Zack Snyder Promises "Poignancy" Along With Action In MAN OF STEEL

The director had a few words to add to the presentation of the brand new Man Of Steel trailer at CinemaCon yesterday. Snyder lays out his vision for the "greatest superhero", and what he hopes viewers take away from the experience when the movie hits theaters.

As anyone who watched last night's new Man Of Steel trailer (everyone, right?) can attest to, it really was an almost perfect blend of action and drama, with reports of fans even tearing up at certain parts (steady on guys!) Anyway, that's just the trailer, director Zack Snyder hopes to deliver that mix in spades when the movie opens. Addressing the crowd at CinemaCon on Tuesday he revealed that his ultimate goal with this reinvention of Superman was to "find a poignancy to add to the familiar story".

"I wanted the movie to be a big movie-going experience, full of action, full of emotion and full of the biggest super hero in the world. I wanted to give to the cinemas of the world a big, giant 'movie' movie. I've been a big fan of the character my whole life. He is the greatest super hero. There's no competition between super heroes, but if there was, he'd win."

Lofty ambitions, but I think we can all agree -- if the final product lives up to everything we've seen from it so far Man Of Steel is going to be something very special indeed.

No, that's an attempt to start a Marvel/Dc war by deliberately misquoting Snyder. This is what he actually said and how he said it.

Of course Supes is the greatest. He is the original which all others were based on, inspired by and compared to.

what about Heracles? he has superpowers, he has iconic suit and he is 3000 years older... i guess Heracles is "the biggest one there is"

It seems to be general.., but the couple seconds of Costner shocked me and was great! The action is there and the visuals look great!

PS--> He throws a punch. Yes he throws a punch.., in a Zack Snyder film. :-P I always loved the old animated shorts that had him punch things left and right. We will get Superman punching giant robots one day.., oh yes.., we.., you thought I was going full Mike Myers there didn't ya'? Earn your pay!

That trailer was, by far, the most epic trailer I have ever seen. This will be the best superhero movie of all time and will be well over a billion in sales.

Trailer looked good, but still really hard for me to get excited about Superman's origin story.

If the tone if the movie matches the trailer, I will be one happy camper. Zack sounds like he has the respect for Superman more than some love of the Donner films (like Brian Singer, for instance), and that's a good thing.

Not really excited about it. Its a case of been there/done that with Superman on the big screen. I'd be more pumped if this was a FLASH, WONDER WOMAN, or AQUAMAN movie.

@rocky Thank you for the honesty man! I'm a DC fan first but I get all jacked up for the Marvel movies, no reason Marvel fans can't look forward to this cause its gonna be epic. All hail the king! Supes is back!

I enjoy all comic book movies that are well made, i really don't sit there and think to myself [frick] DC or [frick] MARVEL. That is, until i reach any dc or marvel related articles' comment section on this site. Just because you enjoy one thing over another, does not mean that you should force your enjoyment onto others. Live and let live.....they're just movies...and this is from a film student with a burning passion for all things "cinema"

I'm a big Marvel fan, but that trailer was EPIC! Still looking forward to IM3 the most, but this is a close second, along with Star Trek.

It's gonna be an awesome summer for movie fans.

Good work, only the lens flare at first glimpse comes off as a motion blur. Still looks top notch by the way.

No idea why people have to polarize everything, MAN OF STEEL AND IRON MAN 3 AREN'T COMPETING!

Iron Man 3 fans should be more worried about Star Trek than Man of Steel. Star Trek comes out two weeks after Iron Man, Man of Steel comes out a month and 11 days after.

I really hope this meets my expectations. Last time I was this excited for a film, it was The Dark Knight Rises, and I really disliked it the first time I saw it (my opinion's softened since then but it's still very disappointing compared to the other two).

This does look amazing though.
