The Dark Tower Gets A Release Date

Can't wait!!! I'm not a book reader but i keep hearing good things about them, which is why i can't wait for the films :))

That's good.The villain of Eyes of the Dragon is one of the main antagonists of the Dark Tower series.The story and The Dark Tower take place in the same world, as some of the characters and events are referenced by Dark Tower characters.

The problem with that scenario is there is no way they can fit 7 novels worth of material into 3 films.

I actually think the backstory should be the movies as it is one story.For instance, if someone were to only watch the films, it would tell a complete story.Just adapt the Wizard and Glass and the comic book miniseries for the films.

well...actually the Dark Tower is the nexus of all realities. So in layman's terms, most of King's books are just taking place on different levels (realities) within the Tower. So Eyes of the Dragon doesn't really take place in the same world, its actually a different world, lol. But i know what you mean :)

I was waiting to see how long this would take. I remember a year ago talking about it. Good to know it's finally happening.

I just checked out the first part from my school library after it was finally returned! Hoping to check it out soon. I really like where Ron is going with this, this could very well be one of the most epic feats to occur on the big and small screens. Can't wait!!

That is so cool. I had no idea. So the Eyes of the Dragon is like The Hobbit and Dark Tower is Lord of the Rings? I'm so gonna read the whole series before this project comes to pass. Cheers for the heads up.

At first I was disappointed to hear that I have to wait until 2013 for TDK, but if they get to take their time to make an incredible product, then it'll be well worth it. In the meantime, I have so many other CBM's coming out before TDK to hold me down, it'll be here b4 I know it.

What could be more awesome is if the movies/tv shows are a hit, then hopefully they could adapt the graphic novels as a cartoon series of some kind, if you haven't read those, you're missing out, great stuff.

youre squandering the books on television and are too wrapped up in the comic additives.

I'm incredibly excited about this. The format (film-TV-film-TV-film) has the possibility to revolutionise the way we tell stories on screen; many books that were considered unfilmable may now become possible. I really hope it's a success.

I wonder why they're putting the Wizard & Glass stories between the second and third films, though? I think it's a bit much to ask casual audiences to pause the main story for a few months and watch only the flashbacks instead. I think it would be better if they presented the whole Gunslinger Born story as a SPIN-OFF prequel series rather than an a series to fill in the gaps between The Waste Lands and Wolves of the Calla. If the Gunslinger Born series is successful, they could follow it with The Long Road Home, Treachery, The Fall of Gilead and The Battle of Jericho Hill. Throw in a Sorcerer special episode, and maybe Sheemie's Tale as well. And we'll see about The Wind Through the Keyhole when it's published (some or all of it seemingly takes place between The Fall of Gilead and The Battle of Jericho Hill). Hard to say if they should use the young or the old Roland actor for The Little Sisters of Eluria, but I guess it's close enough that it doesn't matter too much, as long as that novella gets adapted too.

I wonder if the filmmakers are going to keep continuity with other sai King films? Will we see Donald Sutherland or James Cromwell returning as Father Callahan? Jamey Sheridan reprising as the man in black, Randall Flagg? Anthony Hopkins as Ted Brautigan? Or will The Dark Tower reboot all these? It would be cool if remakes of 'Salem's Lot, The Stand, Hearts in Atlantis and so on were created to tie in with the Dark Tower films. And especially my favourite tie-in, IT. Guillermo del Toro has expressed an interest in remaking IT, and Doug Jones as Pennywise with del Toro at the helm would be awesome in the original sense of the word. I would love to see his designs for Its various forms... and they could get the same actor to play Dandelo, too.

And how about adaptations of never-before-made Dark Tower-related books? Insomnia? Rose Madder? The Eyes of the Dragon? The Talisman and Black House? All to tie in with the Dark Tower films, using the same actors for the various crossovers? It could be earth-shattering. I just hope Ron Howard doesn't screw it up; he's an okay director, sure, but seriously? Why not someone like Frank Darabont? A real visionary? Not that I'm not wishing Howard the best of luck with this, but really, I'd prefer if he stepped down and let a more appropriate director take over.

Some clarification on how the DT novels relate to other SK novels...

The 7 DT novels can absolutly stand on their own without any of SK's other works, however as the original 7 DT books are the magnum opus of SK's work, he has come to realize over time that they have infiltrated his other works. In the beginning, the interrelation between his horror and fantasy novels was not related to the DT as it was a new and massive undertaking. As time progressed, SK was able to incorporate more of his earlier work into the DT either subtely or in major ways. Eyes of the Dragon is not a prequel to Roland's journey, however it does occur in the same world/universe as Roland and the actual DT. King Roland from EotD is not related to Roland Deschan, however it is the same Flagg - the same Flagg that also appears in the Stand. Roland does actually make mention of the events in EotD, as well as character cameos in the DT novels.

And for the record, the idea of a movie adaptation of this series makes me naueous.

this will be the best series i have ever seen if it is done correctly all i want to know is who could they cast as the main charecters such as eddie, roland, and flagg because their is no current acter that i think can take on a roll with such depth as these charecters need.
