NOAH is a close adaptation of the Biblical story of Noah’s Ark. In a world ravaged by human sin, Noah is given a divine mission: to build an Ark to save creation from the coming flood. The screenplay was written by Darren Aronofsky and Ari Handel and revised by Academy Award®-nominated screenwriter John Logan (GLADIATOR, HUGO). Scott Franklin and Aronofsky of Protozoa Pictures, along with Mary Parent of Disruption Entertainment, will produce the film. The film will be executive produced by Ari Handel (BLACK SWAN), Arnon Milchan of New Regency and Chris Brigham (INCEPTION, ARGO).



Noah is directed by Darren Aronofsky, and stars Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Emma Watson, Ray Winstone, Logan Lerman, Douglas Booth and Anthony Hopkins. It hits theaters March 28th, 2014.

@Batmaniac: I never said Noah doesn't exist. Your personal issues are highlighted by that fact coupled with your response. I said many people will take this seriously. My comment on the story of Noah and his ark is not a criticism of whether or not some guy named Noah existed and left his land to get away from supposedly evil people.

And calling someone sad because of their beliefs is in no way ridiculous. If I said protesters against interracial marriage are sad, you wouldn't have a problem with that assessment.

I wanna see it! I liked the passion of the Christ. Huge jim caveasel fan (loved Count of Monte Christo). I'll see this for the same reason. Darren Aronofsky, Russel Crowe, Anthony Hopkins, Emma Watson, Jennifer Connelly. Sounds like a great combo to me. And no I'm not religious, but I love a good story. Noahs ark is a good one. This will be a good one.

@Batmaniac: Your beliefs inform your actions. Since you don't live in a vacuum, everything you do affects others. You can't escape this. I don't view the world as black & white and am quite perplexed as to how you could come to such a ridiculous conclusion, then continue with your assumptions.

Belief in Noah is affecting me right now, simply because we're engaged in a debate about it – nevermind the other affects. It's not up to you to judge whether this is detrimental to me or not. If I tell you it's detrimental, your response should be to find out why, not tell me that I can't be hurt by it. People's beliefs in the story of Noah creates just as much damage to me as someone protesting interracial marriage does to interracial couples. People's feelings will get hurt or they will be annoyed, but we have something in America called freedom of speech. You might have heard of it.

You certainly aren't concerned about my feelings in this debate, so why in the world should I be concerned about some believer's feelings about my criticisms?

@Batmania: Wow, you really don't see your issues on display. I pointed out that we're in this debate because of your personal issues, and now I'm going to call you out on it even further. If you go back to my original post, I said it's sad that many people will take this seriously. Then I immediately went on to wonder what mythical creatures they were going to put into the movie.

We know from the numerous articles on this movie, that they intend to put mythical creatures on the ark (I remember reading that at some point). The bible story does not say anything about mythical creatures being on the ark. Since this is Hollywood, they will also add a bunch of other nonsense that isn't in the bible as well and people will STILL BELIEVE IT. This is exactly what happened with the most recent bible story on the History Channel that created all that controversy.

This isn't an issue of my insulting believers. It's an issue of you making assumptions and leading me into this debate.

After reading that long article about the script for this film, I'm pretty much resolved to NOT see this, but mind you, it's possible that it was an early script and doesn't reflect the final form of the film.
I know (or at least read) Aronofski screened this trailer for Christian audiences, and it's interesting they affix this Christian-themed-sounding modern song while showing only the scenes and elements that DON'T conflict with the Bible. A little misleading- unless Aronofski did alter the script considerably to more accurately reflect the well-known source material. There's a lotta interesting details in Genesis suggesting a totally different predelluvian (?) earth than is commonly portrayed or associated with Noah's account. -Much more potential than just the basic story everyone thinks they know, so it's irritating when the filmakers think they gotta embellish the tale to make it more interesting. Hope Ridley Scott doesn't embellish 'Exodus' too much- now THAT, I am hyped for. ......And I think this trailer DOES look pretty cool; always expected it to.

-I read Aronofski has like predecessor animals rather than modern ones in this film. -Which is an idea I freakin' LOVE; would Noah have brought Asian Elephants/African Elephants/those battle-elephants(dunno their technical name) of Alexander's time all on board the Ark? "2 of every kind" suggests No, he would've brought 2 pachyderms which would have obviously sired the various kinds to develop through the ages. Since the common concensus is that dogs are decennded from ancient wolves, I figure that, if people really believe the Genesis account, there's no conflict if we see all the (terrestrial) animal species extent 2day as having decended from fewer progenitors, so that big cats would have all decended from just 2 ancient ones- sabre-toothed tigers?- or elephants from Mammoths or Mastadons, and all
those wierd, big mammalian creatures I used to see in books about prehistoric animals as a kid. And thought seems to have been put into the scenes involving the actual flood itself- not just rain, but the asteroids, water shooting up from the earth- no doubt a nod to the Genesis mentioning that 'fountains of the great deep were broken open'....

The ark in the story has always baffled me. If the ship included 2 individuals of every species, then you would need proper facilities to house them, you would need food for them for 40days and perhaps food for the food plus all the space for that, you would need intense maintanence of the animal enclosures such as the removal of all the waste, what about space for fresh water storage. By my understanding the ship would have to be the size of uk lol

But as I said, beliefs inform actions so it's dangerous for people to believe anything they want. Imagine if I believed your wife belonged to me and that we would be perfect together. Imagine if I believed I could fly. Imagine if I believed that I was part of the master race and all others were inferior. These are all real world examples that led to real world tragedies.

And by the way, I do think its sad that anyone believes what we got in Iron Man 3 was the Mandarin. In fact, I think it's a travesty, a frackin' low down dirty shame. In comes the Iron Man 3 apologetics in 3... 2... 1...

@Luminus If you won't say it, I will - Noah doesn't (and didn't) exist. In fact, the story of Noah's Ark is actually a remake of a much older story. That original story might have been based on a real life flooding incident but it certainly wasn't global or divine.
