GOTG's Djimon Hounsou In Talks For Guy Ritchie's KING ARTHUR Movie

It seems negotiations fell through with Idris Elba, so now Guardians Of The Galaxy actor Djimon Hounsou is in talks to join Guy Ritchie's Knights Of The Roundtable: King Arthur in the "Merlin type role". More details after the jump.

Variety are reporting that Djimon Hounsou is in talks to play the "Merlin-esque figure who trains and mentors Arthur" in Guy Ritchie's upcoming take on the classic tale, which is being envisioned as a six-part saga at Warner Bros. Apparently this is the role Thor: The Dark World's Idris Elba was up for, but scheduling conflicts arose and he was forced to drop out. Hounsou would join Charlie Hunnam in the title role of Arthur Pendragon, Astrid Berges-Frisbey as Guinevere, and Jude Law is still in talks to play the villain. There have been various movies, comics and tv shows based around Arthurian legend over the years, including the underrated Camelot and the mediocre Disney produced flick with Clive Owen in the title role. The most successful take was arguably John Boorman's Excalibur back in 1981. Akiva Goldsman and Tory Tunnell will produce, Joby Harold (Awake, Edge Of Tomorrow) is on script duty. The movie is set for a July 22, 2016 release.

He was wasted in GOTG. Korath was a role any actor could have played in their sleep.

ah, a new King Arthur movie, look forward to it (how long before they do a Marvel Cinematic Universe on it)

And I hope they give Djimon a better role in this movie than he had in Guardians. As Captain Obvious said above, any old actor could have played Korath...or screw it, they could have just left the pointless Korath out, and give his few reasons to be in the movie, to Nebula

Seriously, not trying to hate on Marvel, but one of their major flaws is giving their black actors terrible roles. Idris Elba (even though I love him in the little he does as Heimdall) is underused in Thor, any goddamn wrestler or stuntman could have played Kurse in Thor 2 and Korath was pointless in Guardians

Seriously, and it had to be 3 wonderful and pretty fantastic actors in Idris, Adewale and Djimon, who should have been kept for superior Marvel roles. they cant even be re-used for other Marvel characters (like Karen Gillan etc), because we clearly saw their faces in their respective roles!

I dont criticise Marvel on much, but this was one of the things I did

Oh God, I knew Hunnam was in this movie, but they cast him as ARTHUR?? I still think most of what went wrong with his character in Pacific Rim was due to the writing, but he certainly didn't help. This seems like a bit of a mistake.

I guess it's just some of the auditions. In the meantime.

And soon.

Djimon missed the widow for the current Black Panther, but he can still be T'Chaka.

Hollywood love the magical negro. Sad that over 30 years after Hollywood Shuffle, the roles for most black actors have barely evolved.

A six-part King Arthur with a black guy.

Oh, SUUUUURE.

Yup.

It's Twenty-Fecking-Fourteen.

The world has lost its collective mind.

Ever think his schedule or prior commitments only allowed him to play a small role in the MCU...just maybe...

No, that's generally not how casting works.

But a Black guy in an Arthur movie is cool (maybe he'll be a Moor?), but why in a "Merlin-type" role? Who's Merlin? This reeks of magical Negro to me, especially because he's replacing Elba. "Oh, we lost Hollywood's main Black guy, let's just go down the list."

this project is doomed to fail.
the old bizness methods dont work anymore

the old bizness method was if something made money copy it and flog it until it dies....

Audiences will not go and see this movie .
They will never make six instalments.

Excalibur is definitive.

Camelot 3000 would maybe have worked.

Getting rid of Merlin ,who is a main character is ridiculous.

Hold up. King Arthur was "Mediocre"? Have you seen the director's cut? It's by far the best King Arthur story put to screen, partly because it bases the legend in a historically plausible setting. I don't see how it was mediocre.
