MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Director Shortlist Revealed

MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Director Shortlist Revealed

It's a very short..shortlist, but apparently either Mike Cahill (Another Earth) or Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2) will direct the live action adaptation of the classic animated series, He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe.

When Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) dropped out of directing Columbia’s live-action reboot of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, names such as Joe Cornish, Rian Johnson, and Phil Lord and Chris Miller were rumored as possible replacements. But it seems none of those guys made the shortlist, as the following gentlemen are said to be in line to helm the project.

There's not much to go on yet, but here's the Tweet from Variety's Justin Kroll

Apparently we'll have a decision next week. Cahill directed the pretty great 2011 sci-fi drama Another Earth, as well as another sci-fi flick which received slightly mixed reviews from this year's Sundance Film Festival, I, Origins. Jeff Wadlow of course directed Kick-Ass 2 and was in line to helm Fox's X-Force movie. If he gets this gig will it interfere with that? One would think so. Anyway, who do you think the right man to bring Skeletor, Ram-Man, Fisto and co. to the big screen is? The Lone Ranger writer Terry Rossio penned the most recent draft of the script, which is being produced by Escape Artists principals Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch.

UPDATE: The Wrap have added Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid reboot) and Chris McKay (editor on The Lego Movie) to that list.

I grew up on He Man cartoons, so I love the franchise. I would love a great He Man movie! Heck, I even love the Dolph Lungren hot mess of a He Man movie!

Too bad Chu isn't directing. He could have f@cked this up like he did with "G.I. Joe: Regurgitation."

Please make this happen, Masters of Universe has so much potential and could be amazing.

Some day I will also get to see this on the big screen some day.

Nuts!
Masters of the Universe and Thundercats are two totally awesome concepts that I just do not see translating well to live action. At all.

Hope they don't make it too PG.
It should be a cool blend of brutal barbarism, advanced science & twisted sorcery.
Keep the costumes very close to the original characters.

@ Pedrito

You are nut my friend, these could make great franchise movies and yes they can be put on the big screen. Heck if Harry Potter, Transformers, and TMNT can do it then Masters of the Universe and Thundercats can do the same.

I know this will end up being a PG13, but damn I'd love to see this done really really dark and violent. CGI Battle-Cat & Panthor big picture feel but it will just end up being a toy selling movie.

I'm glad Chu is not on the list. He would ruin it. I like Wadlow but I'd rather see him do X-Force.

Wadlow is shit pleaaaaaase pick Cahill. Another Earth was a piece of cinematic genius. Cahill is an actual director. Wadlow directed a film where a girl puked and shitted at the same time ....😑

If they base it off the cartoon then it it's making a big mistake right from the start. Stick with the power sword story from the comics that came with the figures.

I would rather see a Thundercats movie or a Biker Mice from Mars movie.

Jonny Quest would be cool too.

Not a fan, but I would actually like to see this in live action. It could either be good or so bad that it's good. I can see it generating the slew of commonly used memes as well.

Oh, I can see this film changing careers.

"By the power of Grayskull! I'm going to kill my agent!!!"

On another note, this could be another chance for Kellan Lutz to show his acting chops.
