Quantum Of Solace

It seems the criminal organization known as Quantum will not be completely written out of future Bond movies after all. When there was no mention in Skyfall, many thought this plotline was to be abandoned, but Jesper Christiansen's return as Quantum liaison Mr. White appears to contradict that. While speaking to Euroman, the actor confirmed that he'd be reprising the role. "I am looking forward to working with Sam Mendes and Daniel Craig. It is a truly exciting script and a very capable team. So it'll be fun...". Christiansen debuted as White in Casino Royale, and then was last seen making his escape through the tunnels beneath Siena in Quantum Of Solace with the aid of M's double-agent bodyguard, Mitchell. Is 007 going to have to content with both SPECTRE and Quantum in his next outing? We'll find out when SPECTRE goes on general release November 6, 2015. The movie will also star Daniel Craig, Christoph Waltz, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Rory Kinnear, Andrew Scott, Monica Belluci, Dave Bautista and Lea Seydoux.

I stopped caring who Quantum were after Quantum Of Solace and Skyfall. They introduced the idea of a mysterious organisation connected to varying high-ranking goverment offices then immediately forgot to do anything with it during Skyfall. As for this character he's fairly unmemorable.

Either way, chances are Solace is a segment of Quantum that is opperating within MI6.

Damn, saw this yesterday but thought it wasn't 'comic-booky' enough to make an article about. Regardless, this is great news! He was awesome in Casino Royale, and one of the only redeeming qualities of Quantum Of Solace. It'll be great to finally get some closure on Quantum.

QOS wasn't that bad. That story line needs to be tied up. He was an interesting character. ,Maybe Quantum is a subsidiary of SPECTRE or is taken over by SPECTRE....maybe they are rival organizations. I think its apart of SPECTRE most likely.

@Minty

You expect a site like this to actually bother focusing on Comic book movie news? They just go for whatever is popular in an attempt to get views :P

@Scarilian - Haha fair play, whatever gets hits I guess :P But seriously I kinda like that it covers sci-fi/blockbuster movies too, especially as CBMs are proving they're more than just a single genre

Quantum of Solace actually gets better with each viewing, especially now that they are expanding on Quantum as a part of spectre

“Today, I admit that I regard [Casino Royale] and [Quantum of Solace] as really shit. All the people die in them, so two movies are enough for me.” - Jesper Christensen at the Berlin Film Festival

3 things:

1) It's not a big deal that Skyfall made no mention of Quantum. The 3rd Bond film, Goldfinger, also took a break from using Spectre villains. Goldfinger was not affiliated with the group. And then of course Thunderball returned to having the group as a Bond enemy.

2) The synopsis says Bond gets a tip from an "unlikely, cryptic source" which gets him started on Spectre's trail. This source is probably Mr. White. Last time we saw him he was sitting in the theatre where Bond outed many Quantum operatives. It seems he may have gotten away; but its possible Quantum is out to get him now.

3) Quantum will be be revealed to be Spectre I believe. Quantum in Bulgarian is translated to "Spectre." It is, afterall a secret organization. It would not be a stretch for the group to have separate names, or even switch names.

Bonus: Just as Bond was reinvented with Casino Royale to better match films like the Bourne Identity, it is possible that the Bond people by including Spectre, are trying to tape in to the recent success of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I.E. Shield vs. Hydra/MI6 vs. Spectre. It makes sense. Moreover, Quantum is Spectre in all but name.....the Bond folks did recently get the full rights to the characters of Blofeld in Spectre in 2013, so obviously they could not call it "Spectre" in 2006's Casino Royale.

There have been numerous James Bond comic books over the years, that's why we cover it.

Mr. White isn't James Bond's biggest fan. Bond shot him in the leg, and then put him in the truck of his car, which he was in while Bond was evading bad guys. That's a rough ride.

I can't imagine Mr. White will be too happy to see James Bond again.

This also confirms Quantum could be a branch of SPECTRE.

Thank god. I was really hoping Mendes wasn't going to negate Casino and Quantums arc. There was an obvious hole left wide open (at least for myself) when watching Skyfall. In a lot of ways it was why I couldn't enjoy it as much as others. It seemed like they had completely forgotten the two previous films altogether and I really wanted to see what Quantum was. I expect that Quantum is Spectre beta?

I didn't know that about the word Quantum, that all but confirms it is Spectre.

Sorry for the typos, that last comment should read "Blofeld and Spectre in 2013"

AND

Let me speculate about one more thing: It is interesting that the teaser poster utilizes a bullet through glass. It certainly teases the octopus symbol of Spectre (similar to Hydra by the way) but those who have read "On Her Majesties Secret Service" or seen the film may have picked up on something else. In that book/film, Bond famously gets married and his wife is killed while sitting in a car. Blofeld conducts a drive by which ends with a bullet coming through the windshield and killing Mrs. Bond. This is a classic scene in the movie, which leaves as the last scene the bullet hole in the window shield, but also in the book.

Is it possible Bond could have a serious love interest in the film that Blofeld kills in a similar matter?

@RorMachine - Makes sense. Tbh this site shouldn't be criticised about reporting on stuff outside the classic comic book stuff. Especially during the wait between CBMs. Most people who like Avengers/Batman like the Planet Of The Apes/Bond/Star Trek/Wars too etc.

AND....one more thing...just thought of this.

In the Casino Royale novel, it is not SPECTRE that Bond is up against, or that ends up killing Vesper. It is actually SMERSH, which was affiliated with the Soviet Union.

Later, when we are introduced to SPECTRE for the first time in the novel "Thunderball" it is revealed that SPECTRE utilizes the best criminals from various international organizations, one of which was SMERSH.

Ergo, Quantum could simply be a modern update of SMERSH, from which SPECTRE sometimes utilizes agents. We may find out that due to Bond's outing of so many high profile figures in Quantum of Solance, that MI6 was able to capture or kill many of those people.

Or, since Quantum did already have so many characteristics of SPECTRE in the first two Craig films, perhaps it is SPECTRE itself, or simply a wing of the organization.

Yeah, the actor previously called the first two Craig movies a piece of shit and that he didn't want anything to do with them anymore...so I'd take this with a massive grain of salt.

Plus, I'd be perfectly okay to never hear the word "Quantum" mentioned again in a Bond movie. It's a loose end, sure, but it was never a particularly good one in the first place.

I was definitely more excited to hear about the new Bond movie that the teaser trailer for the new Star Wars movie. So the two movie i am the most excited to see next year is Avengers: Age of Ultron and Spectre.
