Is J. August Richards Playing Rage In AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D?

Many assumed the former Angel alum must be playing Luke Cage when his character was seen performing superhuman feats in the recent promos, but a (possible) clue in the brief Marvel bumper at the start of the new trailer may reveal his true identity..

Luke Cage? former UGO editor Chris Radtke doesn't think so.

Of course this is far from proof, but if taken as a clue to the character's identity then it does lean towards Richards playing Elvin Daryl Haliday, a.k.a. Rage -- a Marvel hero with powers not unlike the Hulk (he gets stronger the angrier he gets) who was at one point a member of both the New Warriors and The Avengers. What do you guys think? Sound off below.

Luke Cage is probably more high profile, and likely to appear in a movie, even if not a solo one. So, makes sense.

He has a better shot at being Rage than Luke Cage.

No wonder Coulson looks pissed in the trailer. HE WANTS THE ORIGINAL NOT THE BOOTLEG.

Iron Man does NOT approve.

Bumper never lies, he's Rage.

If I were a betting man I say yes to this. It makes more sense for what the TV world will be able to do and shines the light on some even lesser known characters. Richards doesn't really look the part of a Luke Cage any way.

this is the most exciting news I've heard about in months.....RAGE!!!!

That works. This could become a great outlet for lesser-known characters.

According to Wikipedia:

"Elvin's exposure to unknown biochemical radioactive wastes gave him superhuman strength, speed, stamina, durability, and resistance to physical injury. He becomes exponentially stronger with applied force, such as hitting. He is able to use his enhanced strength to leap great distances. In his first appearance, Rage was shown outrunning a speeding subway train, but this ability has not been used again."

I think Rage has always been in the Marvel Logo.
imnotahero
imnotahero - 5/14/2013, 9:03 AM
They use that same logo on EVERY Marvel Universe film. They all have the same generic looking characters. They only did speciality logos for X-men and the first Hulk movie.

@imnotahero If you look closely, you'll see that they actually use different characters every time.

Not all of the individual logo frames change, but many do. I think this was first apparent to me on X-MEN 3.

I would call this a definite with J. August being in the Whedonverse inner circle and the fact that the role sounds fairly close to the Gunn character he played on Angel.

@MarkJulian- No, they don't. They used to do that with the FOX movies but the MCU has been using one logo the whole time.

It's crazy considering he was just on Arrow a few weeks ago.. I'm expecting David Boreanez and Eliza Dushku to show up on SHIELD too.

I've got a strong suspicion that with Disney now owning ILM and the continually decreasing cost of CGI, that the show will probably be able to look like an upgraded version of Fringe. Now to find out who or what the fire creature that's next to Coulson is.

Too bad, Luke Cage would have been better. I guess he might be too big of a character to use on tv. Marvel probably wants to keep the option of a Luke Cage movie open.

Well, Rage would be great if the rest of the New Warriors follow in his footsteps.

Introducing the New Warriors here could be great build up to Civil War. Have the disaster in Stanford happen in the season finale, leading up to avengers 2 or 3 or 4.

It's a stretch,Rage is huge, this dude ain't big enough to be Rage or Luke Cage for that matter. Maybe he's playing an unknown black dude to named at a later time.

I've been scouring the Marvel encyclopaedia and I'm getting nothing on who he might be. Rage seems rational though.
