Sandman Movie...Well?

Your thoughts and ideas for a Sandman Movie

There have been rumours of a movie of Neil Gaimans acclaimed Sandman comic buzzing around for years now, but no studio or director has ever been attached to the project. Gaiman himself feels...
"I've been saying since 1991, I'd rather see no 'Sandman' movie than a bad 'Sandman' movie made," "I think the time of a good 'Sandman' movie is getting closer. With luck, we'll see the 'Death' movie first 'cause that's small and cheap and I'm going to direct it. [A 'Sandman' movie] needs someone with the passion of a Peter Jackson for 'Lord of the Rings' or Sam Raimi on 'Spider-Man' to get the film through Warner Bros

So it looks like a possibility folks. I would like to know your choices for cast, director and how you feel the movie should be handled overall.

I love Sandman, if they ever make a movie Gaiman should definetly write it. In terms of actors...still not sure yet. For dircetor, I think Darren Aronofsky is perfect for an adaptation like this.

Thats a great choice, id say he would nail the strangeness of the comics. Actor wise, Johhny depp keeps coming to mind, but i think thats because he looked so much like morpheus as edward scissorhands! My worst fear is that hollywood would turn this into another superhero blockbuster

Touche! ...but in fairness, Sandman is far less suited to the action blockbuster treatment than Watchmen..which incidently i dont think will be anyway! but we just have to wait and see dude.

I can see the endless duking it out, each one has his own level, Destiny goes around using his book, Death her Ankh, Destruction has a sword and his dog, Despair with her ring, Dream, etc. each with their own weapon mashing it up like the lovely watchmen mobile game (hell they can probably use the same game engine, just change the graphics).

I think Hollywood is finally understanding the gold mine Neil Gaiman is. Every book I've read written by him is just beatiful, now there's a Coraline movie, and Death is coming!!! that is one of the best news this year (that sounds so emo, but I'm not), hopefully he'll retain creative control over the Sandman movie, if not over the onslaught of merchandise.

yeah the emos did kinda claim the endless didnt they? well [frick] em! the sandman comics remain my favorite stories ever.

i think the movie should just focus on preludes and nocturnes..its quite cinematic anyway for all its weirdness. of course it means getting john constantine in there (blonde and english or keanu?) as well as mr miracle and jonn jonzz..somehow i think they might leave them out of it!

they probably won't, although I read somewhere that Death: the high cost of living will happen first. What are your casting choices for that?

I'm not too familiar with Sandman, i'm sure it's a fine piece of literature but if they were to make the movie, bring on Tim Burton to direct and Depp to play it and let's not forget having Gaiman write the actuall script!

Winning recepy in my cook book!!!

Yeah that could work..Burton might "gothic" it up a bit too much though..and even though Morpheus dresses like a goth, the comic is actually not like that at all. Depp would be great though, regardless of director..the mans a genius imo.

as for death, for some reson i always pictured her as having a kind of snooty english accent so i think Kiera Knightly would be good..looks wise aswell.

how about the rest of the endless?

here's my casting call for some of the endless.

For Destruction I'd have Dennis Storhoi or Vladimir Kulich, both starred in the 13th warrior.

For Delirium I'd have Hannah Murray (Skins' Cassie) although she'd have to act a bit better.

For Destiny, someone we can't see their face and who can act in a robe carriyng a book. Let's cast Mr. DeNiro.

For Dream, Jhony Depp could fit the part quite well, although I'd love to see a young newcomer tackle this.

Despair, is really hard. Could be Roseanne Arnold? (it's sort of a joke, but somehow it kinda works too). Or the fat lady in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, after googling it up IMDB says she's Kathy Lamkin. Maybe Kathy would be better.

Desire... that's really hard, don't know someone androgynus... Milla Jovovich?(her acting sucks) the artist formerly known as Prince?(his acting only works when it focus on him) don't really know who it could be.

Death, I love that character so much. This is the hardest for me, so I won't try to cast her (it'd just dissapoint me so much). Although Kiera... could work but I'm positive there has to be someone better out there. (If only Helena Bonham Carter was younger)

Now for director... unless you want this movie to be the EMO movie of all time, Tim Burton has to stay clear from this project, otherwise it will be impossible for nonemos to see it.

good stuff, ive never seen 13th warrior..are those dudes in anything else?

k heres mine..

For Destruction id go for Karl Urban! i wonder if he knows how much hype hes getting on these forums? lol

id love Tori Amos for Delerium, wonder if she can act?

Deniro for Destiny it is lol

DAniel day lewis would be a great Dream..a few years ago!

Despair may have to be cgi..or danny devito with false breasts

I think cate blanchette would be a good Desire

yeah i like helena b carter for death. courtney cox would look the part,,a few years back anyway..but shed be an awful choice. mmmm. im sticking with miss knightly

mmm Tori Amos, don't if she can act either but it's a really good choice, although the girl from skins is much much younger and has a less curvacious body, we could always cast Bjork for death (with major makeup), then she'd kick everyone's ass and this movie would never get done.

Cate Blanchett, could work or maybe Tilda Swinton (sort of like what she did in Constantine?). Despair, could be Danny Devito with breasts or Verne Troller with a fat costume? I still think that Kathy Lamkin has the looks (fat pasty white skin), they can do what they did with the hobbits to make her look smaller.

I still can't picture death, Kiera in my mind could work, but I insist there has to be someone better. And for dream, we are still stuck with a 40 year old Jhonny Depp or Daniel Day Lewis (how old is he?). Could always cast Shia Lebouf as dream, roflmao.

As for the guys in the 13th warrior, most of them have acted in more movies, but most of them in Sweeden, Netherlands, Finland or Norway. Maybe you can rent it (download it? no I didn't just write that I'm not telling you to use piracy as a means to get a movie you haven't seen) or search for them in Youtube. That movie has a very scandinavian feel to it, that can give all the Thor fans nice ideas on how Thor should be, and it's not that bad (hell it uses slo-mo in battles too) mind you not good either but watchable.

lmao at verne troyer in a fat suit! i think it might have to be cgi there. shes not a major character anyway.

if they follow the first story arc only dream and death of the endless would be in the movie anyway. but wed have lucifer, lucien, kane and able, Dr destiny, john constantine!

i liked reeves constantine..or maybe i just didnt hate it as much as i thought i would! either way i think we need him blonde and english for this...id go for paddy considine from dead mans shoes.

lucifer..viggo mortenson definately

Dr destiny would require a shit load of makeup..but i think maybe someone like jude law would be good for some reason
