Gary Oldman In STAR WARS EPISODE VII? "They've Called"

Could we see the legendary Gary Oldman become part of yet another big sci-fi/fantasy franchise? The Robocop actor doesn't go into too much detail, but does admit that there's studio interest. Check out the brief video interview after the jump.

While he was doing press rounds for Robocop, Sky Movies quizzed Gary Oldman on whether there was any chance we'd see him in Star Wars - be it in Episode VII or one of the future spin-offs. And sure enough, the ever candid actor reveals that J.J. Abrams and/or Disney are interested in getting him on board in some capacity. Oldman admits that "they've called", but doesn't show any indication that he's agreed to official discussions - he also seems slightly hesitant about signing up to another huge franchise, saying that he's become "cynical" about certain types of roles. That being said, he doesn't rule anything out. Watch the vid for yourselves below.

Well, could you guys see Oldman in Star Wars? A Jedi? a Sith? Or another role entirely? Sound off in the usual place.

I can see him as a new Obi-Wan type character, to train the new Jedi alongside Han, Luke, and Leia.

If only this would happen. Oldman would make ep 7 better than four out of six of the previous SW movies just because of himself.

Dear God if you make this happen I'll start a hospital like Danny Thomas did with St. Jude's, I promise. Also you'll need to make me a multi-millionare.
Amen

If Gary Oldman is willing to be in your movie, you cast Gary Oldman in your movie. I'm pretty sure it's an Amendment or something. Congress passes these things for a reason.

@grifdeadpoolteabag We don't usually agree...but if they cast Gary Oldman as Bel Iblis, I will be fully on board with that.

I think Oldman is getting bottled into these harmless old guy roles. He needs to do something with some serious bite like Drexel, Dracula, and his Air Force One villain.
I hope to see him play a bad ass again very soon.

They really are looking at everyone. Gary Oldman and Hugo Weaving in the same movie (if they both end up doing it that is). That alone might be too much power for one film.

My message to J.J. Abrams and Disney:

You offer Gary Oldman whatever he asks and just get him to sign that contract.

PERIOD.

When I read the Thrawn Trilogy I always imagined Oldman in the title role. And while I'm not saying they will use that character in the film, I'll say that I'd lose my f*cking mind if they did. Anyone else think Oldman would own the part of Grand Admiral Thrawn?

Cumberbatch definitely looks the part and would do it justice. I just think him playing Khan in Star Trek and then Thrawn in Star Wars is a little redundant. Abrams directing both is already a little off putting.

Well he was going to be General Grievous in Sith, but had to drop out cuz of the screen actors guild or some crap. He'd be awesome.
