As much as i am an x-men and wolverine fan, i feel that this movie is going to tank, boxoffice wise. I mean it has to compete with Man of Steel.

I have feeling this is the last Wolverine solo movie for Jackman(and for us for a while)

@Destruktor2k

Why will it have to compete with MOS, since it comes more than a month after it?

Loving the artwork.

But this isn't a great way to promote the film. Nobody has any idea who those characters are and obscuring them more is no help at all.

@ Young Thaos

Is there any confirmation that Viper is a mutant? We know she plays around with toxins and cause people to hallucinate. That means she may appear "snake like" but does not mean she is a mutant.

i have a feeling this movie is going to be so much better than iron man 3...honestly it won't be hard for it to be a better movie. man of steel will be the best superhero movie of the year but wolverine will be the best marvel movie

anyone thinking this movie will flop is clearly an idiot. general audiences love the x-men movies and even the crappy ones make a lot of money. also most general audiences don't give a shit about x-men not being part of the overrated disney/marvel series. this movie has a great director and premise, and after first class im sure fox and co can deliver on a great action movie that has at least some level of substance...something that most marvel movies lack

people still coming out with the "I hope it flops so it goes back to marvel" rubbish, yup because of them we've seen different characters on the big screen e.g. daredevil, ghost rider, fantastic 4, spiderman, the x-men etc, If Marvel Studios had the rights to every character you wouldn't see all of them you wouldn't have an Iron Man trilogy, an ant-man movie or a guardians of the galaxy movie, Marvel have acquired daredevil and ghost rider, you're not going to see those characters in titular movies for a long time, which might not have been the case under another studio. So in a way its actually better for different studios to have the rights to a multitude of characters.

@TheVigilante Im a fan of all cbm movies as well. If a movie is good its good, i could care less what studio makes it. It pisses me off that people like or don't like a movie simply because of who owns the rights. some DC fans and Disney/marvel fans just fight with one another and attack everyone else, its quite annoying.

@Ocelot Ikr, at this rate it will be a long time before we see a daredevil or ghost rider movie and neither of those characters would even or should even fit into disney/marvel universe. disney/marvel will never have the balls to make a daredevil movie as cool looking as joe carnahan and fox were planning.

this movie is still a few months away from release. intense marketing will be starting around now. plus its a wolverine movie and thus part of an established and popular franchise. this movie will not flop

yep, Daredevil isn't getting a movie within the mcu, shame as the character would have most likely gotten one with fox, who knows it might have been a better adaptation than the first one. I wouldn't be surprised if we see Matt Murdock, but not Daredevil

The Wolverine is well placed to play very well through the month of August as the last "Event film" of the summer.

This is the first FOX Marvel film to take advantage of 3D ticket prices so that will pump up the BO.

Had XMFC been in 3D, it would have done about the same BO as Captain America.

It has 2 or 3 weeks to play on IMAX screens before Elysium drops and that film may not be big enough to get The Wolverine off most of the screens.

End of the day,I see The Wolverine finishing around 180 million like the Non 3D first Wolverine film.

Bare in mind that the late July through August period film slate is full of a lot of "meh" and outright sh.t.

R.I.P.D,RED2,Kick Ass 2, they all make The Wolverine look like Raiders of The Lost Ark.

anyone who thinks this movie will flop needs help.

the last Wolverine film made 375 million even though it wasn't even good. the last X-men film did the same numbers, was the most critically acclaimed superhero film of the year and acheived that without a single marketable cast member. (rememmber, this was b4 Fassbender and J.Law blew up). not to mention it was extremely rushed and coming off 2 (critically) bad x-men movies.

now, since the X-men franchise has been redeemed by First Class and Wolverine had the most memmorable cameo of the year in the film its easy to beleive the majority of the audience who gave that movie a chance will do the same for his stand alone. combine that with the fact that slapping Jackman's name on an action movie is enough to bring in atleast 100 million (the films budget btw) then its a pretty easy bet that this movies a guarenteed finnancial sucess.

assuming its not god awful of course but based on Mangold and McQuarrie being the director and writer its highly unlikely that will be the case.

@youngthanos, i assume thats directed at me. so lets correct a few things there.

1. First Class didn't flop in the states. a domestic flop would imply it didn't generate enough money in the US to contribute to it being an overall finnacial sucess.

the movie made about 375 million and its getting a sequel, so you're incorrect there.

2. i agree facts are facts. so lets look at some numbers....

X-men First Class 2011: 88% (via RT)
Thor 2011: 77%
Captain America The First Avenger: 79%

so, fact is. the movie was not only a finnacial sucess but it was a critical sucess as well. could the film of made more? sure. but i dont get paid a percentage of any movies i watch so i could careless how much it makes. as long as it makes enough to get a sequel (assuming its a franchise film) then i'm more then satisfied with its revenue.

i honestly dont know why you're counting their money when you're not getting any of it. the only payment i get is seeing a good movie. and XMFC was easily the best CBM of 2011. and from the way things are shaping up this year, The Wolverines only competition is Man of Steel.
