Simon Pegg Has A Message For STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS Haters: "F*ck You"

Not anyone who didn't like the movie you understand, but specifically the hardcore Trekkies who voted J.J. Abrams' recent sequel as the worst Star Trek flick of all time! Read on for Pegg's comments in full..

At the Star Trek 2013 con's 'One Trek Mind Live' panel in Las Vegas earlier this month, fans in attendance voted Star Trek Into Darkness the worst Trek movie so far -- yes, worse than Generations, Insurrection, Nemesis, and The Final bloody Frontier. They also voted Galaxy Quest (a Trek homage/parody with absolutely no canonical ties to the franchise) higher..so perhaps it's best not to delve too deeply into their logic, or lack thereof. Anyway, this didn't sit too well with Simon Pegg, who plays Chief Engineer "Scotty" in the movie. He doesn't hold back in an interview with the Huffinton Post, and then likens the reaction to Into Darkness to fans of an indie band tiring of them when they get too popular.

"It's asinine, you know? It's ridiculous. And frustrating, as well, because a lot of hard work and love went into that movie, and all JJ wanted to do was make a film that people really enjoyed. So, to be subject to that level of sort of, like, crass f**king ire, I just say, 'F**k you'. [It's like] when you tire of an indie band that you love because they get a number one single.. Star Trek Into Darkness is the most successful Star Trek movie ever made. It is, in terms of what it took at the box office and how many people went to see it. More people saw that film than any iteration of Star Trek that existed before. That is probably slightly annoying to some Star Trek fans - which I totally understand."

Do you agree that STID was the worst so far? Or is Pegg spot on with his reaction? Sound off below.

Into Darkness was awesome. It was a really good film. The only people that hate it are the true hardcore Star Trek fans of the originals.

Geez, I disliked the movie, but I'll respect people who enjoyed it because I respect people who have different opinions than I do.

Man, here Simon Pegg just comes off like a dick. "[frick] you" to the haters? Really? What a douche.

For the record, I do agree STID is the worst Trek film though. Pegg is just sour grapes.

So people didnt like it - Maybe...get over it?

Alot of love and hard work was put into the movie? So?
Does that mean Shatner or Patrick Stewart should come out and say 'F*ck you' to the haters that thought one of their films was the worst?

His Scottish accent was sh*t as well

Hes a douche cause he said F**k his haters? What do you want him to say? I have the same reply for anyone who dislikes me for no good reason. Im glad he came out and said it cause a lot of people would’ve bit their tongue in public and said it behind closed doors.

He says JJ tried making the best film possible, but what were the filmmakers behind the more disliked Trek films doing? Trek fans spoke and Simon Pegg got butt-hurt, simple as that.

Pegg wasn't complaining about people who hated on HIM, but people who hated the movie. Say "[frick] you" to people who dislike you, not to people who have a different opinion about a movie than you do. geez.

@Charlie2094

Your comparison of IM3 would only be used in this sense against other IM films, not any marvel film. Thats like saying Star Trek was voted the worst Sci-fi film ever, but its not, we're only talking about the individual franchises here.

More people saw it, making it the most successful in terms of BO but also making more people available to vote it the worst Trek film. Its a simple case of numbers.

But like i say, he's mad because people voted it the worst, but that wouldnt warrant Shatner or Patrick coming out and saying the that stuff if people voted theirs the worst

Please read the article if you're going to comment..Pegg is specifically addressing the "fans" who voted STID the worst Trek movie of all time. That's not just having a problem with the movie, it's saying bleedin Generations was better than it! Look, opinions schminions..by any type of critical standards that's not true! I'd say [frick] Off is a pretty good response to that sort of bullshit.

Abrams resurrected the franchise from it's grave and has made Star Trek somewhat relevant again, it was in limbo before then and no one cared, though it will never ever reach the popularity or have the widespread appeal of Star Wars, Abrams did good.
DoctorWeird
DoctorWeird - 8/22/2013, 3:47 AM
Sorry but if Star Treks fans vote it as the worst ever then its saying something. Maybe not that it was the worst, but even saying that it sure as hell could have been something more.

Star Trek always had its pratical effects and through each generation it had that cheesy way of doing things whilst keeping a straight face and now JJ is trying to make it a serious epic sci-fi franchise again. Simply put, with the new direction it's taking, i think they can quite rightly vote it as the worst if they want

Screw those Trekkie fans, JJ Abrams was the best thing to happen to Star Trek since Patrick Stewart. He breathed life into a dead corpse of a franchise. Simon Pegg gets it and that's why he's the man, he doesn't care about being PC he'll defend his friend's works

Well put as always Simon! Beautiful movie for this generation! Wished they would have paralleled with a cliffhanger(Kirk dead 'til the 3rd), but still a good time.

Good for you, Simon. The man has a right to express his opinion as much as anyone on this site, even doing it publicly. I agree that the movie was done very well, and the twists that it incorporated were thoughtful and entertaining. Trekkers also have a right to express themselves, but that poll was an obvious way for them to say how much they disliked the deviations from previous works. I for one do not want to go to the movies to see rehashed material. JJ Abrams has done a great job so far. I can't wait to see how much complaining comes up for the next Star Wars movie. I'm sure all of the Star Wars purists will have some negative reactions no matter what JJ puts into it.

But instead of a shark, it'll be a caucasian male, and half way through the film, he'll reveal himself as being a shark....but everyone will have known for months

Into Darkness was an a great action movie, if the real fans of Trek and I consider myself on of them want a real trek movie then wait in vein my friends, Star Trek is a series the films were an answer to the aging cast of a cancelled show that gained interest from re-runs, the films are usually terrible, I WANT A NEW SERIES not more movies. Just as long as it isn't Voyager-esqe, that show was aweful
