Newsarama have revealed the details on DC's upcoming Batman '66 series. According to them the series will initially launch as a digital-first comic book in Summer 2013, and will be written by Jeff Parker with rotating artists - starting with Jonathan Case. Later the series will be collected in print. They are also debuting this groovy artwork from the series, giving us a look at Batman, Robin and all of the main villains from the show with only The Penguin conspicuous by his absence. Apparently The Riddler will be the first villain featured.

Says DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson:

“The juxtaposition of offering a retro BATMAN ’66 comic as a current and modern digital first title is fun. DC Entertainment is the most prolific producer of digital first comics and, as we work to create new and compelling content, this is a great way to also preserve the legacy of our characters. It’s exciting to roll out the new BATMAN ’66 comic as part of this bigger initiative with our Warner Bros Consumer Product partners.”

Ok, so its for the Digital First series, not actually part of the 52 line-up. I can deal with that.

WHY?

We better get Nolanverse & Burtonverse comics after this.

They should make Burtonverse comics that ignore Batman Forever and onward.

Nolanverse comics would be awesome.
Hell, if they gave that crappy Smallville show a comic continuation, why can't they give a great movie one?

I don't mind the old tv show. I'll watch it if there's nothing else on. But is there seriously an audience for this?

Don't you hate it when somebody who has been trying their damndest to be taken seriously, finally starts to be teken seriously and then they do nothing but take the piss out of themselves as a defense mechanism. They always seem to fvck things up for themselves.
Brave and the Bold, for instance wasn't nearly as popular as it would've been only ten years or so back, because your average casual comic-book fan and everyday joes were wanting their Batman serious, ala Nolan. But DCs still all like "Look at me, I'm Batman, I'm wacky, I'm below you". Audiences didn't respond so well. In fact, it seems to me that the only people who responded to that show were the die-hard fanboys. Even kids were put off by it.

I think this is awesome! Let's see a comic based on George Reeves' Superman!

I liked that they kept Cesar Romero's 'stache.

The 'tache is a nice touch. I love how they did the same in the Axel Braun porno.
I'm wondering if this is gonna be a part of the New 52? It would be more interesting to fill up their multiverse with universes that we're familiar with instead of just gender or race reversal universes.

O! I just realised what lla this is about:
They got the rights back!
And here I am thinking that they just thought this was a good idea, out of the blue. It's not a good idea, but they're just doing what they've not been allowed to do for the last half-century.
Next up?
DVD!!!!!!!!!
Sweet.

My god... someone kill Dan Didio and his cronies now, please?

This is crap. The series was stupid, but it's a classic so it's regarded with nostalgic acceptance... this on the other hand is DC TRYING to cash in on something that was once good.

Shit Editorial team in DC...all around. Bastards aim to mess the entire DCU up.

[frick] it.. just cancel every book except for the bat titles and go with that.

I'm really more curious as to what they hope to accomplish with this.. Nostalgia?! Homage? Batman is real bc of how dark it is.. Thank you Tim Burton, the Bman owes you one!

Does this not cost them a fortune having to pay the actors for their likeness? Like the reason Amy Adams's princess Giselle from Enchanted is not in the Disney Princess brand is cause they would have to pay Adams every time they used her image

Theodora, unfortunately Adam West just like most performers of the time simply doesn't get a piece of the merchandise and they don't need to get the actor's permission. Same thing with the original cast of Star Trek - they have no say on how their likenesses are used (although Shatner and Nimoy apparently got that right as part of their feature negotiations decades later).

Comics as a whole have become incredibly grimdark, it'd be nice to take a break from that even if its not canon.

Nothing wrong with a little bit of silly fun.

This is awesome! The 66 Batman was great. Older fans like myself will love this as well as kids. There is no kid friendly Batman anymore. Let Batman exist is all his incarnations.

NO, NO, NO, the 60's Batman sucked, and sucked hard! The fact that they're doing this makes me wonder what the hell is going on at DC these days. Adam West was the worst Batman of all time, in fact that whole cast can go suck it for all I care. NBC, and Adam West were the ones responsible for that train wreck of a tv show that turned Batman into an f-ing homo hippie to begin with! Bob Kane never once agreed with what was being done to his character, which is why during the 70's they made Batman so dark in the comics that it was scary. Also, thatnks to that ass-clown (Adam West) the 1960's was the lowest selling decade in Batman comics history, still is. I can not believe DC is this stupid and this desperate for sales....just, NO!

@DragonBorn, the 60's Batman TV Series is the longest running live action Batman series ever. In face, it's the only live action Batman TV series.

@TheIconicMan ...have you ever seen the 1960's Catwoman before? this is NOT Nolan's Catwoman, but I can see how you'd get confused, since Nolan did his best to make his Catwoman look like the 1960's version
