It seems the success of HBO's Game Of Thrones continues to inspire other networks, as the latest fantasy series in development is a spin on The Wizard Of Oz called Red Brick Road. Warner Horizon have optioned the series, but any major details are being kept under wraps for now. All we know comes from THR, who reckon the show will be "a continuation of the Wizard of Oz story but told in a Game of Thrones fashion, filled with politics, intrigue and violence".

In the Wizard Of Oz books, the red brick road led to "Quadling Country", which was ruled over by Glinda the good witch. I have no idea what a Quadling is, but I guess we should expect to see them in this series provided it follows the original story. The show is created by Rob Prior, who has worked as a concept artist on several movies including Steven Spielberg’s postponed Robopocalypse. Mark Wolper, Roy Lee and Adrian Askarieh will exec produce.

WHY, why are productions making everyting "dark" ???

Waiting for a dark, violent and sexually explicit take on Winnie The Pooh.

oh and all the animal characters should not be animals. too fantastic. they should be some businessman with animal face likeness.
And Batman will make a cameo in it.

People complaining about dark versions of these tales need to understand that they started out dark to begin with.

@FrankieDedo

Probably because its easier to make a "good" dark movie or series. As long as it has loud music and amazing fx, it probably is easier to do than something lighter that wont come off as childish.

It's very clear many people commenting on this have NOT read the book. The Tin Woodman kills over 40 wolves as well as plenty of other things in the book it's not the bright, kid friendly musical Oz they gave us in the 30s

@WarNoodle I would pay to see The Wizard of OZ adapted like that! Look how badass The Cowardly Lion looks! And speaking of lions... Dorothy is rawr. ;P

HRDWYR@ Because until quite recently no one had the balls to try and do a live action remake of the classic Judy Garland movie.
