According to Deadline, McDonough is in talks to play the Howling Commando's hardman, Dum Dum Dugan....

Add Neal McDonough to the list of cast for Captain America: The First Avenger, the Joe Johnston-directed film that will star Chris Evans. McDonough is in talks to play Dum Dum Dugan. Marvel Studios was playing dum on it.

Nice pun! McDonough will be best known to CBM fans as Bison in the God awful Street Fighter: Legend Of Chun Li, but he's actually a very good actor. I'm sure not many of us would have picked him for the role of Dum Dum,(Ted Levine and Sam Elliot were big fan favorites) but I think he could do it justice.

For anyone not up to speed on the character, here is some background..

Dugan was born in Boston, Massachusetts. During World War II, while working as a circus strongman, Dugan helps Nick Fury and Sam "Happy" Sawyer escape the Nazis during a mission recounted in issue 34. Dugan later joins the British Army, and when Sawyer is charged with creating Fury's First Attack Squad, also known as the Howling Commandos, Sawyer invites Dugan to become second in command. His exceptional strength saves the day in several of his adventures in the Sgt. Fury comic books. Later on in life he is placed in charge of internal security on the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. He is a corporal.
Dum Dum Dugan is placed in charge of a SHIELD Unit coined The Godzilla Squad, charged with the task of tracking and stopping the radioactive kaiju. Over the twenty-four issue series, Dugan goes from loathing the creature's destructive tendencies to accepting the beast's existence after Godzilla saves him on numerous occasions. Dugan later recalls a long list of his greatest nightmares, one of which includes Godzilla.

Think we'l see Godzilla make a cameo?:)

Ohhh. Awesome find Ror. I can't see him as Dugan though. I always thought that Tommy lee Jones would be Dugan. And be the way, I think IESB is referring to Deadline.

Didn't think they'd be going after actors that old for the Commandos, but I guess he could work.

"That guy creeps me out"

Yes, he is good at playing creepy bad guys. You rarely see him as a good guy.

For all those out there, TOLDJA is Deadline. It is site owner Nikki Finke's signature line. Many of the other film sites don't like her tactics and won't site her directly if possible.

The guys a decent actor, he just looks weird. Add the Dum Dum mustache and he'd be creepy. Maybe this is what he needs to help us forget Walking Tall and Street Fighter.

Re: Nick Fury and Dum Dum and the Howling Commandos being alive during WWII and still not being ancient in the modern day.

Something happens to them. Like being bathed in the glow of the cosmic cube. Or something. Don't know about infinity formulae - prefer the "side effect" explanation myself. But whatever - it gives them long life (it's why Fury was tasked with overseeing SHIELD - experience - decades worth).

Another great find ROR! I would never have imagined McDonagh as Dum Dum but I think he's a pretty good fit for the role!

I wonder whether he'll be around during WWII or the modern day bookends that The First Avenger is supposed to have? I'm hoping for the latter!

There was a black guy in the commandos at some point, right? With the bugle? Have to look that up. So I guess they were already a unique non-segregated unit, right?

Very interesting choice! I like him...when the writing is good. He was awesome in Band of Brothers and Ravenous but not so much in Street Fighter. If the script is good, he will do just fine in the role.
