Potential Spider-Man Director Marc Webb is an 'Ultimate' Fan

Not only does he follow Spidey comics, but he thinks Joseph Gordon-Levitt could successfully pull off the role.

Update! Gordon-Levitt has a few words of his own to share with fans. . .

MTV recently spoke with Marc Webb at the Golden Globe Awards and posed the question if he was indeed a Spidey fan. "Of course," he commented. "Stan Lee, big fan ... love the 'Ultimate [Spider-Man]' stuff. How could you not be a fan of Peter Parker and Spider-Man?."

When asked if his 500 Days of Summer Star star would will make a good Spider-man, Webb said:

"Joseph Gordon-Levitt would make a good Meryl Streep — he can do anything," with a laugh.

All he had to add when asked if we should expect an announcement regarding his next project any time was, "I hope so!"

Update: MTV later caught up with actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt to find out if there was a real connection between him and the new Spider-Man film.

"You and your movie gossip," he laughed. "It's a fun conversation to have with you...It's like a game of chess."

Though he didn't have anything else to add regarding news of the film, Gordon-Levitt expressed how grateful he was just to hear rumors tying him to the project:

"I'm honored and flattered that you would ask me that," he smiled.

So there you have it are you convinced that this is the Guy you want to direct then next spider-man movie? Are you interested in an Ultimate version for the film? And is Joseph Gordon-Levitt perfect for Peter Parker?

For me right now as long as there are movements on the Spidey-front I'm happy. Not jumping for joy happy but still happy.

-ACCESS out. Godspeed and MABUHAY!

Good find, it definitely seems like hes avoiding to answer if hes in talks with Sony or not. I wouldn't mind an ultimate spider-man at all.

My guess is we'll be getting an official word sometime around late February.

Sounds like he is in serious discussions. Just because he directed Gordon-Leavitt in his last movie doesn't mean he would be in the running for Spidey. The guy looks young but he is still too old for high school

I wouldn't mind the Ultimate aka High School Spidey for the first film or two, but by the third installment I definitely want Spidey to be out of High School and in Empire State University. I'm ready for a new take on Spidey, but I don't want an entire franchise based in high school; that would be my worst nightmare. Spidey does need to age at least into his early to mid twenties within the first four films, the reason being the triviality of high school is going to turn off a lot of older or old school marvel fans after a while. I want drama like Peter needing to help with Aunt May's medical care and his job at the Bugle and not who he's taking to homecoming or Green Goblin pumpkin bombing the shit out of the senior prom.

Eh, I'd rather they stick closer to the 616 Spidey, but I wouldn't be that angry if they went for a more Ultimate angle.

And JGL is too old for the reboot.

I hope they get Matt Vaughn to direct though, he's a better choice than Webb IMO.

UM, isn't this why SPIDER-MAN 3 sucked because of using the Ultimate sh1t????

Oh my,,,

TYLER @ I tried to tell ya man!!

So we could have [frick]ing Cobra [frick]ing Commander as Peter Parker, yeah that will work, the guy ain't even a good actor...

One of the bad things in JOE lol! : P

I know im against the Reboot, but for all you that want it, this sounds bad!

Lee: This doesn't prove anything. This guy isn't even a confirmed director, and it's not even a guarantee that he'd use Ultimate stuff in the movie, if he directs.

JGL a bad actor? Yeah, okay...

He won't be. He is way too old. Sony won't cast a 28 year-old as a high-school teen.
LEEE777
LEEE777 - 1/18/2010, 12:30 AM
Yeah @ TYLER @ We can trust SONY!! ; )

Maybe the HIGH SCHOOL sh1T will be just flashbacks and we can get on with the continuation of SPIDER-MAN, now that would be the [frick]ing best for this franchise!!

616 all the way!!!

Lee: I trust Sony enough to know that they won't cast a 28 year old as the lead of a franchise which they want to take back to high school.

And they won't be flashbacks. The most likely use of flashbacks would be the origin. But Peter's going to be in high school, whether you, me, or anyone likes it or not.

And how did they use Ultimate Spider-Man as a basis for SM 3? Besides with Brock?

As much as I hate the thought of Brittany Murphy not being Harley Quinn, it has become obviously impossible. I love Zooey Deschanel but can I recommend Kathryn Morris for the role of Harley. She's always been my second choice.

Untill this guy is confirmed to direct, I'll be holding my bets on Matthew Vaughan, though I wouldn't mind Webb, as of what I've heard the Summer movie thing is good and he is a Ultimate fan, which is kind of the direction I think Sony will be taking it in, so I'm cool with it.

But Joseph is too old to play Peter Parker, just my opinion + I want him for the Joker(if Warner decides to recast him), and I just couldn't see the same guy, who played Joker, play the part of Peter Parker. It just wouldn't seem right.

DON'T GIVE US THAT ULTIMATE CRAP, ANYONE THAT WOULD GIVE A DIRECTOR THE POWER TO MAKE ANOTHER SPIDERMAN MOVIE INFLUENCED BY THE ULTIMATE SERIES IS JUST GOING TO PUT SPIDERMAN FRANCHISE DEEPER INTO THE CRAPPER.

SPIDERMAN 3 ALL OVER AGAIN...

IF YOU DO START OVER AGAIN, ID LIKE TO SEE THESE ACTORS PLAY THESE PARTS-
MJ - MARY ELIZEBETH WINSTEAD

SHE'S HOT, AND SHE LOOKS MORE LIKE MARY JANE THAN DUNST

PETER PARKER - TOBEY MAGUIRE

NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH HIM, JUST THE PETER TURN BAD AND THE STUPID EVIL DANCE WAS JUST A DUMB THING TO MAKE HIM DO

Uh oh...he's a fan of Ultimate Spider-Man? Well, that proves that he's the wrong guy for the job because there is no way in hell that I want to see this movie based off the Ultimate Spider-Man universe - it should be based off of Stan Lee and Steve Ditko's early run of Peter in high school - that is the feel this movie should have!! God, if he followed the Ultimate stuff, that might even result in crap like the monster Green Goblin..! ;(

i would love to see Levitt as Peter Parker or as the replacement for Heath in the new Batman movie. Webb is right, the dude can play any role. he is the best young actor working.

@josh Just imagine how bad ass and scary Green Goblin would be though, i think a darker and more adult Spider-man is the way to go.

They need to keep this a grounded in reality while maintaining the illusion of the fansatic.

@access Levitt is great, but I doubt Nolan would use an obviously younger actor to portray the same person.

I'll say it time and again there's no need for a new rendition of the Joker, use what footage and sound bites they have, and use a double for any background shots or scenes that don't focus on the face(i.e. The Crow).

Though next Batman film will likely focus on a different villain, the only reoccurring villain should be Scarecrow - my bets are on Black Mask, and/or Tala Al Ghoul.

comicb00kguy
comicb00kguy - 1/18/2010, 7:28 AM
If I haven't said it before: I think the best way to do Spider-Man is to take the best elements from the classic and the Ultimate universes. I don't want to see a purely Ultimate Spidey.

That said, if Marc Webb is indeed a fan of the comics, I'd think he could make a reasonable choice for directing the next film. At least he's got some respect and love for the source material. I think that is abaolutely mandatory for anyone booked to direct a comic book movie. If you don't love the source material and the characters, stay the f away from movies about them.

As for this Levitt guy, a nearly 30 year old Spidey is not the way to go. He'd be another Maguire. I thought this was about taking things in new directions. I'd like to see him as a teenager for one, maybe two films, then shown as a college-age guy in his 20's. This would be a more logical 'evolution' of the character as he matures into adulthood.

Oh, and if you think ultimate monster Green Goblin dumb, what about Raimi's "mighty morphin Goblin ranger"? Seriously Gobby looked like he belonged in an old godzilla film.
