M. Night Shyamalan Wants To Make "Unbreakable 2"!

M. Night Shyamalan Wants To Make "Unbreakable 2"!

Thats right folks, we may yet see a sequel to the greatest superhero movie ever made..not based on a comic book!

The ever reliable MTV folks caught up with Shyamalan at a recent press event, and even though hes deep into production on "Avatar: The Last Airbender", they asked him the question on every Mr Glass fans lips, "Are you considering a sequel?"

“I am,” revealed Shyamalan. “I don’t know where all the parties are in the world. Sam [Jackson] is like ‘Mr. Comic Book’ now. And Bruce, I don’t know what he’s up to. I don’t know where Disney’s at in their head and what kind of movies they’re up for making. But yeah, I love that movie.”

This isn’t the first time that Shyamalan has enthused about continuing the “Unbreakable” mythos. Last year, he revealed that he’d like to start working on it immediately, but that he also wanted to make sure the timing was right.

“I want a story to pop into my head that is organic and expressive of who I am,” he said at the time. “You know, these are all kinds of journals of where I am emotionally, so it’s kind of hard. I’m kind of trying to go back to the journal that existed in 1999 for me. But I know me: As soon as I give up on it is when the idea will come to me.”

Sam Jackson has also expressed interest in another movie, so that really only leaves Brucie! Surely he wouldnt pass up the chance to revisit such a great role? Personally i think "Unbreakable" is a damn near masterpiece, lets hope this happens.

I liked this film very much because when I first saw it I didnt know anything about it at all. I rented it. I enjoyed the performances from Sam Jackson and Bruce Willis and I found it to be very subtle. I never expected it to be a comic bookesssk movie. I found myself trying to figure out what the hell was going on between Sam and Bruce because I was expecting anything except that outside of the box comic book story that ends up un raveling itself at the end of the movie. And then how Bruce's Character begins to believe what Sam Jackson and his son have been telling him and he begins to accomplish amazing things by accepting who he is and embracing his gifts and finally putting them to the test and a huge sense of accomplishment on behalf of Bruces Chracter. I am definetly open to another Unbreakable Film maybe another similar scenario with different actors and different story.

Every Time I have envisioned who would be the one to play Nick Furry for some reason Bruce Willis always pops into my mind.

This is Nick Furry Yippy Kia Aye MotherF#CKER!!!!

More like:
1)Unbreakable
2)Shattered
3)Adamant

I just don't know if a sequel will add anything more to the story. My hope is he finds something that will make us all go, Wow and click with a comic book revelation. Willis would have to be in it, commited.

Did anyone stop and consider that Shyamalan is doing this because he's run out of 'twisty' ideas for his films (...that and the fact that his last couple of flicks TOTALLY BLEW!)? It sounds like he's getting desperate and is trying to dredge up the past.

So what's the 'twisty' ending to this sequel - David Dunn really ISN'T a superhero and actually drowns trying to save the mermaid chick from 'Lady in the Water' from the clutches of Elijah Price, escaped from jail and hell-bent on revenge? Or better yet, Dunn wakes up on the train and finds out that the first movie was nothing but a dream...

Its just Bruce Willis whole demeaner the way he carries himself in his action flicks that would make him an awesome Colonel Furry.
Nick Furry has to deal with the government, the super heroes, he has to take care of them and tell them what to do and on top of it all the man has to run shield. And he has to keep a leveled head even when the shit is hitting the fan and to me is seems that Bruce Willis has always been playing a form of a renegade Nick Furry in most of his Die Hard Flicks and as Nick Furry he wouldnt be necessarily be requiered to do a lot of action scenes but what ever they can throw at Bruce he would make it very believable because Nick Furry is the ultimate John Mclane.

Shyamalan needs to go back to his earlier work to see what made his movies good! They suck now. He puts too much of himself and personal beliefs (extremist environmentalism in the Happening?) into the new stuff instead of telling basic stories. Of coarse he shouldn't make a sequel to Sixth Sense, grif. But something like Unbreakable could continue on with different adventures.

I liked the first up until the end.

A comic book villain is not always exactly the opposite of the hero. Sometimes they are strangely similar.

Look at Doc Doom and Mr. Fantastc.

Look at Sabretooth and Wolverine.

Spider-man and Venom.

The list goes on and on.

Unbreakable sucked big time. The movie was soo freaking predictable. And what's with Shyamalan and water (Unbreakable, Lady in Water, Signs)? Really I think this was one of the worst movies I've ever seen in theaters, and I LOVE hero movies.

I thought it was really slow but I liked it. I thought it was a giant tease that would make for a badass sequel since we have the base for the characters and they have been thrown into their "superhero" roles.

I really liked the unbreakable, unlike his other movies i didn't find it predicable at all. However, I don't want to see a second one...it just doesn't make sense. What would the plot element be? He already knows he has powers, just watching him be a hero adds nothing to the story.

It'll probably suck, "Unbreakable" is one of those movies that shouldn't be touched. Should remain a stand alone film. Like "The Crow". Or "The Boondock Saints". Going back to get really aged cast members and do what exactly? Follow Captain Parka around saving lives? Have his kid inherit the "super gene"? Whatever he would plan would just scream of a desperate glory grab.

"Unbreakable" is a good movie and going back to it would most likely hurt the films aura of originality. Dude should just leave it alone, in my opinion, and stop going backwards and just make better movies than he is now. Frankly, if Shamalamadingdong peaked that early in his career then he should pack it in.

joslezio85 - Yes, I know, "All Saints Day" it's been in post-production limbo since '04/'05. I'll still watch it if it actually comes out but like "The Crow" sequels it's just one of those stories that is unnecessary to expand upon.

As much as I loved Unbreakable, I really don't want to see a sequel to it. The movie featured a self-contained story, and everything was neatly wrapped up in the end. It didn't leave that open door to a sequel that would give him something to build on. IF this is made, it will probably turn into one of those sequels that is basically a rehashing of the original story. It would also require Willis and Jackson to have any chance of success.

And Spidey209: thanks for posting that Chappele sketch. Hilarious!

Howlett04... you sonava bitch. You crack me up LOL :P

Teabag- I'm with you man, shut Schnider up!!!

And Kev, don't worry, you don't have to feel different and alone as if you were a ginger or something... I too didn't like Unbreakable that much the first time around. But it gets better every time i see it. It truly is one of the best comic book movies of all time.

As for the sequel, i fear it will suck because the brilliance of the first was the initiation and discovery. The twist was also gravy on momma's mashies. BUT, nowadays, Shakalakalak is to "twist" focused and would unnecessarily bring yet another twisted turd, but this time tarnishing his already established trophy. In laymen's terms, he's gonna pull a Goyer a la Blade Trinity.

Nah, i disagree. I was actually a bit of a Shamayalan fan right up until that turn the Happening..that really had no redeeming features. I enjoyed all of his other movies on some level..yes even Lady In The Water! Giammatis performance was amazing..even if the story was nuts! The Village was great..again until he just had to put a twist in it. I like his style and respect that he writs and directs his movies and at least tries to do something original. Hes just terrible at finishing his stories, hence relying on the twist.
