The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.

A new trailer should be online tomorrow at 9am EST! The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug hits theaters this December.

Hope it's better than the first disaster. With how much I loved Lord of the Rings, I couldn't believe I hated the first hobbit film. But man it was bad lol.

1st movie was terrible, so my expectations are significantly lowered for the next two movies. I'm pretty much only watching the next movie for Martin Freeman as Bilbo and Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug/The Necromancer.

I looked at spoilers, and though I won't say what they are specifically, they're going to keep drastically changing and rape the characters from the book unnecessarily to fit Peter Jackson's "vision." Makes me wish Jackson had just stopped with the 3 LOTR movies.

The only problem I had with the first one was the slow pacing at times. But seriously, the whole first hour was mainly in Bilbo's hobbit hole. Other than that it was great. But it does look like this one might have some of the pacing problems that the first one had. I doubt the third one will since the whole movie is most likely to be the Battle of Five Armies. That should be cool.

What I don't understand is why the banner says "From the Director of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy" and not something like "The Second Part to the Prequels of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy". I've met people who didn't even know that The Hobbit was a book first. It leaves me to wonder if there are some casual movie watchers who didn't even know that The Hobbit was linked anyway to LOTR.

@gusto- Sir Gusto, are you mad?

I loved the first hobbit film, although I do wince at character changes and the goblin fight scene was a little too "cartoony" for me. Half slap-stick, half violent battle. I prefer say... 3/4 violence and 1/4 humor in my battle scenes? Dunno, better handled in LOTR. Still a great film, and Martin was a great fit for Bilbo. Bring on part 2!

If the first was anywhere near as bad as the trilogy that came before it, this can only be total shit.

But Freeman is a perfect choice for Bilbo.
