Actors are constantly putting themselves forward for superhero roles, and obviously that rarely (if ever) ends up with them getting the gig come casting time -- but it is a good way to gauge fan reaction at the same time, and if the right people happen to be paying attention...well, who knows? The latest actor to name drop a superhero is Glee's Harry Shum Jr., who reveals to MTV Geek that he would love nothing more than to suit up as Batman's former protege, Nightwing. "I love it," Shum tells the site. "I mean, I grew up on comic books and superheroes, so right now it's the rage. But I've been wanting to play him since I was a kid, so it'd be a dream come true... I'm game, man! Put me in a super hero movie, put me in a Star Wars movie, and I can die happy." Makes sure he gets Star Wars in there while he's at it! So whaddaya think CBMers? Can you see it?

Dick Grayson is right next to John Smith for the "Whitest American Name" award. I wouldn't be able to take an Asian seriously. Then again, they gave him asian-styled hair in AC.

Being of Asian decent has nothing to do with one's surname. Most folks can grasp that concept anymore.

We gotta see Nightwing, sooner or later, right?
In fact, if we're gonna have elements of Batman's army from Dark Knight Returns (the Mutants and Sons of Batman, etc.) I don't see why they can't just throw in a shit-ton of easter eggs of Nightwing, Red Hood, Red Robin, Spoiler, Huntress, etc. Marching or riding horses, in front of the Sons of Batman and right behind Batman and Carrie Kelly, right? Why not? Give us some fan service and the promise that we could see any of these characters pop up in any future Batman spin-off.

Anything that gives me an excuse to salivate over the potential of Batman/Superman is a good article by me. Never seen an episode of glee in my life. Doesn't matter, it's vaguely related to the new Bat-flick. I'll take it.

Not racist but if they wanted Dick Grayson to be am Asian kid they would. I don't like race trading for comicbook characters I'm sorry but like comics are drawn unlike books where characters can be reimagined. Or chrachters like James bond who could be anyone as long as they are British. I'm all for idris Elba as 007 but not Michael b Jordan for Johnny storm if you catch my drift

Books typically describe their main characters' appearance in detail. How are comics and books different, as far as reimagining characters' appearance?

For the record, I'm fine with changing characters' race, religion, height, gender, etc. So long as the story works, I'm good.

I don't think making Dick Grayson Asian or even Hispanic would hurt the story in anyway. He has nothing in his ethnicity that is pertinent to the storyline.

That said, i don't agree with Michael B. Jordan playing the Human Torch because that would change the whole dynamic of the story and raise too many hurdles. Do you make Sue black as well? If not, is he adopted? I don't like the idea...

Hurdles? Just add a montage at the beginning, explaining how they became siblings, along with a catchy tune. It's worked before.

Wait...Nightwing was at one time Robin. And this guy is Asian. I don't see how that could work. So not only would the flying graysons be Asian, but now Bruce Wayne would have a lil Asian kid with him. So I think the chance of Batman all of a sudden having an Asian sidekick and Wayne having adopted a Asian kid....its pretty much like ignoring that fact that people are to stupid to know Clark is Superman.

I like it! I think he fits the character just fine. They can always say that his father is white or whatever. Besides if you know any Asian people you'd know their parents love giving them white names. My physics teacher had FOB parents and they named him Kurtis. Swear to God.

Yes as noted by another above, the use of 'fancies' in the title in referring to an actor who comes from a tv show that had a heavy cast of homosexual actors and a large dose of pro-homosexuality story lines, is clearly a 'nudge nudge, wink wink' by Ror. Unwittingly homophobic, actually, much like most of the internet, where the self-proclaimed open minded are the first to become defensive and resort to name calling.
Is this man a homosexual? I don't know, nor do I care. Would his portrayal of Nightwing invite further similar "Batmans gay" humor? Apparently.

What's wrong with him being Asian, tho? Lots of white people have been adopting Asian kids for years. And they make great little acrobats, so it makes perfect sense. Evil white people adopted him for the welfare benefits, then sold him to circus people when they lost the venues, where he was 'servant' to the clowns until he showed promise as a flying Grayson... some serious image issues, not to mention the sexual identity issues, and clown makeup...it's perfect!

Nightwing can be Hispanic or Asian (even though he clearly is not) but Johnny Storm can't be Black because Johnny clearly is not?

Biased a little? There's no difference between either thing happening.

This reminds me of that Cracked Article.

Actually, it's almost word for word one of the defenses floating around about Sue having to be Black (even though I grew up with non-White relatives in a multiracial family that included Blacks) because Johnny is.

People are pointing right to the "But this character's race will change, too!" observation without bothering to explain why it's an actual problem in the first place ...
