A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Let Me In), from a screenplay written by Mark Bomback, Scott Z. Burns, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. The cast includes: Andy Serkis (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey), Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty, Public Enemies, The Great Gatsby), Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises, The Harry Potter film series), Keri Russell (The Americans, Mission Impossible III), Toby Kebbell (The Prince of Persia, Wrath of the Titans, Rock N Rolla), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In, ParaNorman), Enrique Murciano (Traffic, Black Hawk Down), Kirk Acevedo (The Thin Red Line) and Judy Greer (The Descendants, Three Kings, 13 Going on 30). The film hits theaters July 11, 2014

As a kid growing up the originals were everything to me! Now to see them re-done and done right makes me happy. I honestly think this will be the best movie of the summer, just like I thought the 1st was. I really cannot wait to see this.

I still don't get why they skipped the actual Ape VS Human war... that could have been intriguing to see. Instead its simply 10 years time and skips the uprising of the apes.

I'm not asking for a fighting movie, but its just odd to me. Surely seeing the first movie set-up the uprising should have been followed by the uprising in the second with this sort of film coming as the final film in a trilogy.

I'm going to watch it, but I'm not sure how they plan to do a trilogy if it skips forward randomly in time. I get they wanted to show the post-apocalyptic world (Which looks amazing in areas) but I'm just confused as to why we didn't get an 'apes rising' film.

@Scarilian

Gary Oldmans character said they spent 4 years fighting the virus and another 4 fighting each other.. All we missed is people getting sick.. This movie IS about the Apes Vs Humans.. I mean we actually see the war about to start in the trailer.. And the Third movie is gonna probably be about the ship that was going mars in Rise of the Apes and the news paper said it got lost in space so when it arrives back to earth we should see a very clever remake of "Planet of the Apes".. If u ask me I think they're doing this perfectly..

So wait... the apes decided to trash the city at the end of the last one and then they just all left for 10 years and decided to attack now because someone is going to kill Caesar's child? :s

Personally I don't think the 'Planet Of The Apes' need to be remade again - its been remade at least twice from memory and their are many other scenarios that could be shown.

@scarilian

No the apes went and started to live they're lives in the Red woods after 'Rise'.. The humans got sick from the 112 virus and for ten years they we're fighting each other and getting each other sick.. Now since the human species is decreasing and getting sicker and the apes are getting smarter and multiplying so humans fear they won't be the dominant species anymore so the war starts..

And "Planet of the Apes" only has remade once and it sucked so yeah there is room for improvement.

I agree with you 100%

I cannot wait to see who they cast in the third movie when the Spaceship arrives back on earth. Personally I think it would be pretty cool if when the ship arrives they jumped about a thousand years ahead and now like the original Apes RULE earth and Man dont even speak!

@TheRealSupaMan

Yes exactly.. I hope it is like a thousand years later and Ceaser is long gone but there is like this big statue of him because he did start it all. And it doesn't have to be called "Planet of the apes" but keep that same story but have it a modernized version..

There's no point in remaking the original Planet of The Apes film. You can't do the big twist at the end again. You also can't recreate the mystery of the planet due to the prequels. These films are all about Caesar, you can't do a huge time jump without killing him off. The next film should be about the growing mutant threat to both Humans and Apes.

^^ that would be a waste of a movie

@Ocelot

You got some valid points. So maybe not next film but if it makes it to a fourth film it would still be cool to see the Astro's come back to a planet earth that has been taken over by Apes and for a Suprise in the movie, wether it be at the end of the movie or not, I'm sure the writers can come up with something to suprise everyone.

@TheRealSupaMan

If they were to do a remake of the original(it will happen) then it should be in the 4th film. I think the first batch of these new films(Rise, Dawn and the 2016 film) should deal with Caesar's Rise(along with the apes of course) and perhaps tragic fall, which could happen in the third film. Properly finish his arc/story then move on. They did a good job with Rise and it looks like they've done another good job with this. I don't doubt that they can do a good remake, I just think it's unnecessary.

@Supermandatory

"that would be a waste of a movie"

Don't see how. The Apes will most likely win in this movie, with Caesar possibly fully turning on the Humans becoming some sort of dictator in the process(like in the original ending of Conquest). In the third film Caesar no longer trusts Humans and rules them(hinting at what the planet is eventually set to become). Humans are almost extinct, the mutants who are threat to be both emerge(they didn't fight themselves like the humans). Instead of having Psychic powers like in the originals, they could simply be super smart. The Human protagonist believes this mutual enemy can unite the two groups together. They unite, defeat the mutants. Caesar is about to change his ways but is killed by his son/close ape before he can do so. Apes go on to fully rule the planet via a harsh and brutal dictatorship. You can then do a massive time jump without Caesar, as his story would be over.

^^ I see where your going with this but it all depends on how many ape movies they want to make.. If they keep it as a trilogy then I would go with my theory since they layed the ground work for it in Rise but if they decide to make it more than a trilogy (which I hope) then I can see them doing it how you said.. I can form a better guess about the the third movie after I actually watch Dawn.
