce, Joby Harold (Awake, Edge Of Tomorrow) is on script duty. The movie is set for a July 22, 2016 release.
UPDATE: According to Variety, Elizabeth Olsen is also in negotiations for the female lead (presumably Guinevere). They also mention that both Henry Cavill and Jai Courtney read for the Arthur role.
