Stan Lee's thoughts on the Spider-man Reboot

Spidey creator Stan Lee speaks... and we ought to listen!

Lots of you are asking what I think of the Spidey movie reboot. I think it's one of the reasons Marvel is so great. Here's why--

Marvel knows what makes a great Spidey film. If something isn't right, they're courageous enuff to dump it and start over. That takes guts

And I'll promise you this-- when the movie DOES get made, it'll have been worth the wait-- or my name isn't Generalissimo Lee! Excelsior!

I'll take your word Stan... I'll take your word.

-ACCESS out. Godspeed and MABUHAY!!!

Thanks for the news access. If there's anyone's opinion on this whole incident that should be heeded, it's Stan the man. Glad to see that he's so optimistic.

@LEEE Dude, they weren't doing Lizard Kraven anyway Vulture was confirmed. I was pissed about them not using that story line for 4 too, and so disgusted with Raimi and the cast i can't say I'm sad to see them all go. The only thing I'm leery of is if the whole new franchise gets bogged down in High School.

It couldn’t be any worse than Spiderman 3. At least this opens the door to Spidey getting worked into the greater Marvel Film U.

IMO the reboot is a great thing. I'm all for it. Here' hoping that the next one to play parker has the brains to build his own web shooters.

Have you read it: he said Marvel, not sony. At least does it mean that marvel studios and sony will collaborate to make the movie?

Stan is a true, blue company man. He wont damn a project with Marvel's name on it. When has he ever?

everyone jumps the gun on this. True its one of his works and he can't say anything bad about it, but he is always hopeful for something better. I want something better too. like a spider-man that isnt purely cgi. you can use practical effects for spider-man. also hopefully the costume will look better. the raimi spider-man had those weblines that popped out and looked weird. also with this reboot, we may see a proper black suit, like in the comics. 100% with MPP, he's a good guy here, and smart

I think that this could work if the movie has the same sort of feel that Lee & Ditko's original run did and it'll be great to have a supporting cast of characters like Flash and Liz Allen. However, I really hope it doesnt end up too much like Ultimate Spider-Man because I really dont want to see the Ultimate versions of characters like Green Goblin!

Still, the best part of this news is the fact they might be able to correct some of Raimi's (minor) mistakes..!
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 1/12/2010, 7:44 AM
Oh, and although the thought of including Spider-Man in other Marvel movies is great, I really dont want to see a teenage Spider-Man hanging around with The Avengers in a similar style to The Ultimates where they just look at him as some stupid kid!

I would have preferred a reboot with a Peter in his twenties or something with a job similar to the character in JMS' run where he's a science teacher in his old school!

I just wonder who they'll use as the villain/s - I cant imagine they'd use Doc Ock or Green Goblin again so I wouldnt be suprised to see Electro or someone!! There are a lot of pros and cons to this news...

No, its still Sony, still no tie in with the Marvel movies coming out. I'm pissed off I have to say, I really liked Raimi's movies. I wouldn't even mind a change in cast and director but why do the have to reboot it back to the teeny years? We have seen it all not 10 [frick]ing years ago! Just continue the story on from Spider Man 3 and retcon anything that was messed up in that movie..a new cast and director means that will be much easier to get away with. Anyway, until further notice, [frick] this reboot.

And Stan Lee would say Mass. If your looking for unbiased opinion he is not the man to go to. Hell will freeze over before he says anything negative about a property even loosely associated with him. Nuff said.

JoshWilding - 1/12/2010, 8:25 AM
ROR: Exactly! The only good thing about this is that we might get a bigger supporting cast of characters but who gives a [frick] about that when it would've been better to carry on the movies with the Peter Parker we all read in Amazing Spider-Man each week! An adult Spider-Man would be better than setting this in high school...depending on what tone they go with for the movie, I think theres a big chance it just wont be any good - here's hoping they change their minds in the next year or so!!

I too liked Raimi's movies even if I wasnt happy with some minor things I really wanted to give him another chance with Spider-Man 4 because after making two brilliant Spider-Man movies I really think he could've done an excellent job with the next one!

CaptainAmerica - 1/12/2010, 8:38 AM
ok heres the thing, Sony still has the film rights. So unless THEY say so, there wont be any Spider-Man in future Marvel Films. Just because it says they are working with Marvel doesnt mean anything, Fox also worked with Marvel with the X-Men films and Fantastic Four films.

Ok I'm not saying that Stan isn't the Man, but his whole Holier than Thou attitude is really starting to hit that nerve. I know you created a great franchise and you insist on a cameo in every Marvel movie (not bad ones, but cmon), but there's a point you need to step off a soap-box. Then again, he does have great ideas and him saying this is a little reassuring.

***steps off his own soap box :D***
let the flogging of rabbit commence.

I know a couple of people have comented on this already but I'm all for the reboot for 3 reasons.

1. The story is so out of whack at this point that I can honestly say I was not looking forward to another sh*t movie. ((Maybe their actually dropping the current one in favor of one that will make more sense and actually appeal to our tastes?)) More and more of us are starting to make and impact on Hollywood as the actors themselves, studio peeps and directors are starting to listen to us.

2. The casting from the beginning was so off I almost gagged. Granted Toby pulled it off reasonably well but after the emo trip I vowed never again. And I wont even get started on MJ. We all know what's wrong there.

3.What if... Just what if Sony and Marvel HAVE reached an agreement. Sony has seen what Marvel is capable of with their properties! What would Sony have to loose by collaborating with Marvel at this point? If they work together Sony probably is going to the distribution or some other cash point and letting Marvel fix what the f*cked up to begin with?

Pure hypothesis on my end but can you tell me that this doesn't seem plausible?

Logan out...

I know FOXFAN.......Marvel Super Hero Squad is a lot of fun to watch. My son loves it and he is ten, its good that the kids have something to watch....

BTW Ms Marvel is hot in it.....Hehe

darkitect - good points, it does indeed seem plausible that sony might look at iron man and say, "well i'll be. marvel DOES know a little bit about what makes comic stuff work . . ."

here's hoping sony gets the manure off their glasses & sees what's happening
