First Look At 'The Necromancer' In THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES

As we now know, the mysterious Necromancer that was haunting Dol Guldur in the first two movies is actually Sauron, and he'll be voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch in The Battle Of The Five Armies. After the jump you can see how he'll be depicted in that film..

TheOneRing.net have posted the following scan from one of The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies companion books that are about to hit shelves. This is "The Necromancer", aka the Dark Lord Sauron in the form he took before the giant flaming eye we saw in The Lord Of The Rings trilogy. As you can see he looks pretty much as he did in the prologue of The Fellowship of the Ring before having his armoured body destroyed by Isildur. He also appears to be holding something...perhaps one of the Palantír seeing stones to tempt Saruman with? Like Smaug the Dragaon, the Necromancer will be voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch in the film.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town. Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.

Starring Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Hugo Weaving and Orlando Bloom, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is set to be released on December 17th.

Don't get me wrong I know I'll be proven otherwise but the trailer for this movie just didn't call out to me like I thought it would I'll watch it as I've liked the others.

I'm intrested in seeing the differences between this and the book though.

Yes, he's only mentioned in passing in the book, and Jackson made his a fully fledged character in the movies.

STONE THE BASTARD!!!!

Seriously, the stuff people find to moan about never ceases to amuse me.

@Ror machine...couldn't agree more! It's an adaptation of Tolkien's material, brought to life on the screen by PJ. There were quite a few changes to the LOTR movies from the books too, but they were amazing films. I guess some people have nothing better to do than piss and moan about everything!

Most of the added material is based on Tolkiens work, but some is purely made up and even what is based on Tolkien is twisted. The real problem with including it is that it doesn't belong there from a storytelling perspective - it removes the focus from the simple adventure of Bilbo and tried to turn everything epic when it shouldn't be.

Hobbit films are better than LOTR films.
Not a reader of Tolkien so I don't care about the source material.
Hobbit only has one Hobbit,Bilbo & he's ok but LOTR is thick with those annoying little turds.

Add the fact how much Gollem is in the LOTR & I can barely sit through them.
Gollem is the Jar Jar Binks of LOTR..Just awful.
To each his own I suppose.

@RorMachine

I am curious...I don't remember any of the books very well or the LOTR movies...

Sauron as the big eye in the sky, cool. But didn't Isildor destroy his body many years before the events of the Hobbit? How does he have a body in this? And then have Gandalf surprised he's around in LOTR?

@MercwithMouth

After defeat many year later he could form new shape,new body.

Also this eye thing is only in movies,in books eye was only metaphor not form of Sauron,because he had body,Tokien writes about this in his letters.

Gus, I'm not surprised. They always play down to their competition. The key is to be drunk enough to handle the emotional rollercoaster.
