Has Raimi Revealed the Villain of Spider-Man 4?

Yes folks, the villain in Spiderman 4 may really suck!...your blood that is wooohooohahahahah

When Empire magazine sat down with Sam Raimi he gave some insight into the villain he may like to see in Spiderman 4..and that villain is... wait for it... MORBIUS!

"I like it in the Marvel comics when Spiderman fights Morbius" says Raimi. "Hes really cool. A vampire! I like that combination of superhero plus supernatual"

It's not really surprising that the director of the Evil Dead movies and upcoming horror flick Drag Me To Hell might want to inject some horror vibes into the spideyverse. At first glance Morbius may seem like a strange choice for villain but when you think about it his origins are not that far removed from most of the webheads foes. He is yet another scientist tragically transformed after a botched experiment gives him all the attributes associated with vampires..flight, a thirst for blood, collection of Cure cds.

David lindsay-Abaire has just started working on the script so its highly possible that we will still see Dylan Baker as the Lizard or possibly the Vulture (has to be Larry David!)..but considering Venom was sort of forced upon Raimi last time around he may well insist on getting his own way...keep the garlic handy!

Nah just speculation, and to be honest i think its highly possible that Raimi is trying to throw people of the scent of who the real villain will be

F@ckin Idiots!! This would have been cool for Spiderman3 and here is why...

...if they would've started talking about this during the post production of Spidey2, then they could've stopped Blade 3 from being made as they talked about a possible crossover.

Then, instead of the mess that was Blade Trinity AND Spiderman 3, they could have have given us the 1st GREAT CROSSOVER!!

Spiderman and Blade in one movie......F@CK!!

MarkCassidy - 1/6/2009, 8:39 PM
Yeah in theory..but both of those franchises had already carved out a different niche in the superhero genre..i mean Blade was all about the gore and the action, they wer R rated movies..Spedy was obviously more family orientated. So by crossing them over they would have to either tone down Blade or up the violence of Webhead

Raimi's an idiot.

Instead of using the actual main villains from Spider-Man's library of bad guys, like, say, Lizard, who they've been teasing in the past two films, he uses these fifth-rate villains that no one cares about, like Sandman. Honestly, after Spider-Man 2 came out, who was like "I want Sandman for #3!" Only Raimi because, despite others like Lizard being villains people actually CARE about, he just wanted to pick his own personal favorite.

And after the fiasco that was Spider-Man 3, Raimi doesn't deserve to touch Spider-Man again anyway. Now this news? I think we should all just admit that the guy has totally lost it, and move on with another director.

No crossover, Blade's owned by a different company, besides, Wesley Snipes is in prison. But yeh, Morbius sucks (excuse the pun). I'd Prefer the Lizard, and returning of venom. Doc Connors is already partially set up in the movies why not continue it? Or add craven the hunter into the mix in place of venom, have him hunting the Lizard, and when thats done have his attention turn to spidey.

I swear to God if they Fuk this up by injecting a vampire into Spiderman movie when they have all these other characters to work with, i will personally go Frank Castle on Sony's ass. I was that guy in the theater when SM3 came out opening weekend that literally stood up and threw his drink at the screen and began shouting and cursing profusely when they killed Venom. I didn't even see the part where Sandman makes peace with Spidey or Harry sayin good bye, I walked out and demanded my money bak(of course the bastards didn't oblige, and i almost got the cops called on me). Yes, I was that pissed. I hope ur right Rorschach, and this is a tactic Raimi is using to throw us off the trail of who the obvious villain is going to be. The Lizard. And dammit ill be pissed if they don't have the Lizard in 4, regardless of whoever else they may use. The Lizard is a good villain, and he is savage and murderous. That said, I think I'm gonna do an Article proposing my plot for SM4. Look for it soon.

how about the posibility of a Spiderman - Daredevil crossover? Have Daredevil or Matt Murdock in the background somewhere, not literally just standing in the background, but sutley in a scene somwhere. As i'm writing this i'm realising some many things wrong with my idea, but who cares.

to hell with Spidey, VIVA LA DAREDEVIL(Yellow).

Well to be honest i always thought Sandman was way cooler than Lizard or Vulture..but i know he wasnt as popular among most fans. Spidey/Daredevil croosover would be class if done right

Hey guys, Twilight is huge and that means there should be vampires in every movie! Woo!

[frick] this!

I always wanted to see a crossover with the human torch. Spidey and the torch's personalities always meshed well together.

And the Sandman was the only villian that wasn't bastardized in the third spidey flick. He is a big villian in the Spidey-verse and I did actually say that I hope they bring in the Sandman for number 3. But ya, definitely the Lizard for the next. Can't make the movie mature enough to fit Carnage in there.

since they already messed up the movie franchise, like the 1990's batman did when they killed the joker. They should just bring Venom back in to the movie. since venom uses an optic-camouflage type of effect, making him seem invisible. then at some point in the 4th movie tell the origin of Carnage. then in the 5th movie have venom team up with spider-man to kill carnage and in the 6th movie have a final show down agienst venom and spider-man. if that does not happen it is a series of movies that are completely messed up and might just end in nipples like the old batman movies did.

Elbeaster has alot of good points. For some reason i feel this franchise should stop at 5. I'm sorry to those of you who want the Vulture, but I just don't see it. It would be like making the Penguin again in a Batman movie. An Adrian Tombes is an old dude, older than Norman Osborn or Otto Octavius, and it doesn't seem right to have him kickin Spidey's ass on the big screen. Lizard all the way for SM3, though I am all for introducing other characters. Small part for shocker robbing a bank and Spidey foils him and then we see no more Shocker, something like that just insert your own villain. I really want to get rid of Kirsten Dunst. That leaves room for Gwen Stacey or intro Felicia Hardy. Also, I want Spidey to be the smartass he is in the comics. I'm sick of whiny, and sometimes seemingly bewildered, Parker. I want the fast talkin, make it look good style. No Carnage please I coulnd't take it to screw him up like they did Venom.

yea a daredevil/spidey cross over would work if done right. they could possibly reboot from there with a different matt because ben's affleck is being a "im too good for that role" asshole. so cast a different DD that can be the leading role in the new rebooted dd movies. whos agrees???

I think it would be cool to introduce the Lizard and Scorpion. Since Doc Conners still has a piece of the sybiote Spider-Man could beat the crap out of Scorpion at the end, and the symbiote attaches itself to Mac Gargon and BAM!!! New Venom. Cuz for those of you who don't read the comics in the new ones the old Scorpion (Mac)is the new Venom. He just eats people. But yeah... As far what happens with the Lizard I got nothin'. I just always liked him as a character.

Schooperman87 - 1/9/2009, 2:18 PM
Also if Venom is back it opens up the possiblities for the other symbiotes (Carnage, Toxin, Scream, Hybrid...) And this is just my own personal opinion, but if they were gunna do Carnage they would have to do a lot of implied violence with him. Kinda like the Dark Knight did. I mean there were guys getting shot right and left in the movie but you never saw any blood. Which is fine and all, I'm not saying that there has to be gore but once again, if they are gunna do carnage they are gunna have to be pushing it to max PG-13 as far as violence is concerned.... Well those are my two cents.

NO NO NO NO NO! Everyone, i think we all agree that spidey 3 suck, for this reason because sandman is not a villian that should have taken the focus from venom, we were all excited when we heard venom would be in the movie, and we expected him to be more of a bad ass, and we thought maybe topher grace would pull it off, but he didnt and venom was at the end of the movie, ok well they screwed that up, the only way they can make spidey 4 and 5 better then all of them and for a way to redeam themselves, is to bring CARNAGE thats they only way, he is the only villian a step up on venom, the movie should be about venom comming for revenge on spidey, of course spidey beats him then the secound half should be about venom in jail, this is where carnage is created and of course hes a big threat to venom and carnage, so spidey five should be about venom and spidey teaming up to fight carnage, thats the only way your going to sell out at the box office and thats the only way anyone is going to care about the franchise from now on, make it a bad ass movie, sam rami needs to quit, and see that he has no idea what spidey is about, he says he is a fan but a true fan would never change the story, we all know that hollywood producers make directors do things but they dont want to but im sure there were better choices that could have been made in spidey 3.

They definately brought Venom in too early. Spidey 3 should have been Spiderman discovers suit, has issues with suit while fighting Sandman/ Green Goblin (or a thug Harry hired using his dads technology aka Hobgoblin), then abandons the suit. Eddie Brock finds suit at end, setting him up to the main villian for 4. Easy, and keeps somewhat close to continuity. Instead the studio got greedy and tried to shove Venom in 3 for the quick bucks and threw the whole thing into wack. Bastards.

As for Morbius in the next movie, meh... he's just as interesting as Scorpion, Lizard, Kraven, Mysterio and so no matter what it will cool either way. The vulture is still lame, though.

If Morbius is included in the movie, it seems to me that there would be nice little benifit from this. The idea of another scientist creating himself anew would probally have him pairing up with Connors in search of the "Enhancement" juice. If that were the case maybe we get two transmutations for the price of one! They could fight each other and Spidey could try to stop them. It could be very interesting to see to powerful characters trying to destroy each other and not really be interested in Parker's death.

MarkCassidy - 1/9/2009, 3:18 PM
first off, Spiderman 3 did not suck!..sure it was uneven and the ending was rushed and it had too many characters but it was still a good movie all things considered. See Venom was forced upon Raimi for that movie, he never wanted to use him that early, if at all. Sandman could have been a great villain if he had been allowed more screen time and development. I thought James Franco was great as Harry osbourne too. It really should have been just those 2 villains

I'm surprised that nobody has brought up a combo like Kraven and Chameleon. They worked together in the comics and an adaptation of the "Death of Kraven" or storyline or something akin to it would be pretty interesting. I'm not saying adapt it straight from the story. But maybe just take some elements from it.

I think one of the problems with the Spider-Man movies is that they kind of blew their load (sorry for the expression) with 1 & 2. I mean you have Spidey's two biggest villains in the first two movies. Where do you go from there? To the third biggest villain and then you totally screw that up in the third movie. Just kind of leaves you nowhere to go. Unless you bring back the Green Goblin. And actually have him look like the Green Goblin (biggest pet peeve of that movie.)

I think given the right script any character/villain can be made "cool" whether it be Morbius, Kraven, Shocker, or the Spot. Okay well maybe not the Spot lol :)

I heard this rumour for Spidey 3 and we all know it wasn't true then, but hey, this is the now so it's possible Morbius will feature. Personally I hope he doesn't. Don't get me wrong, he's ok and I quite like the Cure (nice touch by the way) but I think there are many better villains for Spidey to deal with, Shocker, Scorpion (why has no one mentioned him yet, or have I just missed that?), Carnage, Kraven they would all be on my list before Michael-I'm a vampire that sucks blood through my hand for some reason-Morbius.

well, everyone keeps saying that they killed of venom go buy the dvd and listen to the comentary, sam rami says that they did not kill off venom, when the explosion goes off, there were traces still left behind which he said that was for if possible sequal that venom could come back, but if you listen to what topher grace says, he wants venom to be dead, he feels he should not come back at all.

I've said it on another article but Doc Conners still has the Venom sample Peter gave him. So Eddie brock is dead, not the symbiote.

Before the third movie I would care about this stuff, but now I don't. I like the idea of opening with a Shocker bank robbery and then moving onto the Lizard. Scorpion would be my next bet. Kraven would be good with Camelion and Mysterio would work. Thats about it. Vulture could be alright.

The only way that I would really care again is if they did some sort of team-up. Daredevil or Human Torch. I would want Human Torch because that way they could put Doctor Doom in there.

And since we're talkin' about why Spiderman 3 wasn't so great:
1.) Peter's emo dance down the street.
2.) Topher Grace as Venom
3.) VENOM DYING and not being in the movie enough.
4.) The Green Goblin suit.
5.) The characters in the movie have lost all semblence to their comic book counterparts.
6.) Why was Gwen Stacy even in there?

Well I could do this all night. But mostly it was just too many villians and too much stuff crammed into one flick.

It was still a good movie, but I have just about every comic book that Venom was in in the early 90s. You be suprised how many that is. So, I'm a mondo Venom fan and I was majorly disappointed to say the least.

I say recast it and get a new director. He captured what Spider-man is all about in the first one, but lost a little in the second and then the rest of it in the third. I'd say pick it up where they left off just with new people. And have Gwen Stacy get thrown off a bridge!

Ok im going to get blasted for this..but i liked the emo dance!!..i mean i know how silly it was but that was the point..i thought it was funny but i understand why people hate it at the same time. I also liked Bryce dallas Howard as Gwen and to anser your question elbeaster she was in the movie so she could be thrown of a bridge in the next one! Spidey will try to save her and snap her neck with his webbing...providing they follow the comic of course. i think if they recast and got a new director it just wouldnt work, Raimi has created this world we all love and theres nothing broke that cant be fixed

I like Morbius in the new one. Once again, my knowledge of the characters comes from the cartoons. I the cartoon Morbius became a vamp after he tried to duplicate the accident that created Spiderman. He found out about the accident because Peter was afraid that he was changing and needed to stop or reverse the changes before they went too far. This leaves awesome possibilities for the next trilogy.

First movie= Morbius; Spiderman needs Doc Connors' help as the genetics are over his head.
Second Movie= Lizard; Doc Connor uses what he discovered about Spiderman's mutation in the previous movie to try and regrow his arm, leading to his own mutation.
Third Movie= Manspider; Peter is unable to stop his own transformation and Doc Connor and whoever, maybe Black Cat as she is part of the Morbius/Manspider arc, have to save him.

Introducing more of the geneticists into the story allows a more transitioned introduction to Lizard, and ultimately to what I think is the second most interesting arc of Spiderman, Manspider. First, obviously being Venom. With the leaps that CGI is making just imagine how awesome Lizard could be in 3-5 years, or Manspider in 4-6 years.

Yeah the whole Venom character became a royal mess in SP3! I hate to know that they forced the character on to Raimi, and so that's to me why they did him so shity.
Like he didn't give a shit about giving a good VENOM story!

Venom is one of the coolest of ALL the Marvel characters! And Sam really screwed him up.

But the movie made tons of money on both Box office, and DVD's and that's all that matters right?
