Leonard Nimoy Will Not Be Playing Spock Again

At Dragon-Con this weekend Nimoy said he would not be reprising the role of Spock in the next Star Trek. There are also some great videos featuring hilarious banter between Nimoy and William Shanter at the Con panel.
Asked if he would reprise the role of the older Spock, Nimoy said..

"There are no plans for me to return for the second movie. I think the Spock character is very well established as portrayed by Zachary Quinto. And I think if you saw the movie, Bill, you'd say the same of Chris Pine."

To this Shatner responded "Bullshit" in mock bitterness. These following videos are full of funny moments between the two old friends and I think any classic Trek fan should watch for the nostalgia buzz. They are pretty long, but do yourself a favor and watch the first one, some awesome moments.

Haha star trek mmm never my cup of tea

did anyone see the movie fanboys? Actually really funny haha
SdProphet - 9/6/2009, 2:05 PM
I Looked them both up on IMDB and surprizingly they are the same age. They were both born in 1931. For some reasons Ive always thought shatner was much younger than nemoy. Nemoy looks much older even still.
theartofoneness - 9/6/2009, 2:07 PM
That's a shame :(

Nimoy was one of the biggest highlights of the movie, even though the whole movie was awesome.

TYLER @ Nimoy was put in it just to connect the two an not pi$$ too many fans off aswell, it was a nice touch like i said, but it'll get STALE pretty fast if he's in the next one lol.

Its a new begining!

HAWKS @ No man, it keeps [frick]ing up every 30 seconds or so, if im lucky a couple of minutes!

Mite just hav'ta turn it off 4 the rest of the day lol.

Cant even watch the VIDS up top dammit.

SD @ Im more STAR WARS dude, i ain't seen FANBOYS yet but i wanna!!!

LEEE777 - 9/6/2009, 2:33 PM
I'm sure he'll have some sort of cameo like maybe some sort of scene in the begining where he talks to Quinto Spock via message like when Picard talked to Janeway in Nemesis. Personally I'd love to see Nimoy be part of the story like he was in the first one.
Superman4 - 9/6/2009, 2:42 PM
I guess you have a point Lee. But I just would like to see a tiny bit more of Nimoy.

I'm much more of a Star Wars fan myself, I used to hate Star Trek.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 9/6/2009, 2:42 PM
I love William Shatner. He is very funny and never takes himself too seriously. Anyone recall him on the Fresh Prince? One of my favorite episodes.
longbowhunter - 9/6/2009, 3:44 PM
TYLER @ Me too lol! ; D

LEEE777 - 9/6/2009, 3:51 PM
Shatner shouldn't be in the next movie though. It would be just too distracting, and it would pull me right out of the movie if he showed up.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 9/6/2009, 3:56 PM
Who knows? Nimoy didn't even plan on being in the original Star Trek movie. They casted a completely new guy to play a Vulcan for a new TV show before Nimoy came back and they decided to do the movie. He may very well be back someday.
AxlKomix - 9/6/2009, 4:08 PM
All hail the mighty Shatner!
ASSASSIN666 - 9/6/2009, 5:12 PM
LMFAO, Spock said 'Dickhead'
TheMyth - 9/6/2009, 5:19 PM
HAIL!!!
LEEE777 - 9/6/2009, 5:19 PM
LEEE777, I agree completely. To connect the new Star Trek movie to the original film series and tv series, they had to have Leonard Nimoy appear as Spock. It was JJ Abrams showing fans that he cared for the original franchise by involving time travel to reboot the universe, something only Star Trek could do! But Nimoy's time is done. He has been a wonderful Spock for 40 years and has done an incredible job but its time for Zachary Quinto to give his take on the role and hopefully portray it for another five movies. Off-screen, have older Spock find and help set up the new Vulcan homeworld and then have him disappear into the shadows to avoid altering the timeline any further
dancingmonkey08 - 9/6/2009, 7:56 PM
Lol...
Fartman - 9/6/2009, 9:38 PM
doesn't he in theory disappear from existence? even if he survived vulcans destruction, i'm sure it would've effected a lot of his decisions in life and the turn out i'm sure would be completely different, then he would have never been held responsible for ramulans, so they would'nt have destroyed vulcan, so vulcan would still exist therefor his life would be unchanged so he would be held responsible for the destruction of ramulus and vulcan would be destroyed so then... i hate when people fcuk with time travel >:\
Godl1ng - 9/6/2009, 9:43 PM
What the hell'd you just say God1ing? heh I'm a total tech nerd, and didn't get all that. =) I'm not a hardcore Trek dude, but I enjoy it.

Actually, I believe there are two main theories of time travel which obviously effect the possible outcomes differently - plus remember they are playing with multidimensionality now, so that throws a whole other dimension (pun intended =P) into the loop.

I'm sure it's been analyzed to death at this point, but honestly, I don't even think Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci know 100% what they're doing. There is a new Star Trek dvd set of II, III, and IV. IV has a commentary with these guys - they are like Laurel and Hardy (in a bad way). They can't even agree on alot of things themselves.

And yeah Nimoy has a hard time making his mind up. There've been several times throughout the history of the series that he was just gonna quit. So we'll see.
48and2 - 9/6/2009, 10:14 PM
yeah, i was just being a d-bag lol i loved that movie
Godl1ng - 9/6/2009, 10:19 PM
I freakin love those TWO!!!!!! Spock is one of my favorite all time peoples ever!

My nick name when i was little was ahem... "Little Spock" cuz i wore from like the age of 8 to the last day i could fit it... loterally.... a one piece tan zip up Star Trek suit with just the symbol on it. Still mostly a Star Wars fan. But i was born under the Trek Sign.

This new film was far better than the 1st and 2nd in the story films of Star Wars though. Heck it to all..... the last Star Trek movie was incredible. The thing i love with Star Wars though now more than Star Trek is the Political responsibility and epic scale of the story. It is a true map of our future.
shibazz - 9/7/2009, 3:02 AM
DANCING @ Good idea man!

SHIB @ Can we all call you lil spock??? ; D

I gotta agree the last TREK was amazing, it completely surprised me, i heard it was good but it was fantastic!

Hey guys head over to fan-fic to see my Master Chief article! Its just like Brents Captain America and Dr Strange article!Make your voices heard!
Ozymandias - 9/7/2009, 11:39 AM
lol... you guys are hillarious. Yeah I loved the new movie, was completely blown away. Saw it twice, and it made me want to go back into the series/movies and learn more about it.

I love Star Wars too, but share the common opinion of the new ones sucking ass. They are terrible, unwatchable... they're just like horrible monstrous experiments in special effects, and the actors are like props.

I wonder where the next movie will fit in. I think the guys from Next Generation should have cameos at least - out of all the subsequent series, that one, to me is BY FAR the best.

I guess we should start casting Kahn pretty soon. I have noone off the top of my head, as I'm hesitant, because that's the most sacred villain in the whole canon.
48and2 - 9/7/2009, 2:26 PM
Those were great Ror. Thanks for posting!
Matrix - 9/7/2009, 4:17 PM
