A fascinating character, often cited as the smartest man in the Marvel Universe. He is a Batman of Villainy, having pretty much a plan for everything, every outcome, every contingency. He has become a highlighted character. If, as fans, there was ever a villain who one could aspire too many would say Doctor Doom. The ideas he represents as a character. The Power he has, the intelligence he harnesses, the stature of his societal position is peak of the mountain.

Doctor Doom is an amazing character who fans have adored since his creation in the 1960's. Many of his stories often center around two aspects of his character. First: His hatred of Reed Richards. Second: His infatuation with his mother. It's this second topic I want to talk about, but we need a little bit of a build up, a reminder of the good Doctor's history.

What we know of Doom's early childhood, Victor Von Doom was born in a gypsies camp in Latveria, Born to Cynthia and Werner Von Doom, he had a first love in the arms of a young Latverian woman, Valeria.

Doom himself cites a awakening to existence it self since he was in his mother's womb. An event that, as stated by Doom " Touched open my mind too clearly and too early." It was a haunting event, only matched by his most explosive failure.

His most haunting failure, the destruction of his beauty. The even was produced during an incident as he attempted to build a device allowing him to travel various planes of existence. His goal was to rescue his own Mother from the bounds of Mephisto's servitude.

Postulated in the comic book series "Books of Doom" he eventually did gain acceptance and had been loved by the young Latverian woman who is widely considered Doom's first Love. Tragedy and a desire to free his homeland pulled him from a happy life with Valeria to a tragedy ridden life that fits the works of classic horror novels and films.

But Many times he has gone back to the tragedy that his life is bread from. The Death and damnation of his Mother. He knew as a child he was more intelligent. He knew he was better than anyone he faced. He is a man who could no doubt be suffering from a God Complex. With his lifestyle it's hard to imagine why not. He's suffered hell and created from nothing a thriving nation that is forced to Worshipful him. His country has several set days of the year that is set to celebrate Doom.

Simply to say, he's gained an ego, a huge ego. One could postulate why he has to bother with his Mother? To a man of his intelligence it would seem fitting that Doom would be closer to the opinion of 'She made her bed. She should suffer in it.' But maybe there's a new side. His father, like his Mother died before he grew into an age of responsibility.

Doom had exhausted many resourced to save his mother. He himself had used the Aid of Mephisto to save his home and had since yearly fought Mephisto for his Mother's freedom.

Eventually the Criminal Mastermind had succeeded in freeing his mother, with the assistance of Sorcerer Supreme, Dr. Stephen Strange. The event left a son scorned from the love of his mother, a price he was bitterly willing to pay.

This all culminates to a Theory I have about Doctor Doom...

Doom is a egotistical mad man. He has a severe God complex giving him delusions of grandeur and the idea of followers. While he has been around the Marvel dating pool, with such romances as Scarlet Witch and Valeria. I find that the character has had a one true love of what many people called a disturbing nature. He has such a large ego that it's plain to see that he has a God Complex it does make finding love hard, who could possibly measure up to Doom's standards.

From the looks of things, Doom certainly seems to suffer from an Ego Induced Oedipus Complex. For who should be worth of "God's" Love then the Woman who gave him life. A disturbing Idea, Understandably. But It does culminate to a darker truth of Doom's Love for his mother, reaching very unhealthy standards.

To see Doom having Romantic love for his mother really puts the idea that Doom is a broken individual. He has literally gone through hell for his mother.

It could be an affect of his Mother's early witchcraft that affected Doom. It could be his traumatic childhood. But there is one thing that is plane to see. Doom suffers from a deep sexual attraction and true physical love for his mother. An effect to his psyche that makes him a prototype Bond Villain.

Whether that becomes something we as comic book fans accept is an entirely different issue. Sure it's a disturbing Idea, but it's a strongly supportive theory. Comic Book Canon has done much to show this idea without blatantly stating such an insane theory. But this is a long and well thought out and theory.

Thank you all for reading.

Damn right I would go to hell for my mother.

Heck, I would go to hell for my dog too.

Then again, I don't believe in hell...

That's a disturbing yet brilliant theory on Doom. It'll be interesting if they apply this theory in a film adaption of the Fantastic Four.
