From Kitty Pryde to Tara Chase -- it seems Ellen Page will get her spy on as the protagonist of Queen And Country for Fox after she's reprised her Mutant role for Bryan Singer's X-flick. According to Variety the studio has been looking for a franchise for the young actress for a while now, and this has the potential set Page up as a sort of female Jason Bourne. I'm not familiar with Greg Rucka's comic series (which is set in the modern world of Britain's MI6), but I'm hearing that Page is seen as quite a strange choice to play the tough-as-nails Chase..though I would steer anyone thinking that to her work in Hard Candy! Peter Chernin is producing through his Chernin Entertainment banner, along with Jenno Topping. John Rogers is writing the script.

Next you'll try to tell me Ror isn't really a mailman from Boston. By the way Ror, if Cavill is from Jersey do you consider him to be English, or some other demonym (sort of how we New Yorkers consider Americans from NEW Jersey as second-class citizens)?

@Rex: To your point, I hear that some English people view the Welsh and the Irish as second-class citizens.

A really talented actress.
Hard Candy is one of my favourite movies and she was so so so great in that.

I've always wanted her to have more action roles.
She's a good choice for this!

I'm British and I really don't care that she'll be an American playing a Brit.

I can't for the life of me understand how the Scots and Northern Irish even put up with being British citizens. The Welsh have bigger problems, like how they speak a longer, more complicated form of Old Entish.

I had a feeling you weren't American, Cherry. Not nearly rude enough. I suspected Canadian, though. Maybe we should all have little flags next to our names so we Muricans can tell who the evil foreigners are. Hey, did you name yourself after that Ash song? (I think I'm the only American who's ever heard of them.)

Brits doing yank accents is one thing..but the other way around always sounds a bit off imo. I mean Natalie Portman was great in V For Vendetta for example, but that accent..woah.

The comic is not at all like Bond or Bourne. It does for spy stories what movies like Platoon did for war movies. It's set in a very real world seeming environment where spies are seen as useful but ultimately disposable tools by their governments and generally end up traumatized or dead or at least generally unhappy. It's a great series heavily "inspired" by a 1980's filmed on video tape BBC series called "Sandbaggers" I think it;d be so much better as a TV show though because it's all about characters and how they react to the action more than it is the actual action. If they make it so it works as an action movie it will kind of gut what the comic (and a couple of tie in novels) had going for it. Still...best wishes to them. I'll go see it.

For those who don't know the comic go buy a TPB it's just fantastic! Rucka is awesome. She's not a bad choice as long as she can do a british accent.

I agree with DaveT in thinking that the comics would be better material for a high budget TV show. And while it's been a while since I read the comics and I do like Ellen Page a lot I really don't think she'd be the best choice for the role. We'll see.

I can really tell she has aged a bit after all these years, looking at recent pics and videos.

This sounds really interesting. The brilliant thing is no one would expect a girl like Ellen Page to be a government agent.

That would give her an advantage against her enemies.

@Ror That's one of the big reasons why I would have a problem with an American actor playing James Bond.

I'm American, and sometimes just for fun I trick people into thinking I'm visiting the states by speaking with an accent lol. And doing an English accent is one of the harder ones. I have a deep voice, so when I speak with an English accent I tailor it after Jude Law.

Sometimes it goes from sounding English to Australian though.

It goes both ways. Even the Brits that do amazing American accents like Hugh Laurie and Cary Elwes don't sound like they're from anywhere. It's a generic American accent that doesn't really exist. It's probably the same problem with American actors. RDJ and Gwyneth Paltrow can do received pronunciation, but probably not a genuine regional accent.

I'd like to hear more bad American accents. They're pretty funny. Most of Monty Python did lousy yank accents.
