Who is DARWIN?
DARWIN is a mutant named Armando Muñoz. His first appearance was in X-Men: Deadly Genesis #2. Writer Ed Brubaker and artist Pete Woods created DARWIN.
First Appearance

DARWIN's powers are self-protection and continuous circumstantial evolution. As a young boy, he was found by some scientists who experimented on him. Later he was taken in by Moira MacTaggert and recruited as one of her "fosters." He was part of the first rescue team, to go after the captured X-Men from Krakoa. The rescue was a disaster many of DARWIN's teammates were killed, he absorbed their powers and converted himself into energy to fuse with another teammate named Vulcan.
DARWIN and Vulcan

The Krakoa incident was sent under wraps but later it would see the light of day. Beast then found out that DARWIN was still in fact alive. Beast has determined that DARWIN is now a being of pure energy. While not conscious, he was shown to still have brain activity and was still alive, located at the X-Mansion. DARWIN was later separated from Vulcan with a help from a powerful telepath, once apart DARWIN's abilities caused him to develop a physical form once more.

Once fully restored, he went in a mission with Professor X to stop his former teammate, Vulcan from destroying the Shi'ar Empire. When the Professor was captured by agents of the Shi'ar, DARWIN secretly jumped on the ship with intent to rescue Professor X.

During the World War Hulk storyline, the Hulk was after Professor X, this leads to a clash with the X-Men. DARWIN was one of the mutants protecting the professor, his powers evolved into something that would siphon gamma radiation. Unfortunately, there was just too much in Hulk, which prompted DARWIN to have a new evolution and that is to teleportation to help him get away from Hulk.

DARWIN would later be recruited by Siryn for X-Factor, she tells him that with X-Factor, he will not have to deal with the massive threats the X-Men routinely deal with. Ironically, his first adventure with X-Factor finds him accidentally crushed by a Sentinel that had been blasted out of the sky by Siryn. Emerging unharmed from the debris, DARWIN cynically mocks her earlier speech about not having to worry about this sort of thing with X-Factor.

Therefore, wherever DARWIN is, whatever X-Team he is on, you know he will continue to fight the good fight and keep on evolving.

LIVE MEDIA APPEARANCE
EDI GATHEGI
In the movie X-Men: First Class, he demonstrated abilities such as growing gills when underwater and developing armor plating to withstand physical beatings. However, his powers could not adapt quickly or thoroughly enough to withstand an energy attack placed in his mouth by Sebastian Shaw, though we could presume that DARWIN might have evolve into another state that would have helped him survive this attack, and only time will tell before he can reconstitute himself.

POWERS & ABILITIES
Note: Due to the nature of comicbooks being an on-going tale, the character's powers along with his appearance, is in a constant state of flux.

Instantaneous Adaptation: powers of self-protection and continuous circumstantial evolution. DARWIN is able to adapt to any situation. His reactive mutation adjusts his capabilities to his environment. For example, his eyes would adapt to seeing in darkness, his lungs would adapt to poisoned air. He would become impervious to heat or smoke in a fire and he would grow gills when put underwater.

Message to the CBM community: To those who are making requests, check first [here] because I might have done an article on the character already. If I have not please be patient, I will get on it as soon as possible (but consider the fact that I spend hours writing one of these articles). Try to limit your request to characters that already have been adapted to live media, so that the feature will at least be relevant to the site – Comic Book Movie(though I include TV characters). Characters in Manga or Anime’, I am not particularly familiar of, I am not discounting these characters but it will probably take some time before I write a feature on them because I have to read up on these characters. Thank you for reading these articles! If there are errors on the feature article above, blame it on my age, humanity and ignorance. Just be sure to check the comment section for the corrections, any error I made will surely be pointed out and corrected by much bigger geeks (because there will always be a bigger geek out there). -This has been PollMaster inviting you to the geekside. I doubt he's dead, he turned into pure energy and will make a new body from that and will be rediscovered by Beast and The Professor just like in Deadly Genesis

Oh yeah and that girl is Sway(Suzanne Chan) she was one of the original four students found by Moira Mactaggart just like Darwin, Vulcan and Petra

For the Geek Cred, that is Sway, one of Darwin's team mates that died on Krakoa. Her mutant ability is to slow or stop the flow of time around her body.

'Bout time I beat someone to it ;P

EDIT: DAMN YOU MRANONYMOUS!!!

Slaine, lmao right!

I think he could easily return in the future installments on film.

So darwins downfall is it takes a second to realize what hes adapating to? Is that why the Energy that Shaw put in his mouth killed em, because he didn't have time to turn his insides or whole body for that matter into say Adamantium, or something strong enough to take the blast?

When you run out of live-action adapted characters to use, I'd love to see one on the greatest villain of all time... Mr. Sinister.

I don't think he died. If so that was a total waste of a perfectly good character. That's what characters like Kitty Pryde, Rictor, and Dazzler are for.

i had no idea why darwin was even in first class, out of all the mutants you could pick from why darwin.

then the way darwin was treated in first class,he might as well not been in it.

@mercwitamouf -I saw that shit, and I was mad for about 11 seconds. Then they "killed off the black guy"

@Talontd - I never thought about the other black person being a traitor... That was f(rick)ed up too!

@MovieTheaterLad- The Magneto minority shit don't count. In the US or Britain he can pass as a regular white guy... Now NAZI Germany or Poland on the other hand... Yeah

Darwin has been one of my very favorite characters created recently. Hated his sceen time in First Class was so short. Really liked that actor too.

if he returns in a sequel, making a new body from an energy form like the comics, I reckon thatd be when they give him his pasty pale skin; like the new body is slightly imperfect

Ryguy88
Ryguy88 - 6/10/2011, 5:28 PM
Marvel72, first you don't like that they picked a C list character to be in First Class, then you get upset over the quick death of said C list character, the very character you didn't want to be in the movie in the first place. Did you ever wonder that maybe the writers chose an unimportant character so that they could kill someone off with out disrupting future movies? There's no pleasing guys like you unless it's one of those movies where no actions have severe consequences e.i. Thor......I don't mean to continually rip on Thor, I liked it fine, I just like to use it as a comparable.

Gambit, his body can't survive everything, just like in the comics.
Jer3miah
Jer3miah - 6/10/2011, 5:30 PM
Racist movie... How taboo, I swear. They tried black people. Not to mention how the originators based him off Darwin, who, himself, said that if another evolution doesn't occur in 100 years, then his "theory" is invalid. What a load of bull...

When did it stop being a crime to be black?

(Washington, DC) - Blacks have been arrested nationwide on drug charges at higher rates than whites for nearly three decades, even though whites engage in drug related crimes that are higher than blacks, Human Rights Watch said in a report released in 2010. Using data obtained from the FBI, the report reveals the extent and persistence of racial disparities in US drug-law enforcement.
More than 80% of arrests were for drug possession, not sales. "Since blacks are more likely to be arrested than whites on drug charges, they are more likely to acquire the convictions that ultimately lead to higher rates of incarceration" - NICIC.gov ( National Institution of Corrections

Did anyone get the latest RIA (Racism in America) version? We were using 1.0 but we have upgraded to 2.0 following the last presidential election.
TChallaTchaka
TChallaTchaka - 6/10/2011, 11:12 PM
RIA 2.0

Specifications: ITS GREAT, ITS NEW, ITS ADAPTS EVEN BETTER THAN DARWIN! ;)

The new color-blind ideology does not, however, ignore race; it acknowledges race while ignoring racial hierarchy by taking racially coded styles and products and reducing these symbols to commodities or experiences which whites and racial minorities can purchase and share.
Embracing a post race, color-blind perspective provides whites ( and non-whites) typically the educated ones, with a degree of psychological comfort by allowing them to imagine that being white or black or brown has no bearing on an individuals or groups relative place in the socio-economic hierarchy

thewolfx - 6/11/2011, 12:02 AM
hmm lets see..

lets add a character who doesnt belong in the movie in the first place along with many others,

then lets make him the only one with the sole power of adapting to survive no matter what DIE!!!
to top it all off hes black

x-men fist ass was brilliant [frick]in brilliant!
