Jon M. Chu Set To Direct A JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS Movie

This is outrageous..truly outrageous! Anyone who grew up in the '80s should remember the cartoon, and after bringing inflicting a G.I. JOE sequel on us, Chu has set his sights on bringing Jem and her fellow Holograms to live action. More after the jump.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M. Chu has signed on to bring another '80s Hasbro cartoon series to the big screen: Jem And The Holograms. The live action movie will be produced by Jason Blum (Insidious, Paranormal Activity) and Scooter Braun, and along with Chu they're asking for fan participation in the form of open auditions for actors, singers, dancers, costume designers -- basically like a Kickstarter campaign, but "instead of money, we want your creativity". Here's the announcement vid, and a little trip down memory lane too.

C'mon guys, little girls needed heroes too! This was actually a pretty quality made cartoon. Not saying I'll see the movie (especially with Chu at the helm).

I understand what Ror is saying too, but, I'm with you Joe. I'd much rather see either one of those as well as TigerSharks and C.O.P.S..

So I'm assuming it will be like the "Josie and the Pussycats" movie and they'll get some former Disney/Nick star to sing and do a music tie in. Whatever! How about a good GI Joe movie 1st? How about that?

The 80's - where every cartoon character had to be in a band or fighting someone with a skull face.

Too bad I don't give a shit about the movie, but as a project, the idea of bringing together talent from all around the world in a kickstarter sort of way is interesting. I wonder how they'll work their way around the whole contractual aspects, though
