The actor, who portrayed the Green Goliath in the classic Incredible Hulk tv series, feels that because he actually played the character himself as opposed to mo-cap, that he was able to show a different kind of emotion than the later CGI incarnations..

All of our big screen incarnations of The Hulk have utilized motion capture to bring a completely CGI character to life, while of course sticking with a human actor (Eric Bana, Edward Norton and Mark Ruffalo..so far) to play the big fella's alter ego, Bruce Banner. But before that The Hulk himself was played by Lou Ferrigno, under a few layers of green makeup and prosthetics, in the CBS television show between 1977 and 1982, while Bill Bixby handled Banner duty. It seems that because of this, Ferrigno feels he brought us the best possible version of the character yet. “I was the first to bring superhero muscles to the screen and to make it more believable. There’s still people who prefer to watch the old show over the newer things because it’s real, not CGI,” the former bodybuilder tells The LA Times. "The Hulk was the beginning of me, a platform as an actor to grow. I don't think anybody else can play the Hulk like I could. I was able to show emotions even with all of the makeup. The entire run of the show is the best iteration of the Hulk ever, because it got things right, it wasn't fun or super, it was a greek tragedy in a weekly format.

Well technically, he's right. He didn't do motion capture, he actually played the hulk! Norton's Hulk is my favorite one though. He was savage!

I'll say he's right in that none of the actors who played Bruce Banner could play the Hulk like he could, but then again they didn't really even play the Hulk, except Ruffalo, but even Ruffalo didn't play the Hulk like Lou.

Then again Lou definitely couldn't play Bruce (David) Banner like any of the actor's who did.

It's kind of a moot point there's nothing.to compare it with. It's apples and oranges.

Now I bet The Rock would give Lou a run for his money.

Except Ruffalo didn't act as the Hulk jim. Sure, there was motion cap but that's nothing compared to the dedication of actually making yourself green and doing your own stunts.

Go Lou! All the haters, did you even read the damn thing? He said the CGI couldn't replicate the emotion an actor can, is all. That being said, I always loved Lou's Hulk, and though it might look silly, I want to see him lined up with the Avengers lol

i think batista's drax will give the classic hulk a run for his money!

i hate when celebs come out and say shit like this. "it was way better back in my day because.." Stallone did the same thing "real muscles!" apparently these guys think taking steroids gives you "real" muscle.

I would like a smaller version of the hulk done in movies though. not saying he should be human sized but pretty close. to me that makes him seem even stronger! like all this strength is coming from a smaller package. 'cause when he's so big it's like of course he's going to be that strong!

While I liked Ruffalo's hulk, I didn't like the ape movements. Norton's hulk showed facial expressions of pain, sadness, anger and confusion. I'm sure Ruffalo's hulk will do the same if he gets his own solo film though.

They look so much alike that I doubt everyone would catch it at first. I once read that Hugh was interested in doing a biopic about Bixby.

But certainly prefer him with CGI as done in the Avengers.

Lou......is the one I grew up with.......but Nortons Hulk was the best....but bill bixby's Banner is the best.
