Elizabeth Banks Wanted To Play 'Gamora' In GOTG; Would She Be Up For Another Marvel Role?

While speaking to MTV, Banks (The Hunger Games movies) revealed that she approached her Slither director James Gunn and asked if she could play Gamora in Guardians Of The Galaxy. Obviously that didn't happen, but could a different Marvel role be in her future?

We could have had a very different take on Gamora in Guardians Of The Galaxy! While doing press at TIFF for her new movie Love And Mercy, Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games, The LEGO Movie) revealed that she approached her friend and Slither director James Gunn about the role. Apparently Gunn gave it some consideration, but ultimately decided to go a "different direction" and cast Zoë Saldana instead. “I wanted to play Gamora,” Banks admitted to MTV's Josh Hotowitz, “and then he didn’t want to cast me. And I totally get it, because Zoë [Saldana] is great!” Despite missing out on that role, Banks is a big fan of the movie and is full of praise for Gunn and his cast -- particularly Chris Pratt whom she dubs "the new Harrison Ford". But what about the planned GOTG sequel or a different Marvel movie altogether? "I would just want to do the Groot,” she replied when quizzed about it. We'll assume she means the dance! What do you guys think? Can you see Banks as any specific Marvel superheroine? I think she'd make a great Ms./Captain Marvel myself. The video interview is at the link below if you're American.

I could see her as Betty Ross or maybe She-Hulk if they ever go that route....

The actress is a part of a successful film franchise which are The Hunger Games films.

Cosmo.

Called it.

And no feminists, I'm not calling her a dog.

@CerealKiller: I completely agree, Gamora was just kind of...there. She wasn't cool, she wasn't funny, she didn't really contribute to the plot. I hope they bring the level of characterization they brought to Drax, Rocket and yes, a talking tree monster, to Gamora in the next movie.

In regard to Elizabeth Banks, she's been in some of my all time favorite movies over the last 20 years and I would very much like to see her in a Marvel movie. Though she's too old to play Miss Marvel at this point (even though I'd much rather take a 40 year old with a personality and acting talent than some 20 year old who's only contribution is a pretty face), I do think her real life personality is very much what I think Janet Van Dyne's would be like, just a shame Marvel already [frick]ed that possibility up.

She would have been a good choice for Sue Storm.
A more mature Sue & Reed is better than the crappy youngsters that Fox has coming up.

I would like her a female villain,Marvel needs a good bad girl to be main antagonist.
Don't know who she that could be but she's a good actress.

@DrKinsolving: Ooooyeah, a She-Hulk TV show, that's sort of equal parts Ally McBeal (a female lawyer dramedy from the '90s, kids which coincidentally starred RDJ) and super-heroes. Get the writers of Orange Is The New Black (they know how to write female characters), put it on Netflix, it could be something pretty great.

Bravo! Finally someone on these message boards called it like it is with Zoe Saldana and hollywoods agenda. I'm all for interracial relations on and off screen but clearly Hollywood makes it a point to have it frequently occur with white males and blacks males. You don't see it too much with black males with white females which gives the impression that both black women and white don't desire a black man and gives Hollywood an one sided agenda to push this and no better than the self hated Zoe Saldana and a few other actresses like herself.

@jimoakley: The more I think about it the more I'm starting to like the idea of her playing Carol Danvers. She's got a great personality, she doesn't take herself serious at all and she's got a pretty wry sense of humor which would make her fit in well in a Joss Whedon ensemble and yeah, a woman who's seen and done the things Carol has (she's been everything from a magazine editor to jet pilot) wouldn't be some young waif, she'd be a 40 year old woman (who just happens to have the body of a 30 year old) just like Elizabeth Banks.

@Embassada: So wait, Zoe Saldana hates herself because she's married to a white man but yet you, who is obviously a black man desires to see movies where white women fawn over black males, that doesn't make you someone who hates your race or yourself? Your logic seems flawed.

Let's blame the actress for choosing to be with white male co-stars even though she is not the one who casts them!

People SERIOUSLY need to take a Hollywood 101 and PR 101 classes. The delusion is just astounding.

And THAT is why she (Zoe) was the weakest link in GotG? Because she doesn't movie-date Afro-Americans?
I don't disagree with your disconnected rant at all.
But it was just the weakest segue ever.
