Michelle MacLaren Says WONDER WOMAN Still Not Officially Greenlit

Though that's probably only a matter of time of course. In their profile on MacLaren, Vulture ask the director about the recent announcement that she'd be helming Warner Bros.' solo Wonder Woman movie. She can't really talk about it, but does offer a few minor updates.

Vulture have posted a lengthy profile on Michelle MacLaren, who has signed on to helm Wonder Woman for Warner Bros. Though they do ask her about this, MacLaren obviously can't go into too much detail, though it seems that for the moment there really aren't many details to give anyway. The Game Of thrones/Walking Dead director does say that there's still no script or release date, and that the studio haven't actually given the project the green light yet. That'll happen in due time of course (barring any unforeseen hiccups that is), and we recently found out that Pan scribe Jason Fuchs was in negotiations to pen the script with MacLaren overseeing so there should be some movement on that soon too. Here is the pertinent portion of the article. There's not much there, but these are MacLaren's first comments on the matter since landing the gig. Be sure to check out the full profile (link below) too though, as there's some very interesting stuff about her TV work.

"I ask the director for details about the DC Comics epic Wonder Woman, which she was picked to direct after a lengthy, widely publicized search. She stirs her tea. Then she warns that at the moment there is no script, no release date. There’s not even an official green light from the film’s releasing studio, Warner Bros.—and even if there were, nondisclosure agreements and her paranoia about jinxing things would keep her mum. “I really, really, really can’t talk about this,” she says, then gestures toward the restaurant’s picture windows, with their action-film-worthy Hollywood panoramas. “I just picture a drone coming in over the hills and crashing through the glass and flying over here and putting duct tape over my mouth, you know?”"

There's no official script, that's why there's no official greenlight. Warners can plan a release date, say it's in development, but if there's no script they can't very well say "yup, it's being made by 2017!"

Not really surprising. I'd suspect WB would want to see how Dawn of Justice turns out before giving the go ahead for Wonder Woman or any other DCCU movie directly connected with Dawn of Justice or the inevitable Justice League.

@TheRationalNerd

I assume that's more just a window and guideline. Even Marvel has known to on occasion move a date after it's announced.

They've just announced their intention to make a WW movie and staked a claim on a date... A green light comes when they actually commit a budget to the project, something they can't do until after a script comes in and accountants go through it and price it out.

Also can we please remember that this is Warner Bros we're talking about. Would it really surprise anyone if Dawn of Justice tanked and the studio delayed plans for further expansion of the franchise after losing confidence in the DCCU?

They are making the script and the movie is 3 years away so they probably are not really worrying about that right now and are focusing on BVS and SS.

@TheRationalNerd Because this is Warner and they are talking about money, not about characters and fandom, Nolan was fandom and love for characters, Snyder put his loook into the things after a long time of being a comic book fan, but Warner dont even have a DC Movie Universe, because Man of Steel is the only movie of this.

They are trying to pull out a team movie like the "Avengers" but more dark, good write and epic in only the second movie and that is ok, but if you look the things, Marvel is better for me not because the "Avengers" was great, that movie have a plot that is base in the first "Avengers" comics and have a lot of plot holes, but like they build the universe was the thing you know?

It's like everyone missed the part where the reporter quoted her as saying "and even if there were, nondisclosure agreements and her paranoia about jinxing things would keep her mum"
I.e. even if it was greenlit (which we know it is from the lineup) she will neither confirm nor deny anything. Cos of the NDA she signed. She's forbidden to say ANYTHING about it besides the fact that she is directing it.
