"Supermax" Moving Forward?

According to David Goyer it may very well be. MTV have some exclusive news on the potential Green Arrow prison break movie..

News on David Goyer's supervillain prison film, "Super Max." has been pretty much non existent since rumor of the movie broke over a year ago. Originally concieved as a "Green Arrow" story which would see DC's emerald archer plan a prison break with some of DC's most infamous villains such as Joker, Riddler and Lex Luthor.

MTV brought it up when chatting to David S Goyer..

"We're working on that. We're about to bring on another writer," Goyer told MTV News. "Obviously, Warner Bros. is now heavily into mining all of the various DC properties."

"We came up with the idea and thought it could work in either the Marvel or the DC universe," he explained. "It needed that type of character and there are analogues in both universes. Green Arrow seemed to make the most amount of sense."

As for whether "Super Max" is making any forward progress these days, Goyer simply said, "It's definitely something we're developing."

I hope this happens. I was never a huge fan of Green Arrow but have since gained an appreciation for him thorough the JLU cartoon and Smallville of all things! Also, the premise sounds great to me.

	It sounds cool, but that's because the concept is a complete rip-off of Brian Michael Bendis' run on Daredevil, in which Matt Murdock gets outed as Daredevil and gets sent to prison. 	I have been looking forward to this film since it was first announced. I believe the original pitch for this film was prior to the DD storyline that you’re referring to. Also Ollie being trapped in a prison as a hero among villains is an analogy to him being stranded alone on an island. 	DC and Warner Brothers need to get their shit together in order for anything to make sense in the DC universe. I don't see how they could do this movie with Joker, Riddler and Luthor being there without 1st tying in Batman and Supes in previous movies. 	I think the Joker, Lex stuff was just part of the original pitch. Obviously an actual script would not be able to include those characters if they are going to be part of other movies...unless they pull their heads out of there ass and cross them over. But i think if iot does happen the villains will prob be the likes of Deadshot, Killer Frost, basically anyone thats going to be part of the Suicide Squad movie that will inevitably follow if Supermax gets made. 	@ spidey Ultimate alliance will definately be 2 players! all of the games they made like this have been, plus it can be played online. i would recommend getting the first one, its only 15 bucks used at gamestop and its fantastic! it'll at least hold you over until the new one comes out!!! also i would love a civil war movie, but it would probabl be impossible, at least for now, i thought civil war was the best series to come out in a VERY long time, it was just epic, and i wouldn't want them to make one until they had the rights back for all the important characters, like the fantastic four, luke cage, and so on. but man that would awesome! 	Civil War would be [frick]ing amazing if done right but i think the best we can hope for is an animated movie, at least for the foreseeable future. 	This should be a sequel story. If this is how people are introduced to Ollie, then they are gonna be lost. 	@ ror yeah in order for civil war to work they would have to establish a LOT of characters, not even necessarily ALL of the same ones from the comic, but still a lot to make two teams of characters that everyone knows already. people need to care about the characters that would be fighting each other. thats what was so great about the comic, each team had characters that you liked, i don't care who you are. so it was kind of hard to pick a side, even though iron man was technically right, lol. 	CDB i was actually for Cap and his team! Stark was "right" i guess, but i just loved how Cap refused to compromise his beliefs. I was actually never a massive Cap fan before Civil War. I always found him a bit annoying, but Millar really made him likable to me. I love when the 2 villains(Sidewinder and someone else i think) try to join Caps team and The Punisher riddles them with bullets, so Cap beats the crap out of him but he won't fight back..classic! 	I remember the original pitch for this, and it was something along the lines of he get's caught being a vigilante, they take his bow costume and shave off his goatee (?) in the first 15 minutes of the film and throw him in a prison full of super-powered bad guys. I remember my first thoughts being ROFL!!! Take his bow and costume and he's just another angry nut, only in a prison full of super powered people that want him dead. 	@ ror yeah, its tough not to like cap these days! iron man was right as far as the registering part, but he was wrong for forcing them to work for the government imo. @ captainboomerang scared of change?? think about the concept. it COULD be done really well, but i think it should be a sequel. but you have to admit that a lot of it doesn't make sense. if it is the joker and riddler, or any other batvillains, really, it doesn't make sense for them to be anywhere other than arkham. and it seems weird to make it the intro to a character. its obviously very early to make any real judgement, but on paper it sounds like a very weird, possibly stupid idea. but thanks for passing judgement... 	i think it sounds like a good idea, if it's done properly. GA would have no bow and no costume, nothing what so ever to protect him. It's the ultimate challenge for any Superhero. How does he stay alive? How does he cope with the seclusion? how does he get out? you could apply these questions to lots of other Supers and they would probably handle the situation better and escape easier, but the thing about GA is that without his Bow and arrows he's incredibly vulnerable, more so than Daredevil would be (he has powers, even without his costume) or Batman (He's Batman for [frick]s sake, one of the greatest heros of all time, even without the gadgets and the suit he could still kick ass). its for these reasons that it would be better to use GA as it would be a huge challenge for him. theFACE - 8/12/2009, 3:29 AM

	Agreed CDB. Green Arrow isnt exactly superman or Batman in terms of general knowlege by the public, so I think many people will be confused putting a somewhat obscure character in a movie that disassociates itself from that characters iconic image and MO. 	As a huge Green Arrow fan myself, I think that this concept, while cool, would never work as movie. I mean the guy's called "Green Arrow" for Christsakes! You take away the green and the arrows and what do you got? You might as well just go ahead and cast Supermike! Why would anyone at DC want to waste one of their flagship characters on a movie like this when Green Arrow needs an origin movie first to introduce him to the general public. Not to mention the fact that Green Arrow has such a strong supporting cast in the comics (Connor Hawke, Dinah Lance=Black Canary, Roy Harper=Red Arrow, Mia=Speedy, Hal Jordan, etc., etc., the list goes on) why would you want to make a GA movie WITHOUT these characters considering what kind of dynamics they could bring to a movie. 	First, Clearly Cap and the rebels were right in Civil War. And this could never be a live-action movie - WAAAAAYYYY too many characters needed to do it right. Maybe a straight-to-DVD animated one like Next Avengers. Second, the script for this came out BEFORE the Daredevil comic strip - so I have no problem with using GA for it. Third, I like the fact that its not your usual "origin" story. Why does every superhero movie have to be the first time they decide to be a hero? Let's do something different for once. And just because he has a large part of the movie in prison doesn't mean they won't have other characters coming to visit him (Canary, Speedy) or even trying to help him from the outside (Arsenal, Connor). A good script could definitely use all of those people. I think the idea sounds completely bad-ass.
