"Merciful and just are the laws of Asgard, but woe to he who strays from the path of righteousness! Though hast willfully shed the blood of thine own brother, thunder god! ... Mighty Thor, god of thunder, thou art henceforth banished for all eternity!"

Who is HEIMDALL?
HEIMDALL is the Norse God of Vigilance, the Guardian of the Bifrost Bridge, the link of Asgard to Midgard. HEIMDALL is gifted with senses so acute that they border on the extrasensory. He is the brother of Sif.

HEIMDALL is a fictional character in the Marvel Comics universe, loosely based on the god HEIMDALLr of Norse mythology. He first appeared in a comic in Journey into Mystery #85 (October 1962) and was created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber and Jack Kirby.

In his first appearance, HEIMDALL accidentally releases Loki when he causes HEIMDALL to shed a tear using a leaf.
First appearance:

HEIMDALL is the brother of the warrior Sif. He is all-seeing and all-hearing, a guardian sentry of the rainbow bridge. He has stood guard for ages, defending the city's gates from any intruders, and is one of the most trusted servants of Odin.

HEIMDALL had a short-lived romance with the Enchantress. HEIMDALL and Amora drifted apart when Amora realized that his duty to Asgard was greater than his love for her.

Asgard is later struck by Ragnarok (a cycle of death and destruction for the Asgardians), which was caused by Loki. HEIMDALL perishes in battle defending his people.

After Thor ends the cycle of Ragnarok, Thor restores HEIMDALL, along with the other Asgardians, who were reborn on Earth in bodies of mortal beings. Thor locates HEIMDALL in New Orleans and restores him to his Asgardian form. Upon his return to Asgard, HEIMDALL uses his near-omniscience power to locate the scattered souls of the other Asgardians.

Outside of Thor comic books, HEIMDALL is not used much in other series. Here are different renditions of HEIMDALL throughout his comicbook existence:

LIVE APPEARANCE
HEIMDALL is played by Idris Elba in the live-action film, Thor.

POWERS & ABILITIES
Note: Due to the nature of comicbooks being an on-going tale, the character's powers along with his appearance, is in a constant state of flux.

HEIMDALL possesses all the typical superhuman attributes common go the Gods of Asgard.

Superhuman Strength: Like all members of his race, HEIMDALL is superhumanly strong. He is somewhat stronger than the average male Asgardian and is capable of lifting about 50 tons.

Superhuman Speed: HEIMDALL, despite his great size, can run and move at speeds superior to that of the finest human athlete.

Superhuman Stamina: HEIMDALL's musculature produces considerably less fatigue toxins during physical activity than the musculature of a human being. He can physically exert himself at peak capacity for about 24 hours before the build up of fatigue toxins in his blood begins to impair him.

Superhumanly Dense Tissue: The tissues of HEIMDALL's body have about 3 times the density of the bodily tissues of a human being. This contributes, somewhat, to HEIMDALL's superhuman strength and weight.

Superhuman Durability: HEIMDALL's body is much harder and more resistant to physical injury than the body of a human being.

Superhuman Agility: HEIMDALL's agility, balance, and bodily coordination are all enhanced to levels that are beyond the natural physical limits of even the finest human athlete.

Superhuman Reflexes: HEIMDALL's reflexes are similarly enhanced and are superior to those of the finest human athlete.

Extended Longevity: HEIMDALL, like all Asgardians, ages at a rate that is considerably slower than an ordinary human. However, the aging process of the Asgardians isn't completely halted as it is with some other of Earth's god pantheons.

Regenerative Healing Factor: Despite his resistance to injury, HEIMDALL can sustain physical injury if exposed to a sufficiently powerful force or weapon. However, if injured, his godly life force and metabolism enables him to rapidly regenerate damaged tissue much faster and more extensively than a normal human.

Superhumanly Acute Senses: HEIMDALL's post as Sentry of Asgard is due in large part to his extraordinarily acute senses. HEIMDALL's sight, hearing, and smell are enhanced to the point that they almost qualify as extrasensory. HEIMDALL is able to detect the approach of most beings within hundreds of miles. HEIMDALL is able to willingly focus his senses on certain sensory information and selectively block the rest of it from his consciousness.

AbilitiesHEIMDALL's duty requires him to be one of Asgard's most formidable armed and unarmed combatants. He is particularly skilled with bladed weaponry.

This is the 53rd article in my Know Your CBM Character series. Any requests and suggestions for an article for this series write it down in the comment section BELOW.

Now for the supergeeks, identify who this character is and what is his connection to HEIMDALL:

Message to the CBM community:To those who are making requests, check first [here] because I might have done an article on the character already. If I have not please be patient, I will get on it as soon as possible (but consider the fact that I spend hours writing one of these articles). Try to limit your request to characters that already have been adapted to live media, so that the feature will at least be relevant to the site – Comic Book Movie(though I include TV characters). Characters in Manga or Anime’, I am not particularly familiar of, I am not discounting these characters but it will probably take some time before I write a feature on them because I have to read up on these characters. Thank you for reading these articles! If there are errors on the feature article above, blame it on my age, humanity and ignorance. Just be sure to check the comment section for the corrections, any error I made will surely be pointed out and corrected by much bigger geeks (because there will always be a bigger geek out there). -This has been PollMaster inviting you to the geekside. MABUHAY CBM and Godspeed!

SirPrize@ I beg to differ, Idris Elba was everything that Kenneth Brannagh said he would be. He mastered the role which makes me believe that he understood the character very well. He was commanding and a presence that should be feared. My only problem with Thor is that Heimdall wasn't in it more.

He played an excellent Heimdal. He could pull Bishop off too. Great as always Pollmaster. Hopefully you stay in the Asgardian realm and do Balder the Brave next.
