Are WB Planning To Make WONDER WOMAN The DCCU Version Of THOR?

Yesterday, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice producer Charles Roven seemed to let slip a few details pertaining to the origins of the first big-screen incarnation of Wonder Woman. Are WB/DC positioning her to be their version of the MCU's Thor?

Towards the end of a video interview with THR, Batman v Superman: Dawn Of justice producer Charles Roven spoke a little about how this film would integrate the highly skilled but superpower-less Batman into the world established in Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel, essentially setting up the Justice League movie. One super-powered being the caped crusader will be encountering in these films is Diana of Themyscira, aka Wonder Woman, and according to Roven we can expect to see the modernized "New 52" take on the character's origins.

The classic DC telling of Wonder Woman's "birth" is pretty out there. Diana was created from clay, and gifted with the soul of the unborn daughter of the first woman to ever be murdered by a man. But the New 52 origin was much more conventional (well, we're still talking about Gods shagging here but you know what I mean) and saw Zeus and the Queen of the Amazons, Hippolyta, give birth to Diana, thus making her a Demigod. In the interview, Roven very clearly states: "“She’s a demigod. Her father was Zeus.”

Now providing he wasn't just referencing the new comic origin to avoid going into detail about how the movies will handle this, it's likely this is the back-story we'll get for Wonder Woman in Dawn Of Justice -- and that might turn out to be very similar to how Marvel handled the Thor character's transition to the big screen.

In the comics Thor is very much a God, but the movies tweaked this so that he and his kind were actually an alien race who were worshipped as Gods by primitive man, and so passed into legend. Similarly, the new 52 Wonder Woman origin keeps the clay creation story as the myth surrounding Diana's birth. See where I'm going here? I would not be at all surprised if WB/DC took a very similar approach when introducing Wonder Woman in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. The rumours pointed to her also being of Kryptonian descent, but my guess is they'll be aliens (or "inter-dimensional beings" if you prefer) known as the Amazons, and the people of Earth will be familiar with her people's exploits from Greek mythology, just as they were with The Asgardians from Norse mythology in the Thor movies.

To be honest, as much as I always liked the classic Wonder Woman origin, the New 52 take on it simply makes more sense for a movie adaptation so I'd be perfectly happy if this was the route they took. How about you guys?

Before it even comes out I hate it. DC/WB are just awful. They make awful films. And I already HATE the plot.

Logic.

Now let me talk with my head not in my ass.

I like the idea. If done right it could make for an awesome origin for the character.

Yeah i was puzzled as to why Tony Stark referred to Thor as the demigod in The Avengers when he was stalling Loki?

I always thought Thor was just a god in the MCU.

And once again, Zeus just can't keep it in his pants. Wonder Woman is now related to at least half of people in Greek mythology. Imagine family dinners...

Really now, that's good. I like that.

When will Gal Gadot come to Greece so I can feed her some gyros or something btw?

only a retard would want wonder woman to have kryptonian lineage. i truly hope snyder, goyer, or everyone involved in bvs and dccu won't be going full retard by making her or olympian gods or the amazon to have kryptonian lineage.

I wouldn't be against it. I always hated the "clay" origin. Seemed so stupid.

In Greek Mythology the gods were always visiting Earth so they could shag a human. That is why the heroes of Greek Myth were superior to other people, mum or dad was a god.

I don't give a rats ass if they said she was from Ork with Mork. This movie is about the forming of the JL and the two big components are Superman and Batman. I know WW is part of that trinity nonsense but let's be real, her back story and origin will be backseat in this movie. I can't wait to see them all on the screen and kicking ass. I really don't care as much about her parents as I do the costume and kick ass action. I'm sure the story will be fine and if it's not rushed like MoS, we will be looking at one of the best CBMs ever!

You know what's great is that DC/WB's is planning to do a Wonder Woman film which could actually explore Greek deities and Greek mythology.

Finally, we are getting a comic book film that will have a female super hero in the lead.
