Domhnall Gleeson On Landing The Role Of A Lifetime In STAR WARS VII

The notoriously private Dublin-born actor doesn't reveal any specific details about his role, but he does comment on only finding out he won the part the day before the table read with his fellow cast members. Click on for more..

When the Star Wars: Episode VII cast was announced the other day, one of the surprise names on the list was former Harry Potter alum Domhnall Gleeson. The son of the great Brendan Gleeson had already begun to make a name for himself with roles in the likes of About Time, and a brief but chilling turn in Irish flick Calvary, but joining the galaxy far far away is by far his biggest gig yet. While talking to Ray Darcy on Dublin radio show 2FM, the actor describes the feeling of finding out he nabbed the role just one day before he had to join his cast-mates for a table read in London. "I'm still struggling to come to terms with it," Gleeson admitted. "It all happened really quickly for me. It was like the day before and then I'm at a table reading with Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill. It was madness but it was great." So who is Glesson playing? He's quizzed about it, and asked if he will be playing the son of Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker, but obviously he has to keep schtum. "I'm afraid if I say anything I'll give away the plot of the whole movie. I've got two years of this ahead of me. The movie is released in December 2015 -- that's the amount of time I have to keep my mouth shut!" The popular theory is that Gleeson will indeed be playing the son of Skywalker, but I'm hearing whispers that he may actually be joining Adam Diver on the dark side! Nothing concrete, but there you go. Which side of the force do you think he'll wind up on?

He's great. Plus as Antoin said, terrific in Black Mirror (that episode also has Hayley Atwell).

Would be quite awesome if he's the son of Luke but joins the Dark Side of the Force. I thought those were the initial rumors about the story as well. I really want to see Ridley take the main role.

December? STAR WARS is a summertime franchise. Oh well, at least it'll take the reins from the Hobbit when it concludes this December.

Four years of Holiday season epics.

December for SW7 is an exception ^^

After that and for 2016/17/18, it'll be Avatar 2/3/4 !

So Star Wars becomes again a summer time franchise :P

@loki668 really he's playing a character from I-III in a movie series that will takes place at least sixty years after? Thumbs up for the original joke though! A Jar-Jar joke in Star Wars thread? Jesus! How clever.

We all know he will in some way be related to Obi-Wan. Have you seen this man with a beard lol? He looks like he could definitely be a relative possibly a son of Obi-Wan

I'm so happy for him... he was awesome in the Harry Potter series where we watched him grow into what he is now. Godspeed Ron Weasley!! You truly deserve to be there.

so, I'm a bit unfamiliar with this guy. Was he the eldest Weasley brother (the one w/ the scars) in the HP movies?

If so, I always thought he'd make a great Kenobi or Skywalker. Don't ask me why. He just has that look about him.

I just want to see John Boyega kick ass and take names. For all the hype that Windu got, he never lived up to the hype and his death was embarrassing.

Boyega better be a Jedi, not Lando's son.

Read the article in the link. So sad. I knew she had addiction issues, but never knew about the neurological stuff. Shock therapy?! Whoa!! That's [frick]in crazy (no pun intended)!!

Smh. As Rick James famously quoted... "cocaine's a helluva drug"

That's what I was thinking too. Gets his force aptitude from Dad (Luke), height from Grandpa (Ani), and hair from Mom (Mara)

He's a red head and Luke's wife from the books I believe her name is Mara Jade (I may be incorrect, haven't read those books in more than ten years) and she's got red hair.

^Doesn't matter anymore. Mara Jade along with all the Solo kids and everything Extended Universe are no longer canon.
