Patrick Wilson Expresses Interest In Superman

Ah yes, another Superman rumor! We all knew this would happen. From Joe Manganiello to The Rock, this role has been keeping the rumor mill turning no doubt. Well, this doesn't exactly suggest that Wilson is in the running, but the actor has shown a lot of interest in Zack Snyder's upcoming reboot for The Man Of Steel. Speaking to Movieweb about his new film Morning Glory, he was asked if he thought Superman was a good fit for Snyder's usual style..

"Well, I think anything is a good fit with him. The thing about Zack is that the guy is the most detailed, focused director that I've worked with. He knows exactly the picture that he wants to paint. Whether it's your taste ... I mean you can find a hundred people that absolutely love Watchmen and then there are people who will say that it is too close to the comic. But whatever, its Zack! He just attacks each film and with every single frame he knows exactly the picture that he wants to paint. So I think its awesome and I think its awesome for the franchise. I loved Superman growing up. I was brought up really on the movies. I was not a comic guy so those movies just defined, especially Superman and Superman II, the super-hero genre for me. Christopher Reeve, you know? So its great to mix it up and I think it is a great move. I think it will just be an awesome spectacle and you know he'll find some great story to tell."

Wilson then reveals that he wanted a look at that closely guarded script, but not if he actually did get a gander or not..

"When I heard he signed on I called one of my agents and said that I hadn't talked to Zack or anything but that I just wanted to read it. I don't even care if I'm right for anything, I just want to know what he's doing."

Wilson was then asked if he could see himself possibly donning the cape..

"Oh man, who knows? I love seeing all the Jon Hamm comments and Jon is like, "What? I'm over forty, this is ridiculous". So I don't know? That is such a big thing, who knows? I remember when Watchmen came around I didn't think I was really age appropriate or right for that but then when I jumped into it I was able to make it work. So who, knows? I would be happy to do anything with Zack again."

Sounds like he's definitely interested to me. And he has worked with Snyder before, doing a great job as Nite Owl in Watchmen. Obviously this doesn't mean he IS being considered, but its nice to know that such a gifted actor is up to the challenge of playing Superman. Wilson might not seem like an obvious choice but I think he would do a great job.

For a while, I really wanted to see him as Captain America. Superman though? Sure, why not? He's perfect for Hank Pym though... :)

I like Pat Wilson a lot, and I'd love to see him in another cbm someday. But Superman he is not.

How about Brainiac? He's got that thing going, not Supes. It might be cool if he gets it though, especially with the enthusiasm he has.

Big fan of his, I think he could nail it. But I'd rather see him as Barry Allen. He's got the likable everyman thing down to a science, the friendly/amiable presence, can be funny, looks like Barry, and is a great actor overall. I wouldn't mind him as Superman, at all in fact, just would rather see him as Barry.

But so far, he's better than all the rumored names IMO.

While I don't see him as Superman I wouldn't mind him doing it, he could pull it off. In terms of acting he wipes the floor with all the rumored actors up to now, and he's just a very dedicated and likeable guy. But as some of you guys said, he would fit other characters better.

GUYS @ Just becoz he's interested in being in ZACK's SUPERMAN movie, don't mean he'd ever get the Superman part, hell he could play anything from BRAINIAC...METALLO...to ZOD!!!

It would be cool if he got a part in the picture, but no way is he Superman!

He'd make good JOR-EL or (flashback) PA KENT too!!!

He's a total fanboy, isn't he? He just wants to know what's in the script, like the rest of us. He's probably reading CBM.com, right now to see what people think of him as Supes. I think he'd be good but he'd be a better Hank Pym.

He doesn't so much look the part, but everything else is spot on. Hell Dan Dreiberg is basically a Clark Kent homage anyway. He does noble, strong, hero types in his sleep. But aside from that is a damn good character actor too. Check out some of his back catalogue.

well he is a great actor.
I don't think height matters that much honestly.I believe they should cast a Superman more based on acting skills, than their height.
someone that is 6'0 or 6'1 could easily be made to look taller.
For example, the two men to arguably play the best Batman, aren't even as tall as Batman. Michael Keaton is 5'9, and christian Bale is 6'0, Batman is 6'2.

Now this is a interesting choice!
He doesnt look much like Superman, but he has the presence needed for playing Clark. He just needs to make a chameleon like tranformation if he wants to play Superman. He would be great as Brainiac. Or maybe even Lex Luthor.

Henry Cavill and Daniel Cudmore are still my first choices as Superman.

On Never Not Funny last month, Jon Hamm said he auditioned for Superman Returns, and was told then that he was too old, so now he definitely would be.

He said he auditioned? Like screentested?
Man, we need to get the 411 on these screentests.
I wonder if Rouths done a test.
Someone needs to ask him.

Holy cow! I would have never in a million years thought of Patrick Wilson. He is an absolutely FANTASTIC actor and part of being such a great actor is the change in appearance. I'll say the same thing as I said about Padalecki; the acting and character are there, but the looks are not. But, both would be great in the right change of appearance.

Without a change in appearance, Patrick is PERFECT for Barry Allen. I am a HUGE Flash fan. @ Intruder; going old school! Nice! JSA movie all the way!

Dunno about screentests, all he said was he auditioned. It was a throwaway side conversation at the end of the show.

Yes, Willis is the wig standard bearer! Dude you only notice the bad ones. You realize how many balding guys wig up for movies? Jude Law hasn't appeared without a rug since frakking Talented Mr Ripley. And the Danny Glover thing? That's just silly.
