BOX OFFICE: IRON MAN 3 Is The Top Grossing Movie Of 2013

Probably not much of a surprise, but the Marvel threequel sits comfortably at the top of the 10 highest grossing movies of 2013 list, with Man Of Steel taking fourth place behind Despicable Me 2 and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Click on for the list in full.

Some of you CBMers feel 2013 wasn't a particularly good year for our beloved comic book films, and obviously in terms of overall quality that's a debate worth having...but one thing is for sure, they certainly made quite a bit of coin! The Times has released a list of the top 10 highest grossing films of 2013, and with a whopping $1,215,439,994 worldwide box office gross, Iron Man 3 takes the top spot. The rest of the list is, predictably enough, made up of big budget sci-fi/action movies and animated adventures. At 2 there's Despicable Me 2, 3) The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, 4) Man of Steel, 5) Monsters University, 6) Gravity, 7) Fast & Furious 6, 8) Oz the Great and Powerful, 9) Star Trek Into Darkness and at 10 we have World War Z.

NOTE: Although Iron Man 3 is sure to be safe at the top, the likes of Thor: The Dark World and The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug will likely impact this list in some way come December 31st, so we'll have an update around then.

Like it or not, a CBM dominated BO's numbers this year once again, and that's just awesome.

I knew that Iron Man 3 would be the top grosser of the year, I just was not expecting it to make that much money.

I'm glad a CBM wins the box office this year. Even if it was total garbage.

HAHA!!! NOT BLOODY LIKELY! We're definitely in for some awesome films in 2015, don't get me wrong, but those numbers are just astronomical by comparison. Avengers is sitting at 3rd place $600+ million behind second place. Avengers + Thor: TDW = Titanic. Avengers is $1.2 billion behind #1. Avengers + Iron Man 3 = Avatar...

With the success of IM3......comedy is going to be a big part of Ant Man hence a comedy actor being cast.

Iron Man is a cash cow. Hence his helmet being the main feature in the Avengers 2 trailer.

There you go again, inciting a flame war. Isn't it customary to feature the subject of the article, the winner of the box office, not the fourth place (aka LOSER... not even a bronze medal!) finisher? Sad.

BUT... hey, let's not stop there! Lets get the details ...

IM3 - Domestic: $409.01M Foreign: $806.43M
MOS - Domestic: $291.04M Foreign: $371.80M

Totals - IM3: $1.2 Billion MOS: $662.84 Million

uh...oh my... I just realized... IM3 DOUBLED UP MOS worldwide!!

FLAME ON!!!

2008 is still the best year for comic book movies.

Hopefully 2015 mimics it.
