Comic Book History

Who is PARALLAX?
PARALLAX is a DC comics character that is the embodiment of fear, he is featured primarily in Green Lantern comic books. The PARALLAX identity was conceptualized by Ron Marz and Darryl Banks, and first appeared in Green Lantern #50. The entity concept was created by Geoff Johns and Ethan Van Sciver and established its sentience in Green Lantern: Rebirth #1. (2005)
First Appearance

Birth of PARALLAX

PARALLAX is a demonic parasitic entity old as time itself, being the embodiment of fear he travels from world to world and causing entire civilizations to destroy themselves out of paranoia.

PARALLAX was imprisoned by the Guardians of the Universe within the Central Power Battery on Oa. They used the green energy of willpower to overcome the yellow energy of fear generated by PARALLAX. The parasitic entity then laid dormant for billions of years. The dormant PARALLAX became known as the "yellow" impurity that gave the early lanterns a weakness to the color that emotion is attached to, fear.

PARALLAX presence will be known in modern times first as the insane Hal Jordan, considered as the greatest Green Lantern. His insanity was actually due to PARALLAX influencing Hal Jordan, and increasing his self-doubt and then fear.

Freed from the Oan Central Power Battery, PARALLAX went to jump from one host to another; he usually is separated from his host due to their amazing willpower. Here are a few of the other known hosts of PARALLAX-

The Guardian known as Ganthet

Another Earthling Green Lantern, Kyle Rayner

After an incident involving Hal Jordan, PARALLAX finds himself trapped and chained in an energy bubble in the planet called Ryut. A being dressed in cloak controls him, awaiting his command to take on a new host.

PARALLAX found a new host in the superhero known as the Flash

Later, the renegade guardian, Krona, captured PARALLAX and the other embodiments of the emotional spectrum.

He placed PARALLAX once again inside the Green Lantern's Central Power Battery, introducing once more the yellow impurity to the Green Lantern's rings, so that he could control the members of the Green Lantern Corps.

It was only thru the effort of the Earth Lanterns (especially Guy Gardner), wearing other colored rings that they were able to remove PARALLAX from the Green Lantern Central Power Battery.

To those who are making requests, check first [here] because I might have done an article on the character already. If I have not, please be patient, I will get on it as soon as possible (but consider the fact that I spend hours writing one of these articles). Try to limit your request to characters that already have been adapted to live media, so that the feature will at least be relevant to the site – Comic Book Movie(though I include TV characters). Characters in Manga or Anime’, I am not particularly familiar of, I am not discounting these characters but it will probably take some time before I write a feature on them because I have to read up on these characters. Thank you for reading these articles! If there are errors on the feature article above, blame it on my age, humanity and ignorance. Just be sure to check the comment section for the corrections, any error I made will surely be pointed out and corrected by much bigger geeks (because there will always be a bigger geek out there). -This has been PollMaster inviting you to the geekside. God they spun that make-it-up-as-you-go crap from Hal going mad and calling himself "Parallax" worse than the Venom and Carnage crap span out of the alien Spiderman suit!

Parallax was Hal, he went mad and he wasn't possessed, the rest of the crap came later to please the fanboys still crying over him. It was a great death scene and had the best use of the Oath ever as he summoned the darkness and the light while saying it as he used every bit of his power to save the Earth.

...wasted, they pulled a kindergarten plot and brought him back to life again and made a up a yellow custard Voldermont to explain away everything like the lies parents tell to kids to hide harsh truths so they can sleep at night!

Has anyone else suggested that parallax looked the way he did in the film because he was only possessing Krona?

Just a thought...

Anyone think they should turn Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) into Parallax in the 3rd movie.. and have Kyle Rayner be introduced.. to start a new trilogy?? This is only wishful thinking haha we might not even get a sequel =( ... Then Parallax could be the main villain against the Justice League. Insane Hal.

If they make a sequel, Which I'm SERIOUSLY doubting, they need to introduce Kyle Rayner, he IS the best Lantern, the ring is solemnly based on imagination, and he is an artist in the comics, no doubt in my mind he's the best.

@Gambit freak yes, Kyle is amazing. Although, John Stewart is also an architect, so he seems just as adept at construct building.

[frick] Kyle I almost quit reading comics when Hal turned evil. They did it to get newer readers interested and sell more comics. Funny thing is it never gave it much of a bump once Hal was truly gone. But when they brought Hal back Green Lantern and GL related comics stayed firmly at or near number one. Though once I did go off to the Marines I did stop collecting. Hard to collect and keep up with them when traveling the world. But once I got out I still did not start collecting again till Rebirth when they brought Hal back.

I hate villains who are the embodiment of some abstract concept. Always turns out to be too much like "Super heroes vs. God". Dumb Dumb Dumb! Galactus is cool because he's still a (fictional) living being. But Parallax, the Beyonder, Anti-Monitor, Death...blah blah blah. They're all way too far fetched for me. That's when I start tuning out.

Man Hal has more willpower then John Stewart and Kyle Rayner put together. [frick] imagination when your weapon becomes stronger then everyone elses weapon when you pour more willpower into it. And that is why Hal Jordan is the best.
