DREDD Sequel Might Adapt The "Origins" Storyline

Some reports on what actor Karl Urban had to say at Chicago Comic Con assumed he was talking about a Dredd prequel, but he more than likely meant that the plan was to adapt the "Origins" arc from 2000 AD which sees ol' stoney face brave the Cursed Earth in search of Judge Fargo.

Although pete Travis' Dredd failed to set the box office alight even after a positive reaction from fans and critics, good Blu-ray/DVD sales means that there has been some early buzz on a sequel. It's far from a sure thing, but for the first time we do have some indication as to which comic storyline the movie could follow. Jake from Shallow Graves caught up with the man under the iconic helmet (Star Trek Into Darkness actor Karl Urban) at Chicago Comic Con, and managed to get a few details from the self professed fanboy. Here's an excerpt from his report.

I had to ask, “Is there a possibility of maybe getting to see the dark judges in Dredd 2 or beyond?” He stopped what he was doing, and it was evident I struck the geek mark because his eyes lit up and he smiled as he answered, “Why yes, there is a definite possibility. But, it is more likely that we will do the origins story with Dredd trekking through the cursed earth to find the first Chief Judge Fargo.”

Although this arc does feature flashbacks, Urban doesn't necessarily mean any follow up to Dredd would be a prequel. "Origins" sees Judge Dredd and a team travel into the hostile Cursed Earth in search of Fargo; the first Chief Judge and the man from whom Dredd is actually cloned. The character appeared in the 1995 Sylvester Stallone flick, and was played by Max von Sydow. "Origins" is the longest running storyline in 2000 AD and is regarded as one of the best, so this should make fans very happy indeed.

Why? We have posted numerous "CBM 101"s on the correct way to put an article together, and many other contributors follow those instructions and have their stuff mained and stay on main. There is absolutely no excuse any more.

Don't give a damn what anyone thinks/writes. We know we do our jobs properly and are fair about it too. We have become more strict on lazy, inept or just plain bad user contributions recently because as I said, there is just no excuse any more..it's hardly rocket science. I beef up plenty of articles that have potential and actually very rarely outright replace any. In this case the info was inaccurate because the user took the story from a second hand source who also misinterpreted what Urban said, and would have had to be completely rewritten anyway. And it was just far too short for what I'd consider to be some pretty good news for Dredd fans.

the user was notified and told the reasons why it was replaced, and if he has a problem with it he can take it up with us privately In the meantime you guys get the correct info in a more detailed article. Everything is awesome as the little lego dude says.

I know almost nothing about Judge Dredd. I saw the Stallone flick, it was kinda fun. But I heard it was one of the worst CBM adaptations ever. Then I saw Dredd. Wow, it was [frick]ing awesome. I needs a sequel, and I needs it now!

Urban is Dredd like RDJ is Iron Man and Chris Evans is Cap. He gets the character and loves him. He's a boss and this needs I be made. Love Judge Dredf's mythology and history. Get very little notoriety. Just as coll as some Marvel as DC characters. Matter of fact he is college than some

I barely made it through Dredd. I don't understand why some loved it so much. The action was very redundant, Dredd going back and forth from using a regular voice to a "tough" voice. He's not Batman where he needs to hide his real voice and identity. Not sure why they would spend the money to make a sequel for a film that flopped in the theater. For the sake of some fans that liked it? That's not smart business.
