UPDATE: STAR WARS: Are Alfonso Cuaron And Simon Pegg Involved?

A reliable source has named both the Children Of Men director and the Star Trek actor as being somehow involved with the upcoming slate of Disney Star Wars movies, but doesn't mention in what capacity. We do have some (possible) new plot details though..

There's not too much to report on here aside from what I already put across in the teaser, but Jim Dorey of Marketsaw - who have been spot on with big franchise scoops in the past - reckons both Alfonso Cuaron and Simon Pegg will be involved in the new Star Wars films. Cuaron is a director, so obviously we'll assume he's lined up to helm one of the movies, but which one? Dorey strongly hints that it will be either episode VIII or Episode IX, but there's always the chance it could be one of the spin-offs we've heard so much about. Then there's Pegg, who plays Scotty in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movies. Pegg is also a huge Star Wars fan, so with Abrams jumping ship it doesn't seem to far fetched that Pegg would follow him, but who might be in line to play? If this is accurate, I can't imagine there would be to many complaints anyway. Cuaron is a Hell of a director, and Pegg practically oozes geek cred - although would there be an issue with him appearing in both Star franchises? That's about all we have on that, but Dorey reckons he knows a bit of extra plot info from Star Wars: Episode VII..

"As far as I know Episode 7 was then, and is now, focusing on the Skywalker's offspring. As I told you before, I believe duel personalities develop, akin to Anakin and Obi Wan, and Luke and Vader in the first trilogies, which as far as I am aware, is the driving force behind the new trilogy. Things may change however, but I doubt it, this has been long in the making.

The focus is on the original trilogy in regards of reverence and tone. Remember I told you before that the tone was important, well I believe they are really taking that seriously. From everything I know, they're focusing on that directly. Remember everything has the ability to change drastically, as Star Wars right now apart from the twin trilogies is a huge blank canvas. However, the trilogies ongoing narrative will continue to focus on that particular branch, whereas the stand alone movies, will fill and expand the voids in between in multiple timelines, and have potential to then be franchised themselves in regards to the worlds they open up.

UPDATE: Pegg has tweeted that this "silly rumor" is "Bantha poodoo". Of course, that doesn't mean much since talent flat out lie about these things, but we were duty bound to bring you the update.

Keeps Alfonso Cuaron away from Star Wars. No more franchise movies for him. He's better off doing movies no one ever heard of.

No Pegg, please. He's fine, but beyond Abrams, I want no more cross-pollination/homogenisation between the franchises.

Alfonso Cuaron would be phenomenal for one of these! Children of Men was brilliant, and he JUST completed work on a drama set in SPACE. I don't know what Lizard is talking about, but I thought his Harry Potter was by far the best one. This would be EXCELLENT news

Pegg would have to play an almost unrecognisable character if he did appear in Star Wars too - either an alien, or as CarlXVIGarfield said, a protocol droid (not C3PO)

@NorrinRaddical: Never saw Children of Men and really doesn't look all that great. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (while not too bad) is the worst one. Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows part 2 are the best of the HP franchise. He has yet to impress me. I would never trust him with something as huge as Star Wars.

I like Pegg but he's terrible as Scotty he was the only character from the reboot I thought was so badly miscast.

I'm just saying, until a trailer for any of his films intruiges me enough to make me want to see it. I'll never support this guy. His films (while look good cinematically) just look average. Impress me like Rian Johnson did with Looper and Christopher Nolan did with Inception. Then, I'll give him consideration.

@Lizard1 "until he impresses me" "I haven't seen Children if Men"... Thanks for your thoughts about a director you know nothing about. COM isn't cinematic looking? Wtf are you even talking about? You know what didn't look cinematic? The frickin Lizard bro...

NorrinRadical: I watched Looper and Inception cause the trailers made the idea of the films even better so, I went and watched them and loved them. Children of Men did nothing to convince me I should see it. It's not that I don't like dramas cause if done right, dramas can be excellent if not phenomenal movies. Children of Men sounded interesting but, the trailer didn't convince me that it will be worth my time and that it would be executed to potential.

Teinen: never did I say it didn't look cinematic enough. What I meant by "looks good cinematically" is that the look of the film is good and interesting. But at best, his movies just look average. I read the premise and it caught my attention. I watched the trailer and any hopes of me watching the movie flew out the window. Nothing about the trailer told me to see it other than for its premise. Which isn't enough for me. I need concrete reasons for the trailer why I should see it.

Tienen it boggles the mind of anyone who has seen COM and read those comments. Not to mention how that film contains some of the most standout scenes in the last decade of cinema, action or otherwise.

I don't know how much worse the trailer must be compared to apparently every other Harry Potter film, but that kid is really missing out

NorrinRaddical: I don't mean disrespect or come off bashing. But, Cuaron doesn't impress me and COM just doesn't look worth it despite its unique and interesting premise.

Really? Cuaron has yet to impress? Children of Men is simply amazing. If the trailer didn't get you to see it, it's your loss.
I should'nt even adress the comment about Prisoner of Azkaban being the worst of the HP and Deathly Hallows 2 being the best, but oh well. Azkaban took way too many liberties with the book (something I'm sure is the main reason it appears to be so frowned upon here) but it's the only HP film that actually has a voice and a personality. DH2 is certainly not the worst of the saga (thats Half-Blood Prince) but the fact that it mainly adapts the climax of the book makes it a very poor film. It's structure is all over the place.

Jacen Solo turns evil (like the books), and it's up to Ben Skywalker to take care of it.

Cuaron was more interested in showing off and doing his movie, rather than the third movie in a series. POA looked like the alternative universe Chavwarts and not Hogwarts.

POA came 8 out of 8 at the box office and is the only Potter to be beaten worldwide by a Twilight movie.

just a side note:
I wonder how many actors and actresses called their agents the moment they heard about the new movies. Especially the 40 somethings that grew up watching the movies.
NorrinRaddical
NorrinRaddical - 2/26/2013, 8:31 AM
Faver - great insight. I must confess, I was late to the Potter party, never read the books, but I enjoyed the films a great deal, and absolutely LOVED "Prisoner". Otherwise agree with Fettastic above, it just about peaked with the Patronis scen in POA.

Lizard you never come across disrespectful. Maybe a bit willfully ignorant, or maybe just young. There are a lot of movies I see trailers for and feel comfortable judging and avoiding, so I completely understand that you know what you like and that's that. I do that too.

In a few years, you may mature in any direction, and I implore you to give Children of Men a fair shot.

Most movies don't really have a lot going on, and sometimes the films that have a LOT going on have trailers that have NO clue how to market them. If you loved Inception and Looper, COM is darker and much more emotionally mature, but good lord it's an absolute punch in the gut, head, and heart. If it dangles something shiny for you, there are imaginative action scenes that absolutely go toe to toe with anything in Inception and Looper, perhaps on a much greater scale

Norrin: I love all kinds of movies. Some click and others don't. I found Brothers to be a very heart wrenching movie. Maybe not a tear jerker but, it definitely tuggs. The end of Gladiator (one of my all time favorites) definitely leaves you saddened and I found Warrior to be a very emotional film. I know I'm 17 and still have loads to learn. But, I can say I have more love and respect for cinema than the people I see who are obsessed with music. I know I may catch flack for this but, I bawled at the end of marley and me and I even cried four times watching Pearl Harbor. Film can be an emotional tugg for some people. It just has to click with that person and if they can invest themselves into the characters and story.
