Who is GREEN ARROW?
Oliver Queen is GREEN ARROW. Former Billionaire Playboy. Former Star City Mayor. Lover of Black Canary. Mentor to many other superhero archers. Fighter for the "little guy". Deadly accurate with a bow and arrow. A hunter. A modern day "Robin Hood".

GREEN ARROW is a DC Comics character created by Mort Weisinger and George Papp, he first appeared in More Fun Comics #73 in November 1941. Originally developed as an archery-themed analogue of the very popular Batman character, writers at DC have developed GREEN ARROW into a voice of left-wing and progressive politics very much distinct in character from Batman, with his own supporting cast.

VISUAL HISTORY
First Appearances
1941: GREEN ARROW first appeared in More Fun Comics #73. His design is based on Robin Hood. His original costume was a plain long green shirt with a black belt running around his waist, a green tights, red gloves and boots, a domino mask, and the black strap of his quiver running across his chest.

Classic Look
It was in the 1960s that we get this classic look of GREEN ARROW. It is a good update of his previous costume, and a stronger "Robin Hood" design with the laced tunic shirt. By this time GREEN ARROW is also sporting a beard.

Though at times the laces are missing, whether this is due to artist interpretation or GREEN ARROW just forgot where he placed them.

Hooded GREEN ARROW
The 80s came and an update to his old costume is needed, so he added sleeves and a hood, and completely removes the laces on his chest.

The costume above with a domino mask

Barely GREEN ARROW
For a time in the 90s he was dispensing justice in regular clothes, which barely has any green color on it (maybe we could call him No Color Specific Arrow).

Ninja GREEN ARROW
When he finally decide to go back in wearing a costume, he did not veer much away from his previous designs. He just added some brown to complement the green in his costume, and gold braces (to complement his hair?). He also dispensed his domino mask for something similar to what the Ninja Turtles are wearing (Turtle Power!). Oliver Queen did not wear this costume for long, and his son - Connor Hawke who also goes by the name GREEN ARROW, looks much better on it.

Justifier GREEN ARROW
In the Final Crisis storyline, GREEN ARROW was forcibly inducted into Darkseid's Justifier, by wearing this ridiculously looking helmet.

Black Arrow
The Blackest Night event made our Emerald Archer into a Black Lantern for a brief moment.

GREEN ARROW of the Forest
In the events of Brightest Day we now see a forest in GREEN ARROW's protected city. He now truly is a modern Robin Hood. His costume now has different shades of green to blend in better on his surrounding.

LIVE MEDIA
GREEN ARROW, Oliver Queen, first live adaptation is in Smallville where he is played by Justin Hartley. He has been featured heavily on the last few season of the series. His characterization in the show is a bit of an amalgamation between the comics GREEN ARROW and Batman, specifically his relationship with the show's Clark Kent (future Superman).

POWERS & ABILITIES
Note: Due to the nature of comicbooks being an on-going tale, the character's powers along with his appearance, is in a constant state of flux.

Oliver Queen's powers, if any, remain unknown. It has been rumored that GREEN ARROW may in fact be a metahuman. The Department of Extranormal Operations has a classified dossier on Queen, wherein they indicate such a possibility, but as of yet, this information has not been confirmed nor denied.

Abilities
Aviation: He used to own and fly his own airplane called the Arrowplane. He still has some skill in flying different types of planes.

Cooking: GREEN ARROW's Chili is one of the hottest foods on the planet.

Master Archer: Oliver Queen is perhaps the finest archer ever known. He claims to be able to shoot 29 arrows per minute. He has a wide-variety of trick arrows, ranging from bola arrows to time-bomb arrows to his infamous boxing-glove arrow. In recent years he has used these arrows sparingly, preferring the time-tested simple arrow. GREEN ARROW has shown the ability to shoot an arrow down the barrel of a gun, pierce a drop of water as it leaves a tap, and shoot almost any part of the human body; although he aims only to wound and not kill when he shoots.

Master Martial Artist: He is proficient in several forms of hand-to-hand combat including Judo, Kickboxing and Karate.

Master Swordsman: Ollie is also very proficient with a sword, though it is not his preferred weapon of choice.

Acrobatics: He has displayed on many occasions that he is an expert in acrobatics, and often uses this skill while evading enemy fire.

This is the 31st article in my Know Your CBM Character series. Any requests and suggestions for an article for this series write it down in the comment section BELOW.

Message to the CBM community:To those who are making requests, check first [here] because I might have done an article on the character already. If I have not please be patient, I will get on it as soon as possible (but consider the fact that I spend hours writing one of these articles). Try to limit your request to characters that already have been adapted to live media, so that the feature will at least be relevant to the site – Comic Book Movie(though I include TV characters). Characters in Manga or Anime’, I am not particularly familiar of, I am not discounting these characters but it will probably take some time before I write a feature on them because I have to read up on these characters. Thank you for reading these articles! If there are errors on the feature article above, blame it on my age, humanity and ignorance. Just be sure to check the comment section for the corrections, any error I made will surely be pointed out and corrected by much bigger geeks (because there will always be a bigger geek out there). -This has been PollMaster inviting you to the geekside. MABUHAY CBM and Godspeed!

If you've not done him yet then Nick Fury would be cool to see, he's been through quite a few changes.

Or the Joker, but I imagine you've done him by now.

Fascinating that Batman has become a right leaning libertarian character. If you scratch a right or left winger you often find an anti government "individualist." They are not as different as you might imagine.

Don't forget about the year one storyline and The Dark Knight Returns costume. Plus you mention that he doesn't aim to kill, but he has in Grell's Longbow Hunters and Prometheus in the Cry For Justice storyline. I still thank you for producing these great articles.

I always wondered why Green Arrow ever bothered wearing that dinky mask. I mean it doesnt disguise him anymore than if he were wearing heavy eye shadow. Especially with the tell tale beard.

His greatest power is his opinion. He´s at his best when he is talking some sense into some real overpowered naive heroes.

The Smallville Green Arrow is perfect in every way except the costume. Well, and the goatee but you know, a younger Green Arrow so we can ignore that.

Would love for Justin Hartley to continue on with the role, providing he wanted to of course. Although I would equally enjoy an older interpretation of the character.
