The film and TV rights of the colorful police detective, Dick Tracy, is being disputed upon by Warren Beatty and the Tribune Company.
Beatty has the film rights which he got two decades ago, in which he made a film based back in 1990, there's not much happening with the character since then. Tribune in 2006 served Beatty a notice that they were reclaiming the rights unless a subsequent film goes into production by 2008 November. To assert his right, Warren Beatty declared that he had a started filming a TV special back on Nov. 8 of 2008. The Tribune Company claims that there were no evidence of such project.
Apparently Mr. Beatty produced an evidence to A Delaware bankruptcy judge, Judge Kevin Carey, who ruled that Beatty may have a case and he can continue in suing for the right of 'Dick Tracy'.
The Tribune Company is preparing their own lawsuit against Mr. Beatty.

Whatever happens with the lawsuit, I think it's high time Dick Tracy goes back to the consciousness of the movie going public.
