New STAR WARS Movies Could Revert To Original May Release Dates

Disney boss Alan Horn has revealed that the new batch of Star Wars flicks could revert to their original May release dates. That means we'd (potentially) get a Star Wars movie, Captain America 3 and Batman VS. Superman all in the same month in 2016.

In a new interview, Disney Chairman Alan Horn has dropped a few Star Wars updates. He confirms that a second unit has indeed started filming in Abu Dhabi, pretty much also confirming that those snaps we featured last week were from the Star Wars Episode VII set. He also confirms that George Lucas is still a consultant on the first movie, at least. But most interestingly, Horn says that, depending on script readiness, we could actually see the trilogy revert to their original May release dates. That means that a Star Wars film (if Disney/Lucasfilm stick to their "one a year" mandate anyway) could very well open the same month as Marvel's Captain America threequel and Zack Snyder's Batman VS. Superman themed sequel to Man Of Steel. Woah. And speaking of Cap VS. Bats VS. Supes, Horn says that Disney are "struggling" with their decision to hold fast when going up against WB's Man Of Steel sequel..could we see them back down?

Well, that would be an epic May. And a no-money-left May too...

I'll see it, no matter when it's released. But I would prefer that they take their time on something like this.

I don't read it like that necessarily. I took it to mean future installments (8, 9, and the solo movies) would be in May.

Sorry..I originally wrote that in a slightly confusing way..I meant we'd get the second in the new trilogy along with Cap 3 and BVS in 2016.

Star Wars 8 in May 2016? Look! I know that cash smells good, but sometimes when we make cookies, we have to wait for them to be ready...

I think its Star Wars 7 in May 2015 and Star Wars 8 in May 2016. I guess they are going to shoot them back to back like the Hobbit films. I'm all for it.

@Ror the "second" Star Wars movie to be released by Disney will be the first solo movie. I think he was clarifying that just because they pushed Episode VII back to December doesn't mean they'll stay in December.

So the schedule would be:
December 2015: Episode VII
May 2016: Solo movie 1
May 2017: Episode VIII
May 2018: Solo movie 2
May 2019: Episode IX
May 2020: Solo movie 3

That being said I would not be surprised to actually see Solo movie 1 be released in May 2017 with everything following from there.

Read what it says: this has nothing to do with Episode VII's release date; this pertains to future films being released in the traditional May slot as opposed to keeping them as December releases from here on out.

If this happens then bye bye Batman vs Superman. Marvel will move Cap 3 in April and Disney will put a Star Wars film on that May 6th date xD Dis gonna be good;) Meanwhile at Disney/Lucas Film Studios...

If you think about it, this does make sense. Disney can capitalize on two summer blockbusters. Also Star Wars 7 was originally planned for the summer so maybe they realized that they would have enough time after all. JJ had to rewrite the first draft of the script when that other screenwriter left the project. So with Avengers just beginning shooting which is just as big of a film they should have plenty of time to get SW7 out for a May release Date.

Horn means Episode VIII and 9 to May not Episode VII!

Also The Avengers 2 is debuting in May 2015 as well. Is Disney now butting heads with Marvel Studios. Surely those Avengers 2 and ST: VII films would want to stay out of each other's way.

I hate to say it, but BvS could dominate Star Wars at the BO.

I think the way it plays out with Cap3 and BvS is Marvel moves Cap to March or April as others have said and then puts Star Wars Solo 1 in 5/13 or 5/20. Nothing in either of those spots right now.
